  1. Where’s Dryhorse? Thought he’d be on here gloating. I feel as though I’ve have had messages about the cricket result from every single person I’ve ever met in 23 years of living in Scotland. The irony is I had forgotten the game was even being played. The last time I saw a match at The Grange Lancs bowled Scotland out for about 70 and Freddie Flintiff knocked them off in about 4 overs, including a forward defensive shot that went sailing over the bowler’s head for 6. England should have had no trouble chasing 400 on that ground.
  2. None of those examples explain to me under what criteria Ryan Giggs qualified to play for England when he had ‘the choice’ to make between Wales and England. I vaguely recall his team mate from the Greater Manchester schools team coming on here a while back and confirming that. But as I said I haven’t researched it at all, I just recall many people wrongly assuming he qualified to play for England having done so at schoolboy level.

  4. I’d be happy to stand corrected but I don’t think Giggs had a decision to make. He played for England schoolboys because he went to school in England, but that doesn’t entitle you to play for England at full level.
  5. Apart from when he single handedly stuffed the Scots at Hampden Park in the Euro 2000 qualifier.
  6. Cloughie did indeed pay us £100,000 for him before he had even turned 18. That was a lot of cash to Rovers at the time.
  7. I think Duffer has celebrated vigorously a couple of times at Ewood for both Chelsea and Fulham but to be honest I have no problem with that - if a footballer can't enjoy scoring, especially against a former club, there's something wrong. I don't remember him going too overboard.
  8. He got taken on at Ewood just ahead of my younger brother, they played in the same schools representative teams. Didn't Cloughie pay us a fortune for him while he was still a teenager?
  9. Julian Cope - Reynard the Fox
  10. Jimmy Case. Never capped at full international level and won maybe one under 23 cap? Part of the best club side midfield I have ever seen play live (Liverpool, late 70s-early 80s). The other two English members of that midfield quartet, the classy Ray Kennedy and prolific Terry McDermott, only won about 20 caps each. Amazing really, given how good they all were.
  11. Nailed it Hasta. Read this very very carefully dryhorse. Hopefully you will have time to do so before you set off for school.

  13. In terms of dryhorse’s nonsense It actually all stemmed from me stating that the Scottish Premier League is a poor standard - which it is.

  16. Are you claiming Celtic as a Scottish club?
  17. I think we have already established that when it comes to club football the population of the country is simply not relevant. Particularly when we are talking about Celtic and Rangers. But you carry on with your inane ramblings.
  18. Helluva game going on at Old Trafford. Yorkies set Lancs a record 380 from our 50 overs. We have made a decent start as well, 131 for 1 off 17.
  19. Dry your eyes little boy. No stranger than a jock coming onto a Blackburn Rovers message board simply because Kenny Dalglish once knew his uncle at school, then proceeding to get all uppity every time anyone is mildly critical of Scottish football. I take it you are a teenager, because you argue like one.
  20. So King Kenny played in the same school team as your Uncle Charlie and visited your granny in the Milton eh? I'm surprised that in your championing of Scottish football you haven't mentioned that other Milton superstar footballer who had an amazing time in the top flight in England - still to be found in Milton occasionally visiting his sisters on the estate. Maybe he also played for the wrong team? ?? Celtic and Rangers are two of the biggest clubs in the world, in terms of support. They would hold their own in any league in the world, once they had established themselves in it, including the English Premier League. However, I would temper that a little when it comes to bragging about them belonging to 'Scottish football' by making the point that a very significant proportion of both clubs' fan base travel from outside Scotland to support them. I guess this makes them slightly different from the big fish in other small ponds around Europe? Therefore, it is hardly surprising that they have done pretty well in Europe in the past. That said, for various reasons I would agree that the 2003 and 2008 UEFA Cup Final appearances were remarkable. However, the state of Scottish football is more accurately reflected in the national team, which has been a joke for pretty much two decades now and shows little sign of getting any better. I have lived in Scotland for circa 25 years, mainly in and around Glasgow, and from listening to guys in the local hostelries, as well as utilising the evidence of my own eyes, this seems to be the consensus. Of course you will always get the odd decent Scottish player - we have had a few of them at Ewood in fact, but by and large the standard isn't very good. Trouble is, stating that with an English accent is like a red rag to a bull for the natives - exhibit A being you, Dryhorse, who can't see the wood for the trees when it comes to criticism of anything Scottish and assume it is the 'arrogant English' syndrome when the facts actually support the argument that Scottish footie isn't too clever just now. Who cares that Jock McTavish was part of a team that won the League Cup in 2010 or whatever, your national team hasn't qualified for a major tournament since 1998 for goodness' sake! Yet the whole nation celebrates when England are eliminated at THE FINALS. A strange mentality.
