What I want is for the manager to dispense with his idea to ‘transition’ us into Tika taka football. This group of players love playing heavy metal football and Wednesday was a fine example. We don’t need 70% possession of the ball to beat teams. I want Mowbray to keep that 11 and blueprint of high octane football with uncompromising centre halves, workman-like midfielders, lightening quick wingers and a little un off a big un, up top. Everyone busts a gut to get forward and everyone kills themselves to get back. It suits the players and us as fans. We were all buzzing after Wednesday. The progression is simply to by better footballers to suit this mould. Upgrade the quality but keep the identity of the team.

It’s more difficult a decision for the owners and their advisors. Undoubtedly things haven’t been great for 12 months. But, overall TM has had a hugely positive effect on the club both on and off the pitch. They see a man of real substance who cares deeply about the club, supporters, players and staff. He’s so hard working and genuine. All those around him want him to succeed. Im pretty sure he won’t be sacked. But he will walk as and when the tide turns on him...

I wouldn’t say whispers as such. I’m very sure he won’t be sacked. But I’m also fairly sure that he won’t hang in there if it’s going wrong with the fans etc...he’s a really top guy. High morals and principles. Enough to walk away from his contract if necessary.

I’m not saying they couldn’t play together tbh though I’d prefer to play with a three rather than a two. Mainly because neither Trav or Holtby have played there much in their careers. Trav has been a rb for all of his career. He still struggles at times with options and threats at 360 degrees as oppose to full back where you play roughly within a 45 degree arc. Holtby is naturally forward thinking and creative so needs that bit more protection. I think Buckley will play as a pivot (Busquets / Carrick) because that’s his natural position. His feet and mind are miles ahead of Trav now. He just Needs to fill out a bit and get a run in the team. But he can do the dirty stuff too and will not get caught out of position. I like the Idea of 4231 formation with something like Arma, Dack and Holtby sat in front of Trav and Buckley (who will dictate the play and step out when needed to make it a 4141). I can see that being used under this regime very soon. Still have decent options backing up too. Johnson, Davenport, Downing, Rothwell, JRC...

I didn’t say they’d be our regular starting CM by Christmas. I said that Buckley would be playing / involved regularly from Christmas and that eventually I see him settling in CM next to Trav. Holtby is 100% not a CM. But hey ho. Game of opinions I guess.

I agree. There’s no doubt that there’s huge question marks hanging over both Gally and BB based upon the fees we paid. I’d say it’s a 40/60 split, good to bad signings (Not good enough). Should the likes of those two kick on and the likes of Chapman, Davenport and Rothwell break into the first XI then I’d say he’d be more 70/30 which is pretty good in the market overall...but that’s a lot of IF’s. I think Mowbrays eventual undoing will be his ability in the transfer market and inability to get the formula right (tactically) over a prolonged period. I noted your remark about lack of development and I think that was particularly harsh. I do have a bit of insight into this area and I can see clear development in the likes of Nyambe, Lenihan, Williams, Travis, Rothwell, Armstrong and evenparts of Graham’s game since Mowbray came in. That’s not to mention the managers intense focus on the youth and the work he personally, And with the coaches do with Bucko, JRC, Butterworth, Magloire etc. I think his focus and ability to develop players is good. As for the person who claimed he couldn’t possibly be able to develop a player because he was a ‘clogger’....wasn’t Klopp a defender? Mourinho a translator? SAF a defender? Nuno at Wolves a keeper? ....awkward.

Rothwell is a class act. Bit his attributes seem to place him as a better impact sub than first team mainstay. Id start with Holtby, Dack and Armstrong with Rothwell backing them up. The managers comments this morning are interesting huh? Talking the academy up in particular Bucko (who, as I said earlier they fully expect to be starting games regularly in the new year). To me Mowbray hints that he’s been to India to square off some transfer funds saying that the other young players are probably not ready to take them into the Premier league...yet.

You, on the other hand are proving that you are so obsessed with the manager that you can’t even give him an ounce of credit, even when he’s obviously done his job. Maybe you think that by conceding he did a good job for one game that you are somehow strengthening the managers stance. But I think you and Stuart have lost perspective on this. Haha - how difficult can this be for you? An experienced manager who In general has done a good job for us, had his first good managerial day in the last 7. Does it mean all is forgiven? No. Does it make him the man to lead us on? Not really. But it’s pretty clear that he got it right yesterday. We were the better team and when faced with adversity the manager and players got the decisions right. The end.

Jonty was brought in to facilitate that pathway whilst Downing and Johnson were bought with a view to being here a year or two, max. Smallwood (as I said in the summer) is history and Evans will follow. I fully expect Bucko to be starting regularly by Christmas. JRC and Butterworth to be integrated ready for next season. Chapman is more to do with him sorting himself out. Bennett, Evans, Johnson, Downing will be squeezed out by the end of this season. That’s my prediction.

I think you’ll find it’s an opinion. I love Bucko. I’ve been harping on about him for months but I’m not sure he even touched the ball until he scored the winner. The match 100% turned on Tosins goal. I agree with and like quite a bit of your stuff and you talk sense. But ultimately your post last night was wrong. The manager had a good day yesterday. He set a team up well to nullify and better a decent side. He made proactive substitutes before their lucky goal and both Graham and Rothwell were positive influences on the match. His summer signing Tosin (who was absolutely amazing) gets the equaliser and the young lad who he’s had practicing his finishing all week comes on and gets the winner. By somehow spinning this into yet another negative view on Mowbray it just weakens your / our argument. Because any person at the game today will accept that he did his job well. Does that mean he’s the right man to take us on? Probably not.

How can you possibly know what his wish was? I saw both Evans and Bucko warming up but even if Evans had been there on his own how would you know if the manager had asked him to warm up or he’d taken it upon himself? The fact is that the manager had made two substitutes BEFORE they scored which showed his intent to win the game. Then he made the Buckley one which won the game. Give it a rest Stuart. The manager got it right for the first time in a while. Does it mean he’s the one to take us forward, probably not. But he deserves some credit for yesterday.

A well deserved win against a decent Sheff Wednesday side who we nullified all match. Whilst I confess, I didn’t see the two goals coming at 0-1. I’m delighted for the lads and the manager. Don’t think I’ve celebrated a goal like I did Bucko’s since Charlie’s header at Donny. The defence looked very solid overall. It’s the first time I’ve seen Tosin. What a performance! Dominant, unflappable and my god that lad can pass a ball. He and Nyambe looked strong and Williams at lb is a safe pair of hands. Bennett was average imo and the goal cam from him not getting over to block the cross. It’s the first time I’ve seen the 4141 formation and I have to say it looked good overall and it gets a lot of our offensive players onto the pitch. If we persist with it I can see a pathway for Bucko, JRC, Butterworth and Chapman onto the pitch. Gallagher didn’t look great again. Long term, I think he will come good but Danny Graham is still a better option up front imo. Play into him and let the likes of Arma, Dack, Holtby, Rothwell, Bucko etc feed off him. fantastic result.

Nah, Evans AND Bucko were warming up together when Murphy scored in the 83rd minute. Your point is also fairly moot bearing in mind the two other subs he’d made in the second half were clearly sent out there to WIN us the game. The match didn’t turn on Bucko coming on, it turned on the equaliser which came out of nowhere. But the result was one we were well worthy of after being the better team for around 60 minutes of the game. Mowbray did his job yesterday in setting up the defence which looked solid overall and in making the substitutions which had a positive effect on the results. I’d like to see that happen much more regularly. Whether it be under him or the next manager.
