Disappointing to see Siggy miss that one. Hope we don't live to regret it, as going a goal up is always a huge boost for us. Really impressed with Tronstad so far - very composed on the ball.

When he's on form BBD has shown has a very capable striker at Championship level. He can hit the back of the net with decent accuracy, gets involved and runs at defenders. He isn't fast, but he isn't slow either. He's got good stamina and is a solid athlete. The problem, as noted many times, is that he's the definition of a confidence player. When he loses confidence he starts snatching shots, doesn't get himself as involved in play and hesitates to run at defenders. I think he begins to overthink things, which is a big problem for a striker. He's been out of form for a while now - he stopped scoring regularly for us at the end of last year, so it's been nearly a year since he was scoring on anything close to a regular basis. Any club that takes him on a six month loan in January would have to hope he starts hitting the back of the net within a few games, or they'll likely have six months of BB rather than BBD.

Rotherham hosted Ipswich tonight at the New York Stadium, playing a fixture that had been postponed on 20th October due to flooding from Storm Babet. The Millers started brightly and went ahead in just the 4th minute, but their lead didn't last long, with Ipswich equalising thanks to a stunning goal from Sam Morsy. Ipswich dominated the match from this point and eventually found a way to scrape ahead with a scrappy goal in the 87th minute. This looked like it would wrap up all three points for the Tractor Boys, but Rotherham weren't done yet. Another fantastic goal, this time from Christ Tiehi scoring his first goal for the club, drew the score level again in the 91st minute. That was enough to gain Rotherham a credible home point against high-flying Ipswich. It's a point which keeps Rotherham in 22nd, but eases them slightly closer to Huddersfield in 21st, with the gap now four points. Rotherham have picked up five points from the last twelve available. Ipswich meanwhile will be gutted to walk away with only a point, having gone ahead so late in the game. It's a second 2-2 away draw in a row for them, as they remain in 2nd place. They are now within three points of Leicester and eight clear of Leeds in 3rd.

If the rumours of the time are to be believed he would have gone to WBA and most likely played some PL football. It would have been really interesting to see how he would have adapted, and if he could have been effective at that level. Unfortunately we'll never know.

Absolutely. I was genuinely surprised a lot of our own fans thought it was a red. I had a look at the match thread on the Norwich forum and general concensus was that it was harsh as well.

It was a very composed finish. I was sitting at that end and the goalkeeper had done a decent job of narrowing the angle, meaning it had to be very precise placement. Szmodics put it away like it was no problem at all.

Hmmm... considering the Norwich player basically fell over Wharton's trailing leg it still seems harsh, as otherwise the tackle is impossible to make. If it's the rules then so be it, but a bit of nuance wouldn't go amiss in these situations.

