Fleetwood Town (A) - Pre-Season 2020/21
WacoRover replied to a topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Thanks for all the comments! -
I made this point earlier (p. 211). This was the issue last year, and it is the same problem again. It just appears the club wants to put a band aid on the same problem every year. It is slipshod, careless, and definitely not planning for the future to go after loaners every year.
-
Re: getting a gk as soon as you realize you need one: We saw what happens last year when you get a loaner gk at the 11th hour, almost as an afterthought. Not pretty. It’s just not proper planning, or looking to the future. It’s just a patchwork job, that must be continually fixed or replaced.
-
We were 14th in goals allowed. From that, we lost our gk & a centre-back- both returned to parent clubs. We released our other 1st team gk. We have one experienced centre-back. It’s less than a month until our opening game. So, what do we see on the official club website? Uniforms. Apparel. We’re interested in looking pretty, over actual Performance on the pitch. Unreal. You can’t make this stuff up.

Whenever we sign whoever, he will acknowledge Blackburn “is a massive club” ?
-
It’s frustrating, waiting so long to get new players in. It’s what happened the last two years, and it surely doesn’t help the team.
-
Exactly. Everybody involved with the club surely understand the critical nature of obtaining a quality keeper. This could be the season Rovers make a big push at playoffs, or possibly auto promotion, IF we hold onto key players, and improve ourselves at keeper, LB, and CB. if not, we will be just another mid table club in the Championship.
-
This is true, but it seems to me Mowbray should know this is a critical season, he needs to put up & shut up, or he will be canned. He cannot afford to take any more players on potential. He needs to hit a couple of home runs this time.
-
Exactly; if it was you or I, or any of us, we would jump on the opportunity. Rhodes, Cairney, Dann, Hanley, Gestede, Duffy, et al, I didn’t begrudge any of those guys for making the most of their chance.
-
Definitely agreed; the future is now! Add a quality gk, LB & CB to this squad, lose nobody, and this is our playoff push season. If we do not make it, fire sale & I would expect owners should Fire Tony.
-
No, but 139 pages of carping about the past, Whining about the owners not caring, and moaning about Mowbray, though! ?
-
Not to mention, getting a true LB and a decent ‘keeper. It can be done!
-
I will have whatever you’re drinking

This should be the case. I was one who voted for Mowbray’s return; however, a lot of that was based on seeing what kind of talent he brings in this off-season...we’re still waiting on that. Adarabioyo will be difficult to replace, we know that already. A quality keeper is a must, as Walton was not as consistent as the guy he replaced. Left back, or the absence of a quality presence there, has haunted this team far too long. The way this team moves up the table is one way: improve the defending. If the off-season ends and we haven’t acquired talented players, this should be apparent sooner than later. Unfortunately, by then, any worthy manager will already be working. Tony will have to muddle through til the end of the season. Make or break season is right. Hopefully our “break” won’t take us back down to L1.

Thank you, Revidge, for getting some footie talk going on this thread again. I would love to see this team stay intact (Arma, Dacky, Lenihan, Travis, et al), and add key new personnel at the 3 spots previously mentioned. I believe we would move into one of those playoff spots, and be where we haven’t been in at least five seasons... finish in the top 10, with a legit push to get back into the PL. btw, when I took my tour at Ewood in September, Jenny, who has been at the club since 1996, said the owners put £1 mil/month into the club. That just keeps the doors open, and pays necessary expenses. We don’t have to love the owners, but they keep the club going that we love.

It’s a gamble, but almost everything is. The fact Liverpool has kept him that long is a plus, as is his youth. Phillips, I’d say, would be safer. I would guess and say it’s doubtful we could afford him as a backup, either.
-
Young, been with Liverpool nearly 5 years, No first team appearances. I don’t see him getting on the pitch for them anytime soon. Intriguing, if Rovers aren’t looking at him, they should. same with Brewster, he tore it up at Swans.
-
Texan... our son was a student at U. of Reading at the time, I didn’t become a fan until age 50.
-
Yes, Duffy played abysmally in one game in a Rovers shirt. But, Dann, Duffy, Hanley, all were excellent players at Championship level, and have proven their worth in PL. Trashing them today makes no sense, obviously all are on backside of their careers now. Dann & Hanley were with Rovers when I first became a fan; Dann scored the 1st Rovers goal I ever saw on TV, in FA Cup match at Ewood vs ManCity.
-
They’re not too big, but they sure are slow. LoL
-
Dunny gets Matty Platt, I hope they both have a successful season in EFL.
-
It’s just hard for me to believe we target Cornell, a career League 2 guy.
-
Going back to potential keepers, any love for Scott Carson?
-
lol, I had to laugh when I read this. An American coach I admire said “nice guys finish last.” Not always true, but give me somebody who plays with passion & fire, and doesn’t apologize when he runs over you. I would love to see a couple of backs come in who have bad attitudes and poor personal hygiene, and play junkyard dog mean. That’s what I’m talking about.

Miler, I agree with you totally on gk & LB. I’m not sure if Wharton is solid at the Championship level. We have to trust Mowbray on what he does with Wharton. I know one thing; you & I are in the minority here, recommending Tony get even part of next season. I’m not sure I can recommend him for the whole year- obviously, if he gets in 2-3 key players, who drastically improve the defending, we start showing improvements and our position on the table warrants it as the season moves on. Some forget about it, but our best run of the season occurred a couple of games after we lost Lenihan & Cunningham at QPR. I give Mowbray credit for that. So he does make good adjustments. Evan after we lost Dack, it took three games, but we started scoring again. I would want him replaced, if we get better players at those positions, and we fail to show any improvement, and he proves he cannot right the ship. We’ve shown improvement this season, albeit, in small steps. That’s good enough for me... for now.
