  1. It's 12 years 6 months and 28 days .... 28th March 2010 !
  2. So true, I'll be making the point that it's not the late 1890's, next time a " Blue " quotes your number of FA Cup wins to me !! 😎 Go in peace, my son !
  3. I think our " Blue & White " friends are a little nervous, as are we, Longers !! Some interesting comments about ownership, which are a bit rich seeing as they had Mr Walker's benevolence, followed by the indulgence of the Venkys ( £219,000,000 and counting over the last 10 years ). If I could perhaps paraphrase Churchill, " Never before, in the history of Football, has so little been achieved by so many ( managers ), with so much " .... As for Europe, I'm surprised they even bring it up .... 7 European campaigns, with the best performance being to reach the last 32 of the UEFA Cup in 2006-07. Burnley have reached the quarter finals of the UEFA Cup's equivalent, and also the European Cup.
  4. I saw an earlier reference to Burnley's " Dad's Army " .... Cork, Rodrigues and Gudmundsson are 33,33, and 32 respectively .... Josh Brownhill & Josh Cullen are 26, but none of the rest of last night's starters are over 23 .... I'd say it's a Classic blend of " youth & experience " !! 😁 As for the " Derby " on the 13th, I've seen enough winters to know not to make any rash predictions ....
  5. For interest, here's Burnley's starting XI from last night, and their appearances in senior Football ... Muric 82 Maatson 89 Vitinho 92 Harwood Bellis 94 Bayer 52 Brownhill 353 Cork 556 Gudmundsson 449 Tella 56 Zaroury 86 Rodrigues 493
  6. Not at all, dear boy ! We're just taking it " one game at a time ", and enjoying the ride which tonight included the " Hand of God ", provided by Mr Grant Hanley, formerly of your parish ! As for the injuries, a simple " Google " search will reveal that our Club Doctor is an ex QEGS pupil, brought up in Wilpshire, with a long and distinguished history in Sports medicine.
  7. To lift the doom and gloom and confirm my generosity of spirit, may I nominate Blackburn v Burnley on April Fools day, 2001 ... The one thing of which I am sure is that, with the possible exception of " Longsiders ", absolutely no one else posting on here will agree with my selection ! 🤣
  8. As others have said, he played 20 minutes as a substitute against Huddersfield in our opening game, and hasn't played since, due to injury, we're told ... In general, I'm really pleased with how the season's started for us, one defeat in 14, unbeaten at home and top of the tree, what's not to like ? However, I've followed this game long enough to know that these things are transient ... 3 wins on the trot or 3 defeats can put a totally different gloss on things ... By the time of the World Cup break, to which we'll only lose Connor Roberts, we'll have played 21 games and both Clubs will probably have a better idea of what we can realistically expect from this season.
  9. I was just about to extend the hand of friendship, and invite Jim to be my guest at Turf Moor .... 😎
  10. Pretty much what " Longsiders " said, to be honest ... and also to wake up tomorrow and find out that Josh Brownhill is still a Burnley player, he's been at the heart of a lot of good things so far this season.
  11. I have a Rover's supporting friend , rather younger than us, who got married last year to a Burnley girl. For the last 10 years, my wife and I have shared our home and provided support with two Adult brothers who live with learning disabilities, under LCC's " Shared Lives " scheme. When Chris invited one of our gents, Keith, to be an usher, Keith started crying and explained " that I never thought anyone would ever ask me to do something like that, because of how I am " ! They also asked him & his brother to compere a version of " Mr & Mrs ", at the Reception, which brought the House down ... It was the week after Rovers had conceded 7 at home to Fulham, a result to which his Burnley inclined friends had made reference, as you'd expect. Of course, this group of us Burnley fans were put on table 7 at the reception but he had the last laugh. When the waiter came round and filled our Champagne flutes for the toast, he poured our entire table " 7up " from a litre bottle of the stuff ..... " Seeing as you lot are that bloody keen on the number 7 " 😎 He's a lovely bloke ....
  12. Just got this link on " The Beehole End " forum and filled it in ... A couple of questions certainly make you think ... " I would not mind if one of my children married a supporter of Blackburn Rovers " with 5 options ranging from strongly disagree through neutral to strongly agree. As long as he/she loved them, treated them right, and made he/she happy, I wouldn't give a tuppenny damn who they support ! Far more unites us than divides us ...
  13. Just watched ex Football League Referee Kevin Lynch on the " Under the Cosh " series, with John Parkin, comedy writer Chris Brown and his namesake and ex-Rover Chris Brown ... Free on " Youtube " and very funny, but does include some " industrial " language ! Some chit-chat to start with, but starts in earnest after about 10 minutes ...
