BRFC - The Nostalgia Thread

There's a very small YouTube channel called Rovers 95 that has loads of random goals and highlights that is interesting. The clips are mainly 1990s onwards. -
My memory may be wrong, but I seem to remember Venables using Shearer as a big lump on his own before Euro '96, and then stumbled upon the Shearer and Sheringham combination that worked so well. He also seemed determined to put Spurs players in the team when other players were better. Then there were no places for Wilcox when we had no left wingers, and Sutton and Le Tissier were constantly over looked. He only won two games in Euro '96 in normal time, but we're great wins. He was a pretty decent manager but not this amazing genius some have made him out to be, prior to his death. He was better than Taylor and Hoddle but he was no Ferguson, Wenger or Pep.

I was at that 7-0 match.

Glad I'm at work now and missed it.

I remember seeing David Speedie getting sent off on that old duffer 5 a side tournament that used to be on Sky. The only red card I had seen in that series.

They might made the third tier competition. -

Neither Man City nor Chelsea will get any meaningful penalty. A fine, maybe a few points off but nothing that would really stop them from getting to a European place. -
Watched about 20 minutes of it and apart from the second goal, and then the disallowed goal it was slow, ponderous and like Arsenal when Wenger was past his sell by date. Pass pass pass at walking speed. Southgate laid the foundations, but is not able to get that extra 15% needed to really win. He must go.

I'd laugh if it turned out that Luton end d up benefitting and avoiding relegation because of this. -
Bradley Dack - Twist or Stick?

Are Corry Evans or Smallwood still around? Anyway it seems we dodged a bullet by not being sentimental and letting Dack go. Sammy offers so much more than post injury Dack. -

Just three points off Country and Western in that last play off place. The league is still too close to pick out any promotion chasers apart from Leicester. -
Do it. No idea if they're good live but go on. They are not young anymore and nothing ever lasts forever.

It's probably just me, but I've never understood the fap fest for vinyl. It could be down to my dislike of sentimental reverence in general and my lack of fine coordination with fiddly things. There may be some sort of different quality to the sound but my hearing to pretty crap so it would be lost on me.

He also owns the Coventry Building Society Arena, which would be a bit odd. The money Coventry City pay to rent the stadium could end up buying a player for Reading. -
True. I expect them to eventually fall down the table, but have a good season. I seem to remember Reading under Ince were flying early on in the season and then tanked.

The sports washing for the Saudis is going very well. Newcastle are turning heads and getting neutrals interested in seeing a game if they're on TV, Tyson Fury is fighting there this weekend after Joshua had done and the Saudi League has bought half of the European based players. Good way to distract from their proxy wars, abuses of migrant workers and women from all parts of the world, insidious promotion of extremist Islam across the world and so on. Still, they have loads of oil, and buy our weapons so it's all cool. -

That would be awful, but at least honest. Rugby Union is trying to do the same thing, but a few clubs went bust. -

Ok.......what? This sounds like a way of making social media presence and attendance of the ground turn into points in the Super League. That would be the most unhinged, stupid and unworkable way to run a sport I've seen. IMG had better check the quality of their cocaine supply as it must be mixed with some wild hallucinogens. Both codes of rugby have been going out of their way to screw the game up in England. -

There was an Iranian film about female football fans trying to see a vital qualifier. I forget the title. -
Wayne Rooney's Birmingham city (tm) haven't gotten off to a good start. I wonder who his opposite number is? 😉

He made mistakes but he always came across like he really cared, and tried to build the club. -
I'm in my early 40s and have never put a record on. It was tapes and CDs when I started buying music.

I'd scrap the county game too. It's produced too much mediocrity, and is usually played in front of a few blazers. Perhaps a city based team that really tries to engage with local schools instead of relying on a few private schools is the way forward. But the Hundred being binned is a start.

Delia Smith did it better.

Southgate has all those fancy players, but is too cautious and picks a few favourite players regardless of form and whether they actually play.