Friday's match saw Leeds inflict only a second defeat in fifteen games on Leicester, and curiously both defeats have been 1-0 reversals at home, with Leicester's other defeat being against Hull back on 2nd September. It ended a run of nine straight wins for Leicester, whilst it was a fourth victory in five games for a Leeds side that are trying to gain ground on the top two after an inconsistent start to the season. They remain in 3rd for the time being, seven points behind Ipswich in 2nd. Leicester stay top of the division, eleven points ahead of Leeds despite this loss. Wayne Rooney’s Birmingham City™ were looking good against Ipswich at St.Andrews, 2-0 up after 51 minutes. However, Ipswich showed their usual resilience and refusal to lose, with substitute Marcus Harness scoring in the 79th and 89th minute to claw back the deficit and allow the Tractor Boys to escape with a well-earned point. Rooney is finally off the mark in terms of getting some points at his new club, but will be disappointed to have seen his side blow a two goal home lead. Birmingham fall to 15th in the table, having only picked up a single point from the first twelve available to Rooney. They were 6th when Eustace was sacked. Ipswich remain in 2nd and edge a point closer to Leicester, due to their defeat against Leeds. Ipswich are currently seven points ahead of Leeds in 3rd and four points behind Leicester in 1st, but do have a game in hand on both. After getting their first win of the season last week against Rotherham, normal service was resumed for Sheffield Wednesday as they failed to score and lost 1-0 against a Bristol City side currently without a manager, following the surprise sacking of Nigel Pearson. Their cause wasn’t helped by Barry Bannan getting himself sent off in the 32nd minute, and a 64th minute goal from Bristol City was enough to give them all three points. Bristol City climb to 11th, having lost their previous two games, whilst the Owls remain adrift at the bottom of the table, nine points from safety. Huddersfield and Watford played out a goalless draw at the John Smith's Stadium, and this was in fact the first 0-0 ever contested between these two sides. It's not a result that does either team much good, but whereas it stretches Watford's unbeaten run to five games, Huddersfield have now only won once in nine games. With that said, Huddersfield have taken a couple of recent hammerings, conceding eight in their last two matches, so a clean sheet will be welcome. They remain in 21st, five points clear of Rotherham in 22nd. Watford sit in 16th, still with only four wins in fifteen matches, but having gained a credible nine points from the last fifteen available. Millwall's poor form continued as they lost at the death against a revived Southampton side at the Den. A 93rd minute goal from substitute Ryan Fraser was enough to give the Saints all three points. Three wins from their last five matches has hauled Southampton into 4th place in the league, just a point behind Leeds in 3rd. Millwall meanwhile haven't won in five, only gaining three points from the last fifteen available. They are due to appoint England U20's boss Joe Edwards in a bid to reverse their ailing fortunes. He reportedly beat Nathan Jones to the post. Plymouth and Middlesbrough played out an entertaining 3-3 draw at Home Park. A topsy-turvy game saw Boro take the lead, only for Plymouth to score twice in four minutes to go in at half-time 2-1 ahead. Boro then copied Plymouth's feat as they also scored two goals within four minutes in the second half to go 3-2 ahead. A 77th minute equaliser from Plymouth's Morgan Whittaker ensured the teams would ultimately share the spoils. Plymouth move up to 19th, six points clear of Rotherham in 22nd. Boro's winning streak came to an end last week with a defeat, and they were unable to get back on track this week either, leaving them in 12th position. Two of the division's most out-of-form teams met at Dumpdale as Preston took on Coventry. It was Preston who would emerge victorious in the end, with a hard-fought 3-2 victory. It ended a dismal run of no win in eight games, and was enough to push them back up into 6th place. Coventry meanwhile suffered a fourth defeat in a row and sit in 20th, five points clear of the relegation zone but in absolutely dire form, with just a single point from the last fifteen available. 22nd and 23rd battled it out at the New York Stadium, as Rotherham hosted QPR. Both teams will likely be disappointed to have come away with only a point each, as the match ended 1-1, doing little to help either side. QPR had gone ahead on the 50th minute, but Rotherham equalised in the 70th minute to deny Marti Cifuentes a win in his first match as new QPR head coach. The result is somewhat of an improvement for QPR at least, as they ended a run of six straight defeats. Rotherham meanwhile have picked up four points from the last fifteen on offer. QPR remain in 23rd, six points behind Huddersfield in 21st, with Rotherham five points behind the Terriers. Rotherham do have a game in hand, which would bring them to within two points of Huddersfield if they were to win it. Considering they only have two wins in fourteen matches thus far, however, that's not something that should be considered likely to happen. The postponed match against Ipswich will be played at the New York Stadium on Tuesday. A stifled contest between Stoke and Cardiff at the bet365 ended in a 0-0 draw. Not much else to say about that - it was just Stoke's second draw of the season, and places them in 13th, having gained ten points from their last twelve. Cardiff have seven from the last nine available points, but Preston's win saw them fall out of the playoff spots and into 7th position. Another goalless draw, the third of the afternoon, was found at the Swansea.com stadium, as Swansea and Sunderland shared the points. With that said, Sunderland will wonder how they came away from this match with one point and no goals, having dominated throughout after Swansea's Charlie Patino was sent off in the 30th minute for picking up two yellow cards. Despite this domination, they could have faced an even worse fate had Jamal Lowe not contrived to miss a first half penalty. Sunderland had an impressive 25 shots, but crucially just 3 were on target. Nonetheless, the Swans' resolute defending ensured that they walked away with a point and sit in 14th position. Sunderland are 8th, having only won once in their last five matches. Despite a recent run of two straight wins, Hull were reigned in by a West Brom side full of confidence, as they dispatched the Tigers 3-1 at the Hawthorns to record a third successive win and ten points from the last twelve available. The result keeps WBA in 5th position, two points ahead of Cardiff in 7th and nine points behind Ipswich in 2nd place. Hull are 9th in the table, two points behind Preston in 6th. Sunday's game, a midday kickoff at Carrow Road, saw the indomitable Rovers inflict a 3-1 defeat on the Canaries. We were two goals ahead inside fifteen minutes, with Dolan and Szmodics excellently finishing off wonderful attacking moves that exposed a woeful Norwich backline. The Norwich fans, frustrated by their side's recent displays, vociferously booed their side multiple times during the first half, rotating between chants of "we're special, we lose all the time", "you're getting sacked in the morning", "we want Wagner out", "sack the board", "we want Webber out" and "David Wagner, get out of our club". Rovers added a third just four minutes after the restart, only adding to the toxic mood within the stadium. An extremely questionable red card for Scott Wharton in the 54th minute changed the complexion of the game, forcing Rovers to fall back and regroup. It still took Norwich until the 92nd minute to score against the determined ten men of Rovers, however, which was far too late. Another cacophony of boos rang out around Carrow Road from the remaining home fans in attendence as the final whistle was blown. A fourth win in five games for the mighty Rovers sees us move up to 10th position, three points outside of the playoff places. We play Preston at Ewood on Friday, and thanks to Preston's poor goal difference of -2, a win would temporarily see Rovers jump into 6th place. For Norwich, a fourth successive defeat and a run of six games without a win sees them drop further to 17th in the table, with the worst defensive record in the division standing at 30 goals conceded. In comparison, QPR and Huddersfield, the league's next worst defences, have conceded 27. One imagines Wagner's time at Norwich may be drawing to a close, with the fans having completely turned on him.

