  4. There was a brilliant quote from Gary Neville from back in April, along these lines: "You see teams go to the Nou Camp and get beat 5, 6, 7-0. Barca are a good side. Well, they're a great side. But if I was involved with a team who got beat 7-0 there, I wouldn't be able to look my family in the eyes anymore."
  5. The Undertones - Kiss in the Dark
  6. Amazing to think that England had only scored 350+ twice in their first 650 ODIs and now they've done it 5 times in their last 15!!
  7. My point was, whether amateur, professional or elite, when a member of the team breaches the trust of his team mates there's no coming back from it. This wasn't just a bit of high jinks, being a prat or moaning we were talking about. PS - Amateur sport is not all about fun, at least it wasn't when I played it. It was about winning, whether that be football, cricket, snooker or pool. We got our fun from winning things.
  8. Nick Drake - Way to Blue
  9. Thank Christ its you saying that and not Mercerman
  10. Scritti Politti - Oh Patti (Don't Feel Sorry For Loverboy)

  13. Well done the young Rovers!
  14. Totally agree, and it is a rare thing for a Marvin Gaye original to be bettered by a cover version! From an old Jam fan, there can only be one follow-up to that.... In The City - The Jam
  15. Bettye Swann - Make Me Yours
  16. Neil Young - For The Turnstiles
  17. I don't think there is a single person on this message board that wants anything else my friend (at least I hope not!). Having spoken to a couple of people who were at the game today whose judgement and inside knowledge of professional football matters far exceeds mine, and they said that there was an energy about the team that has been missing for a couple of years (I think they were being kind on that one, its more like 4 or 5 in my view!). I appreciate that we were playing a lower league side, but nonetheless, I am encouraged by that. I posted last night that Rhodes' departure might have a galvanising effect and it looks like it did. RTID!!
  18. The thing is Stuart, we've been in this division long enough now to know that you could take a snapshot of your next 6 games at any point in the season, and depending on your mood or form, make a case for winning or losing all of them. The only one out of that lot I would say is difficult to foresee us getting a result in is the first one. We are fully capable of beating Hull at Ewood, and going to Ipswich and Derby and picking something up. Even despite what us fans see as abysmal form, there won't be that many teams fully confident of turning us over. The games we've lost have been tight, hard fought, narrow defeats (apart from when we went down to ten men early on away at MK Dons). Its the old half-full/half empty conundrum I suppose.
  19. Think you're meant to change the re-used word (e.g. white was the word I had already used from the previous song) Hey ho, how's about Billy Paul - Me and Mrs Jones
  20. The Clash - White Man in Hammersmith Palais
  21. Dionne Warwick - Do You Know the Way to San Jose?
  22. Gretchen Peters - Idlewild
  23. Electric Light Orchestra - Four Little Diamonds
  24. Paul Weller - These City Streets
  25. In the context of what KP did (and it was far from the first time - I think he had gone way beyond the 'bad apple' level) I don't see how you can differentiate between amateur, professional or elite sport. Doesn't matter how good you are, there are some things you just can't do and expect to remain in a team. In slightly different circumstances two other sports have seen geniuses have to suffer similar premature ends to their careers because of persistant behavioural issues with the demise of the two great Northern Irishmen, Higgins and Best (RIP both). KP aside we do need someone to step up in that top order.
