  4. Eruption - I Can't Stand the Rain
  5. I would back England to chase this down. Came back well second ten overs there.
  6. Yes I think that was the story. He has quite a few relatives still living in Darwen, mainly second cousins and their offspring. There is obviously a musical gene in the family - my granddad (his great uncle if I've worked it out correctly) was a well known local musician and ballroom dancer in his day.
  7. If Jack wasn't bothered about being famous, why on earth should you be bothered on his behalf? And you say Jack got nothing in comparison to SAF. Well, I'll tell you something that Jack got. Wealth that us ordinary folk could only ever dream about, and as a direct consequence of that, living the dream of funding his beloved football club and allowing them to bloody a few noses and win things, including being champions of England. Thankfully, he was able to share that part of his adventure with the rest of us. While I'll be eternally grateful for that, the man is dead and buried now and if he didn't court publicity while he was alive he'll hardly give a stuff now, will he? I don't know you, and I'm not really familiar with your history, but as someone who has suffered his own mental health issues in the past, I do genuinely sympathise and empathise with you in lots of ways, but you're like an alcoholic that keeps going back to the bottle. There are some things you'll never, ever be able to change or even influence, but you keep on picking at the scab, and I suspect doing yourself harm in the process. Then there are some areas where you actually do have interesting things to contribute, and perhaps a slightly different perspective to many of us, which is often a good thing. The trick for you Vinjay is to develop a safety valve that allows you to filter out what to get involved in and what to ignore. Take it easy pal.
  8. My cousin! Lee Mack went to Everton School so I assume he lived in Blackburn at some point?
  9. Frank Sinatra - In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning
  10. Vinjay, suggesting someone other than Uncle Jack as the most famous Blackburn lad ever is not tantamount to being a traitor against Blackburn Rovers Football Club. I could be cruel here and say that buggering off to support another club is! I live in Scotland, and I can categorically assure you that even those who follow football and are old enough to remember 1994/95 will not necessarily be able to remember the name of the old fella who funded that particular football team. However, even leaving aside the fact that he was a multiple world champion at a sport watched by millions, if not billions, world wide, thanks to the power of national TV, Carl Fogarty is famous throughout the UK for his victorious stint on I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here .In fact, if I were to stand on Sauchiehall Street in the centre of Glasgow, and ask everyone who walked past me if they knew who 'Foggy' was, a significant proportion of them would, mainly through his jungle stint but there would be many who are motorsport fans too. If I were to ask who 'Jack Walker' was, you'd get as many folk mentioning Coronation Street as you would Blackburn Rovers or for that matter Walkers Steel, and in either case it really wouldn't be that many. You need to seriously calm the kean down matey, getting that stressed over something as trivial as this is not good for you. As for some of the other names mentioned; I've met Wayne Hemingway many times through my work. He's a proper Rovers fan and loves catching up with other Rovers on his travels, though he's not really from Blackburn, as such (born in Morecambe I think). He lived in the town as a child and young adult but now lives down on the south coast somewhere. He does consider himself to be from Blackburn and that's good enough for me. Matt Smith: Had he been from Blackburn I would have said he was a contender just because of the coverage and popularity of Doctor Who. However, as others have said he was born down south somewhere. I am almost certain his dad was a Darrener, Dave Smith, and in fact I think I may have played football against him as a kid. Matt himself was a good footballer by all accounts. Some great posts on here, love the fact that the inventor of Vimto was from Blackburn!
  11. Possibly, but you'd be surprised how many people haven't heard of him or think he's something to do with Walkers Crisps!! Foggy's superbikes wins were watched worldwide, and especially in Asia, which is why I plumped for him. That said, McShane has been in some big shows!
  12. The question wasn't "Most famous Rovers fan ever?" though, was it? As far as 'Blackburn Lads' go, if you take them at the peak of their popularity, Fogarty will be up there with Ian McShane. The likes of Jim Bowen (although he's probably not from Blackburn at all) and Russell Harty were hugely popular in their day, but perhaps only within these shores? I can't really think of any others.
  13. Interesting one that. How do you measure 'popularity'?
  14. Sincere apologies, I don't normally do this kind of pedantic thing, but the lad is actually called Joseph, and calls himself 'Jos'. There's something about getting someone's name wrong that brings out the pedant in me Heskey.
  15. The Electric Light Orchestra - Rock and Roll is King
  16. Are You Ready For The Country? - Neil Young
  17. The Small Faces - Grow Your Own (The riff was nicked by Paul Weller for Peacock Suit)

  19. Is Vic There? - Department S
  20. The Jam - All Around the World The song that introduced me to them when they played it live on the Marc Bolan Show in 1977. Blew me away!!
  21. Gayle batted well but England's bowling was pretty average, even taking into account the wet ball.
  22. Wasn't aimed at you BC, for some reason your post wasn't visible on my phone: Terence Trent D'arby - I have Faith in these Desolate Times
  23. You're supposed to change a different word I think but anyway: Ghosts of Dachau - The Style Council