I did hear a couple of Norwich fans around us say that Wagner is a symptom rather than the root cause of the problem. With that said, majority opinion is clearly that he needs to go, as the 'sacked in the morning' chants began after the first goal - and I believe they were started by the Norwich fans rather than ours.

Four very poor teams down there battling it out for the relegation places this season. Although Luton are arguably the only team putting up much of a fight so far.

Also sounded to me like Norwich fans were also booing Duffy at the ground, but it was hard to tell. Could definitely hear our lot giving him stick. Norwich fans may have been joining in considering the mutinous mood.

Just seen the Wharton red on the Sky Sports highlights and still not convinced. He pokes the ball away first and the Norwich player goes over his trailing leg afterwards. Is that a foul?

I thought Tronstad overall did fine in his role. Initially he started further back, but he soon shifted a bit further forward as we realised Norwich did not pose a significant attacking threat. Not sure if it was JDT who made that call or if the players just felt comfortable enough to do so on their own. The vast majority of their chances in the first half came through self-inflicted mistakes on our end as opposed to anything they did. Second half was understandably back to sitting deeper as we fell back to defend the lead with ten men.

Thoughts on the coach home... Really happy with the result, obviously. Could hardly believe it when we were 2-0 up after 15 minutes. Norwich fans were enraged after the second goal and spent the rest of the game chanting against the manager/board, as well as booing their own players. I'm sure that helped. Funny to hear Duffy booed by Rovers' fans every time he received the ball. Well deserved. Norwich utterly shocking defensively, no wonder they've conceded so many. With a proper striker on the pitch we could have scored five or six easily. Felt they could also have scored two or three with how open our defence was at times, but they had zero presence up front and repeatedly made poor decisions in the final third. Did not enjoy our attempts to pass it out from the back. Lost count of how many times we played ourselves into trouble doing this. A better team would have punished us. Wahlsted looked dodgy throughout to me. Didn't inspire confidence. Hill was superb. Moran busy throughout. Szmodics a constant menace. Dolan made life difficult for them, just as he did last year. The situation leading to the sending off was borne from complacency, presumably due to being 3-0 up, but I wasn't convinced from where I was that it was a foul or a red. Wharton looked like he got the ball first to me, but I haven't seen a replay so could be wrong. Regardless, the sending off changed the game. For the first ten minutes after the sending off it was like our entire defence had been red carded, as Norwich were suddenly all over us. Fortunately they weren't able to score during that period and we were able to settle down after that and see the game out professionally. Overall another lovely trip to Carrow Road. If only we could play them there every week.

