The FPP group are certainly credible people. If the club was to fall into their hands that might not be the worst scenario. Some people might wonder if they lent Sunderland 9 million expecting them to default on the loan. Even billionaires sometimes want to save money though it would seem more logical just to buy the club outright. At the very least FPP > FUP.

Now everytime a new manager is hired under this regime it will stand out if they don't get a flag. A new manager (with no prior Rovers connections) however should refuse on grounds that they haven't done anything to earn one. Whether Mowbray has or not is open to debate. If the club paid for the flag then yes it's clearly PR.

Irony with Souness is the cheaper signings were better though he had the advantage of working with Friedel/Tugay earlier. The more expensive ones were the flops besides Cole. To be fair most people thought Ferguson would be a success. Grabbi's signing was questionable especially given we know now that Souness basically did it on evidence of a video. Same with Hughes (elsewhere obviously) who wasted big money.

Well there was a big falling out after losing at Old Trafford when Rovers players didn't laugh at being thrashed there. Not that results dropped immediately because Rovers won at Highbury a few weeks later. I've seen it put down to intense training methods and a tiring side (not a lazy team either) but there wasn't a warning of how bad things would get in following season. Hodgson's signings in 1997 other than Henchoz didn't do anything special but they were not disasters either.
