Gerrard is middle of the pack for me. Mixed bag of a career so far and no championship experience. Strikes me as manager who would prioritise his philosophy over results but as has been alluded to could come in and give it a bit of blood and thunder for the run in which could get us over the line. Would much prefer someone with championship experience and promotions under their belt (there's a few out of work) big name, pump the JE compensation money into an almighty incentive, short term deal and give it a real good go. Then reassess what we need in summer.

I totally get JEs frustration with the club and understand him wanting to jump ship. If he'd gone to West Brom I'd get that. But Derby? Come on. He's sat with a good chance of getting play offs and it looks like we've got a couple of good additions from January, plus players starting to come back from injury we have a chance to make a good fist of it and aim for play offs. Surely you'd see out the rest of the season and potential get a play off finish under your belt. If we finish outside the play offs it's not going to damage his reputation too much given that we're not expected to finish there. Whether we think it was a good window or not (not) it's beyond doubt that these bodies came in too late. After the pompey win we had 4 winnable games that we could barely stitch a team together for. We should have been getting 9 points minimum instead we got 3. Those 6 points could be all the difference come the end of the season regardless of whether we had a good deadline day or not.

Overall we're stronger after Janaury than before - Sanderson for Fadz - meh. Probably won't play much, could get more minutes out of Sanderson but probably lose an extra defensive coach - Forshaw - clear downgrade on baker - Riberio - Good to get cover for Beck - Kargbo - remains to be seen but a positive addition on the face of it - Dennis - cracking signing if he's fit and ready to go. Shitshow if it takes him 6 weeks to get up to speed. - Woodrow - meh. Another body, could rediscover his form, could flop. Overall the squad is better than 1st of January but it should be better, a lot better. There's a lot of gambles in there and short term ones at that and our rivals squads have improved significantly more than ours.