I'll be there, hoping for a repeat of last year's performance at Carrow Road.

Note that Leeds are also the only team so far to have beaten Ipswich in 2nd, so they clearly have something about them. Just a consistency issue, although they've won four of their last five and are rapidly climbing the table. Leicester will go up comfortably, but if Ipswich's form starts to tail off it'll be Leeds who are snapping at their heels.

Thanks again, to be honest it's mainly just summarising/analysing the data and stats from the BBC pages for the league table, the games themselves and every so often digging back through the actual team pages to see results through the last month or two. Nothing too strenuous - every so often I need to head outside of the BBC to wikipedia or google, but the majority is all on the BBC somewhere. Sadly no, but in theory it would be possible to train an AI to do something like this. You'd just need to feed the results in based on specific team names (that match with the names given on the BBC web pages) and then set some rules for how to summarise the data. For example, check and confirm recent form, goals scored in the last five matches, goal difference, and so on. It would probably be a little less spontaneous and personal, but you could definitely build something like that.

This week's round of Championship fixtures spanned from Saturday to Monday, so let's see how the competition's teams fared. After celebrating Huddersfield's first win under his stewardship last Saturday, Darren Moore has now watched his side ship four goals in two consecutive matches, as they went down 4-1 to Leeds at Elland Road. This Yorkshire derby was a one-sided affair with all of Leeds' goals coming in the first half. Huddersfield's consolation goal in the 70th minute did little beyond slightly ease their battered goal difference, which has nosedived to -13, placing them alongside the bottom three teams in terms of being in double negative figures. The lowest GD above 21st is -3. Leeds bounced back from a loss in midweek, but remain a whopping 14 points behind top of the table Leicester and 9 points behind second placed Ipswich - which could become 12 points if Ipswich win their game in hand. Nonetheless, outside of the top two, Leeds have the best GD in the division with +9. Southampton's upturn in form continued at the expense of Wayne Rooney's Birmingham City™ as the Saints recorded a 3-1 home win to lift them into 4th place in the league. It should be noted however that Birmingham had a blatant penalty turned down and one of Southampton's goals was offside - so they can feel genuinely aggrieved by sub-standard officiating. Or what would more accurately be described as just another day at the office for Championship officials. Despite Leeds and Southampton both having rocky starts, both now sit in the top four, with Ipswich being the only team standing between the relegated clubs and Championship dominance. Rovers' old boy Adam Armstrong netted Southampton's third, which was his eighth goal in fourteen matches. Arma may not be PL standard, but this league evidently suits him perfectly. Despite now being six games unbeaten and sitting in 4th place, Southampton still have the fourth worst defensive record in the division. As far as Birmingham are concerned, it's a third defeat in a row and drops them to 14th in the table. Rooney's arrival has thus far heralded a string of defeats and a goal difference of -5, with six goals conceded and one scored. Rovers' did not extend their run of victories to four, as a desperately poor performance at Ewood allowed Swansea to depart with a 1-0 victory. It was, worryingly, a fourth defeat at home for Rovers in what has been an extremely inconsistent season thus far. Despite not playing well after the first twenty minutes or so, Rovers had chances to score but did not take them. The Swans were slightly more clinical and thus walked away with all three points. Swansea had lost their previous two matches prior to this, so they will be happy to have gotten back on track. The result leaves Rovers in 12th, whilst Swansea jump up to 13th, snapping at our heels. Cardiff's fine home form continued in earnest as they beat Bristol City 2-0 at the Cardiff City Stadium. It's now five wins in seven home matches for the Welsh side, who are making their home ground a genuine fortress. It was a second win in a row for the Bluebirds after a poor run of form, and moves them back into the playoff spots in 6th. The result would have big consequences for Nigel Pearson, who found himself removed from his position within twenty-four hours of this match. He leaves with Bristol City in 15th place, having won five, drawn one and lost six this season. They have an okay defensive record but have struggled with scoring, with only the bottom four clubs netting less often, and Millwall level with fifteen goals. Based on what I read on the Bristol City forums, their fans are appalled by the decision to sack Pearson, feeling he had done a lot of good at