  1. Currently head coach of Charlotte FC in the MLS. Would cost money to bring in so can rule him out 😂. On the plank on Twitter who is 'definitely not Mercer', if they have said we're closing in on Karanka then if anything that reassures me that Karanka won't be coming!
  2. Not particularly concerned about not getting Gary O'Neil. Him and Boro seem like a perfect fit though so wouldn't be surprised if that happens. I still feel like it will inevitably be Karanka because of the Rudy Gestede connection. Karanka also strikes me as the type who'd take just about any job looking at his history in management so far.
  3. I agree. You don't drag a team up to the top 6 in the division whilst being unhappy with the way the club is run if you're not a top pro in your field. That being said, the guy seriously gives me the ick now every time I've seen him talk since he went to Derby 😂.
  4. Dunno about that. Swansea have been on a rotten run and if they do bring someone in it's because they were fully planning to pot the previous head coach. Rovers situation a bit different in that they're in decent form again and the 2 wins on the spin gives them breathing space to bring the right person in for the job. Swansea are in free fall and will possibly rush an appointment through because of that, in the hope that they get the new manager bounce.
  5. Wish Siggy all the best but it just hasn't worked out. When he broke into the team under JDT it looked like he could become the new talisman to replace Brereton Diaz. Had he managed to stay fit then he likely would've adjusted to the Championship and become a key player for Rovers. Sadly not to be.
  6. Who did he want? We know Dembele was one, but of the players mentioned above, the ones that have signed all seem to be turning out ok as it stands. Obviously very early days on Kargbo and Ribeiro...but Ohashi has been a good signing, Gueye has turned a corner and is now looking like he has the makings of a proper centre forward, Danny Batth is probably in the top 3 for players of the season. I've no doubt Mostafa would've been good, while Germain would've been a bit like Gueye and Ohashi as a complete unknown. We rightly give the club stick about how things are done and the way the club is being run, but recruitment this season at least appears to have been ok in terms of the quality of players. The obvious criticism is that the club seem to take an age to do anything and there are too many players brought in on short term deals. Anyway, back to Kargbo...love the look of this guy already. The more I watch Dolan's goal, the better Kargbo looks. Direct and quick, just what we need.
  7. Tricky one. Swansea are not in good form really, and will be there for the taking. Rovers have every chance of making it 3 wins in a row but I feel like a score draw is more likely...we don't get many of them so we're probably due. No real need to change anything at the back, but there is potential for one or two difference further up the pitch. I suspect Hedges will get the nod over Kargbo on the left for his defensive work. Can see Weimann coming in for Cantwell as well. Nice to have options. I'll go for a 1-1 draw.
  8. The talk over on Twitter is that he is getting the sack.
  9. Watching the highlights and that 2nd goal is a thing of beauty really. Kargbo and Gueye link up has a lot of potential. The speed of the move, the clinical finish from Dolan....just brilliant. Do Swansea still needlessly try and play out from the back? If so then Kargbo might be a good option to start with and put their defence under pressure with his pace.
  10. Stinks of Kolo Toure's spell at Wigan. It didn't go well!
  11. Fantastic win, what a week! Forget all the off the pitch crap, the players have shown they are well up for it. Shame Cov got a late goal, that 5 point cushion looked pretty nice, especially with an improving goal difference. Delighted to see Kargbo have a hand in the 2nd goal, hopefully he kicks on and proves himself quite a shrewd and astute signing. Give Ribeiro a longer deal! Only minor complaint is that surely we need to be giving Dennis some minutes when we're 2 nil up. 5-10 mins off the bench would do him the World of good you'd think. Funny old game. A couple of weeks ago it was 2 wins from 7 or something...now its 3 wins from 4. Things change very quickly and I reckon there will be plenty more ups and downs before the season is out. I suspect by the time Rovers play again there will be someone new on the touchline. Hopefully it will bring a 3rd win in a row as well.
  12. Feels like Kargbo and Dennis are needed for Dolan and ACD.
  13. Forshaw starts, as does Cantwell, ACD and Sanderson. Carter on the bench.
  14. I'd take Duffer over a lot of the names mentioned, but maybe that's just me with my nostalgia tinted glasses on. It is the kind of thing the club would do at this point though, for sure. Bring in a fans favourite to stave off any anger in the short term, especially as this lot never think long term anyway!
  15. Yeah, sorry I should've clarified it was Alan Nixon. You are right, he has gone full PR mode with "the owners are rich, this has nothing to do with the Venkys, Eustace just wanted to go and manage Derby, etc." What I'd really have liked in that scenario was for Andy Bayes to have challenged him more. Bayes was on the 72 podcast or whatever its called with Jobi McAnuff and I thought he was good in getting across what the problems at the football club are and why its likely Eustace chose a relegation fight over a playoff push...but presenting his own show on Radio Lancs last night he didn't relay any of those same thoughts to Nixon, who seemed to think Henry Winter / Big Sam were wrong in what they've been saying this week. Instead they just started going on about what Troy Deeney had been saying on TalkSport, which is a waste of time really given Deeney hasn't got two brain cells to rub together. Frustrating to listen to.
  16. I'd be surprised. He's doing well at Strasbourg and was unfairly dismissed by Hull. He'd surely think twice about coming to work for this lot. I'm going to guess that the supposed 3 that have been interviewed are Karanka, Wicky & Wellens.
  17. I listened to the show and he was critical of Henry Winter, as well as Big Sam, who have both said their piece on how badly the club has been run by Venkys, and rightly so. His point about how Big Sam 'should know better' because he tried to leave Rovers before Venkys came in is irrelevant at this point. The fact is they've ruined the club and Allardyce has simply been making that point this week. It was really quite strange.
  18. Gerard is a huge no from me. Failed at his last 2 clubs and only won 1 trophy in Scotland at one of the two biggest clubs in the country. Never even managed to win a cup competition up there and arguably only won the SPL title because Celtic completely imploded for a season. I can understand why others would want him, but I think it'd be a disaster. I think he's one of those former brilliant players who struggles to deal with the fact that the players he coaches are nowhere near what his level was as a player.
  19. I'm more worried about Travis to Derby if Rovers don't sort out a new contract!
  20. Location of where they live shouldn't come into it at all. Wellens isn't the right choice IMO. Needs to earn his stripes with a promotion to the division first.
  21. Unless you're dining at the absolute top table in football management, most head coaches / managers do use clubs as stepping stones to go onto something bigger and better. Same as with players really. That's just the way it goes in football. Having said that, he's taking a risk by potentially making a big backwards step by dropping down to league one if Derby go down, which I think they may well do given their lack of goals.
