In Scotland, if you're an old firm manager you either win the league or you don't. That's all I meant really, I don't get hung up on minutiae and wasn't doing a statistical comparison of the two of them. Gerrard has failed. Same as Mowbray did. He only has one job and that is to finish above Celtic, and as soon as Rangers got close to them this season they nosedived. Sound familiar?

I was a huge admirer of him as a player, but I wouldn't touch Gerrard with a barge pole. Most of us on this message board could have had Rangers finishing second in that league with the resources and support that he's had. Funnily enough Mowbray had a similar record while at Celtic in the same league.

Sometimes it just feels the right time to part company, and sadly we have come to that time with Tony. I say sadly because I suspect that in 20 years we will view his tenure through a different lens and see that he did actually do more for this club than currently meets the eye. Yeah I don’t think anyone was seriously suggesting they had any info - we were just speculating initially really. Despite my reservations about Tony as a manager I do actually think he could walk away/retire, however long he has left on his contract. He won’t be short of a bob or two.

No it wasn’t personal Stuart. You played that card on the other thread as well. I deliberately didn’t name you again here for that very reason actually. I have fundamentally disagreed with you on a couple of issues that’s all. One was your insistence that LIverpool only won the league because of VAR and the other was your very clear remark about Lenihan’s decision to miss the Barnsley game ending our season. They are both very extreme to say the least but you are of course entitled to hold them. Just as I am entitled to strongly disagree if that’s how I feel. I have nothing against you personally at all, as I said before I don’t think I even know you in the ‘real’ world and if I did I would still buy you a pint despite our differences of opinion. It’s not that important really but it is a messageboard where different views are exchanged and as far as I can see that is all we’ve done.

That's exactly how I saw it too Tony. I think he will retire at the end of the season.

They did. Which is what got some of us worked up. I'm not going to point fingers but at least one poster was very specific in saying that the lad's decision ended our season. And that is ludicrous. Anyway its been done to death now.