the club and been operating with his hands tied, as the club sold their best players and failed to bring in adequate replacements (sound familiar?). It remains to be seen who will take the manager's chair, and whether they'll receive more backing than Pearson got this summer. Preston's horrendous slump in form continued as they were beaten 1-0 by Hull at the MKM Stadium. Preston have now failed to win in seven matches and finally drop out of the playoff spots, plummeting down to 9th place. Just to note Preston have picked up three points from a possible twenty-one. A good thing for them that they had a bafflingly strong start to the season, or they'd be fighting it out at the bottom right now. It was a second win in a row for Hull who, despite a recent drop in form, have only lost three times in fourteen matches. Five draws, however, means that they sit in 7th, just outside the playoff positions on goal difference. Ipswich extended their unbeaten run to 11 games in all competitions as they beat fellow newly-promoted side Plymouth Argyle 3-2 at Portman Road. Plymouth finished above Ipswich last season, but the teams have had contrasting fortunes this season, with Ipswich riding high in 2nd place, whilst Plymouth struggle at the other end of the table in 19th. George Hirst bagged his third goal of the season, for anyone interested. It was a fourth win in a row for Ipswich and keeps them five points behind Leicester in 1st, although they have a game in hand on the leaders. They are nine points clear of Leeds in 3rd. Alongside Leicester, Ipswich are the competition's top scorers with 29 goals to their name, averaging more than two goals a game at present. For Plymouth it was a third loss in five matches, but they still remain six points clear of the drop zone. Middlesbrough's fine run of form came to an end as they were beaten 2-0 by Stoke City at the Riverside. Six wins in a row had catapulted Boro from the depths of the division into genuine playoff contention, but it had to end at some point, and Alex Neil's Stoke side were the ones to finally inflict defeat upon an increasingly injury-ravaged Boro side. The Potters have kickstarted their own revival after a dismal start to the season, and this was a third win in a row for them - the first time they've won three in a row in nearly two years. It lifts them into 11th place, just a point behind Boro in 10th position. QPR gave a spirited performance at Loftus Road against league leaders Leicester, which suggested their players had not yet given up on Championship survival. The game was tied at one each before Harry Winks broke down QPR's resistance in the 80th minute and consigned them to a sixth defeat in a row. This was apparently the tipping point for QPR's owners, as they dismissed Gareth Ainsworth the next day. Ainsworth departs with the club having only won two out of fourteen matches this season, losing ten and boasting the worst goal difference in the division with -16. QPR have since appointed relative unknown Spanish manager Martí Cifuentes, a 41 year old whose recent career has seen him touring Scandinavia with jobs in Norway, Denmark and Sweden. It's a risky move for a side that are in desperate trouble, but he realistically can't do much worse than Ainsworth. QPR are still only six points adrift of Huddersfield in 21st, which is not an insurmountable amount of points by any means. Leicester remain top having lost one match and won the other thirteen. They are joint top-scorers alongside Ipswich and have the best defensive record in the division by far, with a meagre eight goals conceded in fourteen matches. Sunderland ended a run of three successive defeats with a 3-1 victory at the Stadium of Light against a Norwich side who are in absolute freefall. Norwich had gone 1-0 up with a goal that should have been ruled as offside in the build up, but Sunderland came back to comfortably earn a victory and all three points, moving them back up to 8th position. It's been a brutal couple of weeks for managers in the Championship, and one has to wonder if David Wagner is next to get the boot. This defeat is the fourth in five matches for Norwich, with the other being a draw. Stretching further back, Norwich have lost six of their last eight games, one of which was a 6-2 humiliation against Plymouth. Norwich have the joint-worst defensive record in the division, conceding 27 goals alongside Huddersfield. This is even worse than the hapless bottom three. Norwich's only saving grace has been their goals scored, with 25 still being the second highest in the division (Leicester and Ipswich sharing joint-first), but this counts for nothing when matches are regularly being lost. Norwich fall to 17th in the table and it seems inevitable that Wagner will be removed from his post if this continues for much longer. Watford and Millwall shared the points with a 2-2 draw at Vicarage Road. The game had a nice symmetry with two early goals for each side in the 7th and 12th minute followed by two late goals for each side