  14. As a fellow Claret, 100% agree ... sorry to hear about this !
  15. Ha ! I've been a member at Blackburn RUFC since 1979, and have a lot of Rovers supporting mates. There are a small band of Clarets there, though I'm always amused when I hear from " Oldjamfan ", as one of my oldest Rugby mates ( a Claret ) is just such a man, I remember him in his Jam tie at Disco's 40 years ago, and he's always kept that particular faith ! Kind comments about the Quiz, which I actually did put together myself .... As for a likely defection to the Blues, if you believe that, I've got a bridge I can sell you !! Keep well, all ! 😁
  16. Very sad to hear this, and thoughts and prayers go to his family. The fact that he graced both our famous clubs with distinction seems a trivial point at this time. I had a couple of business dealings with him, and he was a lovely man. A great competitor and not above a bit of mischief. There is a great story where he was charged at the " player's court " at Gawthorpe by Stan Ternent for appropriating something from his office. Len pleaded " not guilty " . At that time, Len was the only Black player in the 1st team squad, and unfortunately for him, Stan then produced the CC-TV footage which clearly showed a " gentleman of colour " entering & leaving his office. " What have you got to say for yourself ? ", pressed Stan. Len drew himself up to his full height, " It's mistaken identity " !! Even Stan couldn't help but laugh ... RIP Len ... you'll be missed ! 😢
  17. Answers ..... 1) Arsenal. The Suffragettes also attacked Deepdale and Ewood Park as " bastions of male dominance " but were less successful. Arsenal moved the 13 miles from south of the river in leafy Plumstead, Kent to Highbury, North London. Without the Suffragettes, Spurs may have had " Norf London " all to themselves !! 2) Mansfield - Hurst Park racecourse held it's last meeting in 1962. It was in West Molesley, Surrey, less than 15 miles from Ascot. When it closed, Ascot actually bought 200 acres of turf from them to lay on their new National Hunt course . 3) Blackburn - The body found in a shallow grave at 84 Nuttall Street, was identified as Julian Brookfield who'd gone missing in August 1984. Brian Blakemore, of Accrington, was eventually convicted and sentenced to a total of 17 years. 4) Hartlepool - Their letter requesting £3,250 compensation was eventually replied to rather forcefully when the Heinkel He-111's appeared over Victoria Park in 1940 5) Notts County - The " temporary " structure was purchased from Forest when Meadow Lane was laid out in 1910. 6) Vale Park - The original 1945 plans were for an 80,000 capacity and parking for 1,000 cars. The Board could not be accused of lacking ambition, but post-war austerity, no money, lack of building materials and the fact they were in the 3rd Division ( N ) rather scuppered things. 7) Hampden - The record is 149,415 for the Scotland v England game in 1937. 😎 Queen of the South - Sounds a lovely part of the world ! 9) Shrewsbury - One of the coracles used by Fred Davis is now on display at the new Shrewsbury ground. 10 ) QPR - My Dad attended the White City game between France and Uruguay in 1966. The BBC built a number of building on the White City site in the 1980's .. 11) Arbroath - Notable mentions for East Fife's ground, and Blundell Park, home of Grimsby Town, where you'll also feel a sea breeze or two ..
  18. To clarify, it's any Club playing in a National League in Great Britain .....
  19. Cracking effort ... I'll reveal all later today, just decided to take our 18 month old Grand-daughter out to Lytham, so I'll post the answers when we get back !!
  20. 15 between them maybe, but I agree 100% with the thrust of your argument !
  21. The answers are all either the name of a British Club or Ground ..... good luck ! 1) Which Club's move to a new ground was prompted by a Suffragette fire bomb, that burnt down the main stand in 1913 ? 2) Which Club bought a Grandstand from a race-course that shut in 1962, and moved the whole structure, taking nearly 6 years to rebuild it ? 3) What Club's redevelopment during the 1990's led to the discovery of a body, and a subsequent conviction for murder ? 4) Which Club spent nearly 25 years trying to sue the German Government for fire damage following fire-bombing by a Zeppelin in November 1916, before realising that they were wasting their time, when the " dastardly Hun " bombed them again in December 1940 ? 5) Which Club bought a stand from their local rivals in 1910, and floated it across the river to its new home ? 6) Which ground, built in the post-war years, was designed to hold 80,000 and optimistically nicknamed, " The Wembley of the North ", before being drastically scaled back when the money ran out ? 7) Which ground holds the UK and European record for an official Football attendance ? 😎 Dumfries and Palmerston Park are the home of which Club ? 9) For many years, Fred Davies & his family used to retrieve balls from the river, that ran alongside which Club's ground ? 10) The White City Stadium, originally built for the 1908 Olympics, hosted just one game in the 1966 World Cup Group stages, because Wembley's owners refused to reschedule a Greyhound meeting ! Which London Club had two spells at White City, the last being 1962-63, before deciding to stay at their original ground, where they still play today ? 11) Which British Professional Club's ground is nearest the sea ?
  22. In these difficult times ..... the fuel prices, domestic energy price increases, a possible drought in the North-West, the post-Covid economic issues and the Political vacuum, I think it's important to concentrate on what unites us, rather than what divides us ... That was extremely entertaining, funny as f**k, and as for Gary Neville's face at half-time .... Don't get me wrong, they can't be that bad all season, but let us all enjoy it while we can !!
  23. Thought you'd appreciate this poem by Roger McGough ... Let me die a young man's death not a clean and in-between the sheets holy water death not a famous-last-words peaceful out of breath death When I'm 73 and in constant good tumour may I be mown down at dawn by a bright red sports car on my way home from an all-night party Or when I'm 91 with silver hair and sitting in a barber's chair may rival gangsters with hamfisted tommyguns burst in and give me a short back and insides Or when I'm 104 and banned from the Cavern may my mistress catching me in bed with her daughter and fearing for her son cut me up into little pieces and throw away every piece but one Let me die a young man's death not a free from sin tiptoe in candle wax and waning death not a curtains drawn by angels borne 'what a nice way to go' death
  24. At the parade ring at Aintree ?
