You were doing so well until this!! Mowbrays Championship record with Rovers is pretty far from abysmal. In the season we went down the team performed in line the top 6 following his arrival. Last season (barring that god awful run which exposed our squad depth) we were a top half team in our first season back and we’re two games in to this season... I’m not saying Mowbray is tearing up trees in the Championship. His results are fair at worst and good at best. Abysmal, they are not.

I agree. I don’t know why he put so much pressure on himself tbh. The team finished 15th. To have stated that he was looking to further improve looking for a top 10 finish would have kept most fans and the owners happy imo. When he came out at the end of last season saying he wanted top 6 I was sure he must have been given the nod by Venkys to spend £15-20m net this window. That obv was not the case... So now they’re stuck with the expectation of a top 6 club and the budget of a bottom half club. Barring a miracle, I think he’s signed his own death warrant.

I’d wanna give Johnson a go...
-
He’s more tetchy because he knows he’s history if it continues. Venkys expectations high. Management team reckon they’ll be gone within 10 games if it doesn’t work out.
-
Yes, evidence of what I said over a week ago. The management team know how important it is to get it right. They’ve raised the expectations of the owners and fans this season and are exposed. So expect more prickly interviews and cut throat decisions on players. Mulgrew is just the beginning..
-
Oooooosh....watch how many skip past that comment! ??
-
Nope, I was there home and away. He was injured for a while and played at lb. When he was finally put in at CB next to Lenihan (A position he represents his country at) he was decent. Not spectacular but decent and did a job.
-
Williams is a decent cb and much better than Mulgrew.
-
Mowbrays stance against Mulgrew for me is a sign that he knows he’s under pressure. Mulgrew and Bennett are piss poor defenders. If he’s cslled them out then so what. More importantly he’s seems to have fired Mulgrew off to Wigan for his insolence. The squad may be feeling a little unnerved. Good, I say. There’s a few in there like Dack, Mulgrew, Bennett who’ve been coasting for months. Maybe it’s a shot across the bows of the players who’ll be thinking “Jeez, you don’t wanna piss the gaffer off. If he can shift the club captain out in half a day he can get rid of any of us!”
-
Being realistic, the window has been ok. We’ve added some championship experience and quality. The signing of Cunningham and loan of Mulgrew is good business too. BUT we have not suitably sorted the defence and do I’m disappointed and I do not believe we will achieve our goal. The manager is under pressure.
-
Ahh come on mate. Get with the program! They only become available at that point. Everyone hates deadline day. But clubs hang on as long as possible.
-
Lenihan, Nyambe, Tosin and Williams is a better unit without Mulgrew. Imo
-
The loan moan is a weak argument! A lot of clubs have proven that you can be VERY successful with loan players. This idea that we have to own a player is outdated imo.
-
Mate, have you seen how bad Mulgrew is now? You don’t need that type of experience!
-
I’m sooooo happy they’ve got rid of Mulgrew. Been a cracking player but embarrassing now. Starting to feel sorry for him tbh. Plus, if he’s gone, he can’t be picked and this blows up the idea that Tony won’t get rid of his ‘boys’!
-
I’ll genuinely be happy to get Cunningham in and let Mulgrew go just so I know Tony can’t pick Charlie!! ??
-
Letting Mulgrew go is like signing a defender because it means TM can’t play him!! ??? They must’ve needed big wages to cover. Please let it be Hanley and Cunningham in.
-
If this is Mulgrew out and Hanley in I’m bloody made up!
-
I hope it’s true about Mulgrew!!
-
Mate, you’re preaching to the converted here. But on the final day, with nowhere near the amount of defensive reinforcements through the door and the local newspaper, club CEO and manager desperately trying to dampen down expectations, you have to begin to worry. I am the eternal optimist but in reality Mulgrew is DONE. Proven at the end of last season and evidenced on Saturday. Whilst Bennett is never a RB and his performance on Saturday was one of the worst I’ve ever seen from a professional footballer. If those two aren’t replaced then we will do well to achieve 15th position this season. The manager knows it too. In unfathomable why it hasn’t been addressed. Hope they do something today..
-
Where’s this upto? @Madon ?
-
Depending on how the sales and purchases were made (instalments) we could easily have spent nothing extra so far.
-
It’s absolutely scandalous if we limp out of a promising window at a critical time having spent zero (net) and with no significant defensive reinforcements. I have made my point to the people I know. I genuinely believe that having lifted the fans and owners expectations, the management have their necks firmly on the block. They know that a bad first 10 games will see them out of a job. I feel sad for them. Hope Jonty doesn’t get dragged in to the pending carnage!
-
After preseason, Magloire is now behind Grayson in the pecking order.
-
In fairness to TM he’s replaced and frozen Smallwood out, the guy wasn’t picked for any of the last seven games last season and wasn’t in the matchday squad on Saturday. If he decides he doesn’t want to leave then that’s his prerogative. The blame only lies at the managers feet when he’s failed to replace players who are obviously not good enough to start. Like Mulgrew and Bennett. That could be remedied by the introduction of Nyambe and Tosin on Sat plus another defender signing. Imo it doesn’t matter if Tosin hasn’t had a full preseason, he can’t be any worse than Mulgrew. I actually feel sorry for him. Painful to watch how much he’s deteriorated.