in the 85th and 92nd minute. Millwall remain without a manager and also without a win in four games, picking up three points from the last twelve available. They are in 18th place and remain eight points clear of Rotherham in 22nd, which might be why the board have not rushed into making an appointment. None of the bottom three will be giving them cause for concern, if staying in the division is the objective, and the inconsistency of the rest of the division means Millwall are still only six points away from the playoff positions, so a good run of form under a new boss could easily ignite a playoff push. Watford would have wanted to win this one to record a third victory on the bounce, but have to settle for a point which extends their unbeaten streak to four games. They reside in 16th place. Sunday's match saw two of the worst teams in the division go head-to-head. Sheffield Wednesday, who were yet to win a match, faced Rotherham, who have nearly played a full season's worth of away matches without winning. Smart money would have been on a draw, but alas, Rotherham once again failed to show up on the road and gifted Wednesday their first win of the season - a comfortable 2-0 win. These were also the first two goals the Owls had scored in six matches. Rotherham's lack of fight against the division's worst team - in turmoil on and off the pitch - was shocking to see. The Owls new boss Danny Rohl will be delighted with his team's performance, regardless, and grateful for his first three points, having lost his first two matches in charge. Bucko got on as a sub on 73 minutes, whilst Rotherham new boy Ayala did not get on at all. Wednesday remain at the foot of the table, but three points moves them to within two points of QPR in 23rd, although they are still eight points adrift of Huddersfield in 21st. Rotherham remain in 22nd on 9 points, but do have a game in hand owing to the postponed match against Ipswich last week. Should they take three points from their postponed fixture they would be within two points of Huddersfield, although their absolute inability to win away from home will make it extremely difficult for them to avoid dropping back into League 1. Whether this result marks a turnaround for Wednesday remains to be seen, as victory against a Rotherham side who turn to dust away from home does not necessarily prove much. That aside, there are some major problems beyond the pitch which may derail Wednesday's season regardless of the good work Danny Rohl and his team may achieve. Speaking of which... Special mention has to go to Wednesday's off-the-field drama, as chairman Dejphon Chansiri quickly squashed the positivity of a first league win by declaring on the Tuesday that the fans would have to foot a £2m bill to HMRC or risk the club being sanctioned. He belittled the same fans he was asking money from, which seems counterproductive. How he was able to afford to sack one management team and hire another, yet remains unable to pay an HMRC bill, is as of yet unexplained. One can only imagine what the new management team at the club makes of this - but then, they would surely have known about the turmoil at the club, punctuated by a increasingly impenetrable divide between the owner and the supporters, before taking their roles. For now it seems the brief ray of light from Sunday's result has once again been snuffed out by the ever-present black clouds circling around Hillsborough, as the club stares down the barrel of an unpaid HMRC bill, missed wages, and the host of consequences that would likely follow from these failures. The weekend's final match took place on Monday as Coventry's downward spiral continued, as they were defeated 2-0 at home by West Brom. It's a third defeat in a row for a Coventry team who have only won three matches all season. Adding to Coventry's concern will be the fact they've scored no goals in these three defeats, and have actually only scored twice in five matches. The Sky Blues drop to 20th in the table as a result. No such problems for WBA, though, who recorded their third win in five matches and who have overall gained ten points from the last fifteen available. The Baggies also boast the second best defensive record in the division, with their fourteen goals conceded second only to Leicester. The overall goal difference is also joint-fourth best in the division, alongside Sunderland with +8. So yeah, things are going well for WBA right now and they occupy 5th spot in the division.

As noted, Rotherham can't win away, and so it goes... 2-0 down without a shot on goal against the worst team in the league. Unless they have a major turnaround in the second half the alarms should be sounding there.

I do wonder why they even bothered giving him the Leicester match. Nobody would have expected them to win that one anyway, so why not get rid after losing midweek? Oh well, either way it was coming. Today's match will be interesting. Sheffield Wednesday, who can't win at all, versus Rotherham, who can't win away from home.
