Yeah I was also one of the hardy souls that travelled down to Stamford Bridge for the second leg. A disappointing way to end what had been a brilliant season, one of my favourites. I was out with an ACL injury sustained in a pre season friendly and only missed one Rovers game home and away all season - ironically it was to have my knee operation and it was when Vince O’Keefe broke his leg and he ended up in the next bed to me in hospital. I think Garner ended up in goal that night?
-
He was absolutely 100% nothing to do with it though, despite the rumours. Either by finance or by association. That’s from the horse’s mouth. It was already as you say the best wind-up ever, that particular embellishment was a bit of extra pantomime for the Dingles, given Garner’s history with them. To be honest if I were him I would have carried on letting people think I was involved.

Yeah it’s a real shame the weather has spoilt what has been an enthralling and thoroughly entertaining series.

The Strauss team is the best I’ve seen. England teams of the 80s and 90s were pretty average, despite the presence of two or three superstars. This lot have the potential to be great but I do wonder were the new crop of bowlers is coming from they as we do have a few who are very much the wrong side of 30, and in Jimmy’s case, 40!

I randomly bumped into Don Mackay in a supermarket in Carluke in Scotland about 9 or 10 years ago. His face lit up when talking about his time at the Rovers and he genuinely seems to love the club. We had just been relegated at that point I think and he was very forthright about the circus at Ewood. Oh for a Don Mackay now!

I’d do it for half of that 😉 -
I meant more that his body might make the decision for him. Test bowling is a tough old slog and there have been signs this summer that he’s becoming injury prone. As you get older it takes you longer to recover. He won’t want to get selected purely on sentiment. It must be tempting to try and get to 700 wickets though!
-
I haven’t heard the interview yet but I’m assuming that what was said was the relationship between the Trust and the club was in a better place? And if that genuinely put you off going down to Ewood today then I have no words to be honest.

I would argue he is actually more of a legend than Jimmy, despite having less career test wickets. He has won several matches single handedly over the years with some amazing spells of bowling. Until he got hit on the head his batting was half decent too.
-
I would be very surprised if Jimmy announced his retirement tomorrow for many reasons. Not least because he’s said all summer he isn’t ready to retire and also he won’t want to take any spotlight away from Broady. Whether the retirement decision is taken out of his hands is another matter entirely?!

If the weather is likely to be a factor then we’ll probably set them 375 at some point tonight?
-
Yeah that seems about right. 5 sessions to bowl them out should be enough. It also gives Moeen Ali a chance to be ready to bowl.
-
This has the potential to be a record run chase for the Aussies, given how much time there is left in the match. Who would bet against it though?

And sometimes it’s best not to overreact when things aren’t going quite so well.

There’s a world of difference between “all being friends” and being the club’s “critical friend”. The MoU is an agreement to allow fans to directly influence the strategic direction of the club, rather than just complain that the pies on the riverside are cold.

I really enjoy reading back on the ‘in-play’ posts of some folk on here, they are hilarious, bordering on embarrassing. It’s the same when the Rovers are playing. Oddly, it is normally at its funniest when England have had a bad period in the game. Which probably explains why it’s so quiet today. Speaking of silences stay away Gav 😂😂

Let’s hope the players don’t get too Knack-ered Ian. We are both showing our age big time by the way 😂 -
He’s the only player I’ve ever seen score 5 in a game. He broke the club’s goal scoring record in a classic drubbing of Man City at Ewood on the day of the Hillsborough disaster. I’m glad he got to see us promoted to the top flight in the end. Him and Howie Gayle were a formidable pair in the late 80s, but my favourite season of Garns was when we had Archibald next to him - two top quality players right there! Fitness regimes for players were a lot less strict in those days but nonetheless he took it to extreme levels 😂😂

Surprised nobody has mentioned the passing of Sinead O’Connor. Not really my cup of tea but undoubtedly an influential artist, and very young to die, 56.
