  5. Suarez is the perfect centre forward. Whenever I've seen him play 'live' it always surprises me how tall he is. Brilliant in the air and with either foot - he scores goals of all types and has a Dalglish-like awareness of the game around him so brings team mates into play as well. Wonderful player. Just a shame one or two silly incidents have sullied his reputation.
  6. Exactly a year ago I had the pleasure of being in the Camp Nou when Barcelona played Levante and won 5-0, with Messi (3), Neymar Jnr and Suarez (with a spectacular overhead kick) all scoring. I can honestly say that, even as a 50 odd year old, it was one of the best football experiences of my life (along with holding aloft the European Cup in my Rovers shirt - see profile pic on the left!).
  7. Never mind the passed penalty, what about that piece of skill from Neymar Jnr when he flicked the ball between his heels and up and over his back, head, and the opponent, on the run and perfectly into his own path. Just being able to do that standing still is beyond the abilities of most professionals.

  9. Ah, I can get the one in I was pipped on further up this page: Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) - David Bowie

  14. With you on that but my point was, there were plenty who didn't rate that pair when they first played for us and would have scoffed at the time if you'd predicted they would both win league championship medals, (whether at Rovers or not)
  15. Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) - David Bowie Ah, we posted at the same time there BC In that case - Gemini Syndrome - Eternity
  16. People would have said the same about Mark Atkins, and possibly Jason Wilcox too.
  17. As someone who has lived in Glasgow for over 20 years I can report that it has only got worse since the referendum. I used to get quite angry when the sports shops on Sauchiehall Street started selling the football shirts of the three teams who had been drawn in England's group for whatever latest tournament Scotland had failed to qualify for. These days I just pity them. The press (particularly the Daily Record) will whip them up into a frenzy before the world cup qualifiers against England. It gets quite nasty at times. (apologies, I know this is s0d all to do with the six nations!)
  18. The Emperor's New Clothes - Sharp
  19. Forest did it in the late 70s too, and then followed it up with two European Cup triumphs. That - for me - is the greatest achievement ever by an English club.
  20. Home Again - Edwyn Collins
  21. I did too, though I'll never forgive him for that early miss in the Ewood game against Celtic, which would have been a tie-changer. I married into a Celtic family and that defeat hurt more than a Dingle one!
  22. I think it was a fairer comparison than you received credit for (in terms of what they were criticised for, which was I think your point, and a fair one). Nonetheless Andy Cole played at the very top level for many years, scoring plenty and contributing in other ways, neither of which Rhodes has done yet, which is why a couple of folk unfairly jumped on you for making a comparison of them Stuart.
  23. I'm not sure what you mean by this, or the relevance of your second sentence to my post? I was simply pointing out that your use of Shearer as an example failed to mention the countless other players we have had since that scored most of our goals and the world didn't end when they left. Shearer possibly wasn't a great example to pick in any event because other players scored plenty while he was here too. Wait until Rhodes has been gone for a few games, and see how the new players work out, before relegating us.
  24. Not strictly true. We've lost many strikers since then who scored a disproportionate amount of goals so really you've just picked one example to suit your argument.
  25. What if we'd pinned all our hopes on Rhodes for the foreseeable This is the point that so many people seem to be missing. You simply cannot afford to put all of your eggs in one basket, it is way way too risky a strategy. This has been the correct decision in so many respects, now we have to hope that it translates into better performances and, more importantly, points!
