How did they “clearly” want to keep DL and JR more than RN!? All three were offered new deals well ahead of time….the only difference was that Rothwell and Lenihan were good players and got better deals. Meanwhile, 18 months after I’d made my mind up on RN (an 18 month period where ‘the club’ made at least two attempts to extend his contract - in opposition to my opinion) the guy signed a 1yr contract to play for Wigans U23’s on less money. But yeah… 👍🏼
-
For the record, just to put this shite about me siding with the club to bed. I really liked Lenihan and Rothwell and I didn’t want to lose them…Hyam and Lenihan would’ve been class and we haven’t replaced Rothwell. They were both good players, unlike Nyambe. 👍🏼

I just say what I see. I thought Nyambe was crap long before any contract issue and I thought JRC was a better fullback than him, the first time I saw him play there. I posted as much. The funniest thing about your assertions about Nyambe and ‘the clubs’ view on him is that, believe it or not Nyambe and Mowbray got on wonderfully….in fact there’s only Tony at the club who rated him. The rest, in particular Venus thought he was crap and were on him all the time. The problem with Nyambe and Mowbrays love in, was that it gave RN the idea that he was much better than he was and he decided to hold out for a better deal. Once Tony was gone and he realised no one wanted him, it was too late. JDT and GB withdrew the contract and RN got a year in Wigans reserves on LESS than he was on at Rovers. Awkward.

I agree. I think he was a great athlete and had he been two inches taller, might be a decent cb, but he’s a rank bad fullback and the likes of Brittain, who hasn’t even been able to establish himself, due to injuries are head and shoulders above him. Brittain has historically been consistent in terms of games played, so fingers crossed he’s passed his injury issues.
-
Ahhh, have Wigan ‘mismanaged’ Ryan too? He’s crap mate, always was. Surely watching Brittain, a cheap-ish signing from Barnsley is all the proof you need. Fwiw - I thought JRC was better than Nyambe at RB during the Mowbray era. Though that was more to do with how bad Ryan was rather than how well Joe was playing.
-
I agree mate, not even comparable. I honestly think some of us had been watching Nyambe so long that they had a ‘Stockholm syndrome’ type love for him. He was VERY average. Brittain miles better.
-
Anyone remember when Ryan Nyambe was a ‘thing’ ? Thank GOD we’ve moved on 🙏🏽

Aged well….😉

Who knows? He’s been absolutely shite, but we don’t have anyone else available and Vale is even less effective that Gally. Which is why, honestly I’d just keep playing him in the hope that one crashes in off his backside, he regains some confidence and scores another 5-10 goals between now and May. He is a handful when he’s on it 🤞🏽
-
Same 👍🏼

Same team, bar Carter for Ayala. Fingers crossed Diaz on the bench instead of Vale and ready to come on with 20 mins to go, for Gally and get the winner! FWIW - watching Brittain on Tuesday only cemented my opinion that he’s the best fullback we’ve had at the club in years. But for injuries, he’d be held in the same esteem as Hyam, if not better. Which is high praise since I rate Hyam the best CB we’ve had since Nelson and Samba!! JRC magical at RB, and the little tactical move to switch to a three in defence when we have possession and tuck him into midfield is working at treat. The ball he played to Sorba for the goal on Tuesday night was filthy!! Keep proving folk wrong, Joe! Szmodics is a good player too. Looking forwards to him getting a run and showing people what he can do. praying Gally can shake these horrific performances off to play himself back into form. There is a handful of a player in there somewhere, we need him fast!!

I think, what’s clear is that no one in the Prem fancies him. If they did, with the money floating about, someone would’ve taken him by now! Ben is probably hoping for Spain, but looking down the barrel of France at the moment. If he can’t get a good enough offer from there then it absolutely makes sense for him to sign a £30k per week contract with us. He hasn’t done much since November to tempt anyone to part with some cash. So maybe this contract offer has some legs? Either way, if I was in charge at Rovers I’d encourage him to sign, provide the platform for him to have a grandstand finish to the season and take the highest bid, anyone was willing to pay in the summer. Knowing us, we’ll sign him up for another year, he’ll have a shit hot end to the season, Venkys will turn down every bud in the summer and then we’ll let him go for nowt, next summer!! 🙈 -

100% agree, but what if Ben and his advisors currently have no decent offers on the table for him? Maybe at £30k we’re 25% above anything he’s got on the table? He’s not loyal to the club, he’s shown that by refusing to sign a contract for nearly two years….but he does have a new baby at home, so maybe a million quid and another year in the Ribble Valley playing every minute of every game is appealing now, in context…🤷🏽♂️ -

He’s been after a move for a long time mate. We just haven’t accepted those lower bids so far. He’d get a lot more than £30kpwk in Spain or France….my guess, assuming we don’t go up (when no doubt he’d want another raise) he’d be off like a shot in the summer we’re we to extend his contract and then accept a bid… -

I think you’ve missed my point. We were discussing this new contract they’ve supposedly offered him. Which IF he were to sign then any team wanting him would have to pay a fee for him this summer. Which is a dream scenario for Rovers. -

If we sold him in the summer, even for £5m, after agreeing an extension this month then we’d have a bit of cash to go and get a couple of players, surely. I wouldn’t be surprised if they tried to offload Gally either. Doesn’t look like JDT rates him. -

We turned down £8m didn’t we, last year? It wasn’t enough then….what I’m saying is, I’d let him sign the new contract and then invite bids. Sell him to the highest bidder, whatever the amount and we’ve had a dream vs currently losing him for free. -

I think Ben might have worked out that in spite of his ‘global rise’ and the three subsequent transfer windows since he became Diaz, no one has stumped up the cash for him in spite of record spending levels in the top leagues. It would seem, if the rumours are true of us offering him another contract, that he has nothing sorted im Spain either. Honestly, speaking objectively, if I were Ben, I’d ask Rovers to extend that year to 2yrs and do the deal. If I were Rovers, I’d agree the £30k, 1yr deal now and sell him to the highest bidder in the summer. £3m, £5m, £8m…is all better than nowt!!! -

They don’t want to see us struggle. They just want to be ‘right’ -
I know the manager is getting flak here and I understand it…but honestly the players he was left with in the summer are absolutely dross. Mowbray never had a squad as bad as this, including the year we went down. It’s an absolute miracle that we’re safe from relegation.

Finally someone who has removed their emotion. If BBD or Gally were in anything better than diabolical form we’d have beaten Wigan by 3 or 4 playing the same way tonight. Goals change games and we / the manager are getting badly let down by the forwards at the minute. Which is the reason JDT is fuming with GB etc.
