  9. Indeed, and only second by 6 balls as well! Which is incredible and the equivalent of about a 1.5 second gap in a marathon race given that Jimmy and Kumble both bowled 30,000+ deliveries to reach 600 wickets.
  10. I have no idea mate - but anyone who wore them back then stuck out like a sore thumb. Imagine wearing white boots on the mud of Blacksnape.
  11. Paper Lace - Billy, Don't Be a Hero
  12. Ha ha absolutely mate. Many years ago I was playing for Darwen Olympic up at Blacksnape. I was just a cocky kid who thought I was invincible really and it was against Conver Foam, who had the likes of Ged Puzon, Martin Atherton, Steve Eggleston and Billy Preston playing for them, so no mugs. Their centre half had on a pair of those white Alan Ball boots that were all the rage at one time. As we lined up I pointed at his boots and said "You'd better be a fooking good 'un mate wearing those fooking things!" Needless to say he wasn't the bravest I've ever faced after that!
  13. Albert King - Born Under a Bad Sign
  14. I wasn't going to join in this debate as it is a bit off-topic, but ask any player who has played with or against Batty how good he is. That lad had everything in his locker, a marvellous footballer. I can't remember which Rovers player it was (possibly big Col) said when he first saw Batty training he couldn't believe how good he actually was, and even he as a seasoned pro had bought into this urban myth that Batty was a limited player. Sherwood was a flash git who was a world-beater when you were 2-0 up, but not when you were 1-0 down unfortunately. Amazing to think that Kenny gave him the armband above the likes of Hendry, Shearer, Flowers etc.
  15. Aye, Tommy Ball specials with the hole in the heel where they'd been hung on string in the shop!!! He was 'seeing a young lady' in our street at one point in the 1970s, he had some flash cars did Tommy!
  16. And they should be made to wear black boots!
  17. Well its obviously subjective and not really 'proveable' as such but I would pick Shearer, Duff and Friedel because I honestly think that when at Rovers they were the best in their position in the world at that time. Tugay was world-class, undoubtedly and I loved the little fella, but next level from Duff? No, I don't think so.
  18. That's a fair shout as to who our best 3 players of the last 50 years have been, with Tugay running them close.
  19. Well, is today the day that a pace bowler reaches 600 test wickets for the first time? C’mon Jimmy!!
  20. Paul Weller and Andy Lewis - Are You Trying to be Lonely?
  21. Frankie Valli - My Eyes Adored You
  22. Ben Harper - The Woman in You
