Valérien Ismaël: Blackburn Rovers Head Coach
Feed the Yak replied to DE.'s topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Not getting the negativity here tbh. We all know it's a load of bollocks behind the scenes but I'm fairly happy with who we have brought in and think it gives us a chance in the run in to the end of the season. I'm not sensing a lack of ambition from Ismael, in fact he seems like someone that will be demanding in a similar sense to JDT. His style of play will also not require any significant alterations to what we are doing right now. Now if we don't make the top 6 and then get promoted there are obviously concerns about what happens next, but that would have been the case whoever was in charge. I'm personally happier with this appointment than I was with Eustace when he was brought in. -
If it is Ismael let's hope Gueye can stay fit, he'll be key to his general approach working this season. Of the candidates his approach is less likely to change what we have in a considerable way, if anything it will be further simplified and there will be even less playing out from the back. The worry is we become too easy to read and rely on hopeful long balls. I do think we have the players to potentially make it work though. I personally prefer him to Wagner, Karanka and some of the others that have been listed and as I said, I think he would cause the least upheaval in terms of how we set up and play between now and the end of the season.

No it's the chap with the specs and a rovers badge on his coat, classic tall, dark and handsome type.

I'm not blown away by O'Neill but he seems the obvious choice. If we did what most of us expected and spent most of the season in or around the relegation places we would have no chance of bringing him in so hopefully we take the opportunity to give ourselves the best chance this season and next. Sticking with Lowe is something that I wouldn't want, if we didn't achieve promotion then imagine how bleak the candidates would be, so we need to strike now.

Great player technically but he never did the tough stuff and you can't get away with that in this team. Shame as I had high hopes when he came in but he never earned a place in this team.

Glad Boro are looking to take Pears but how much will that cost us? Presuming they'll need to be compensated... -

Big chances for Toth and JRC, let's see if they can step up and take them. Hopefully Buckley can follow-on from his performance at the weekend as he was one of the few who had a good game. -

Looks like he can cover left back also? Sounds useful as a squad player, but I wouldn't throw the kitching sink to get him. -

I had significant doubts about him when he came in. The scarring over the years increased my skepticism that the appointment was anything more than a yes man for Waggot. I was disappointed with the way we set up when he came in and felt chances to win and pull clear of relegation were squandered and interviews talking about togetherness were a folly. I take it all back. Regardless of what happens moving forwards Eustace is clearly not only an intelligent and pragmatic manager but a motivator too and that is essential in modern football. It's great to be smart but if the lads don't like you, you're not going to be around for long. Big respect to Eustace and I hope he can remain focused on the task at hand without interference or interruption from above and around him on the non-playing side of things. I thought I was done with it all last season, but I am so proud of this team.- 3118 replies

Well I don't look silly and tbh, shameful to say I haven't watched a game since the Birmingham draw. The bloke hasn't got what it takes and reading comments on here confirms that. For me, his appointment has been the final nail in the coffin for my commitment to the club...looks like this is also the case for the players based on the results. There is only so much shite you can take before you say fuck it, I'm done. Of course, Venkys is where the ultimate blame lies...I hope things turn around one day for those of you who have more stamina than I do, big respect to all of you but I refuse to be hurt and angry anymore. -

I wish him all the best and I very much hope I am wrong but I'm really not feeling this appointment. Proof will be on the pitch and what happens behind the scenes but he doesn't give me anything to feel excited about, confident about or even interested in. Early days and hopefully I look silly down the line... -

First time falling asleep while watching Rovers yesterday. Could be very well rested by the end of the season. -
But what a bus to be thrown under...

Poor decision making all round here -
I hope Scott comes good for us, he did very well before but as part of a back 5. I don't have confidence in his ability on the ball and in picking out passes, which has become an important part of our game for each player on the pitch. It's a tough one for Scott, I feel he would come good in a more direct team but that is not us.

Yeah a couple of poor games it has to be said. Prior to that though he has been clinical. Hopefully it is a case of needing to get to full fitness and up to the pace of the Championship. I wonder if he might be more useful in a central position up top from what I have seen so far.

I would put Wharton in for Hyam, sink or swim time. If he can't hack it, it's probably time to move him on as we can't afford to carry a liability as our back up CB. -
Dack did brilliant things at Rovers and will be remembered fondly, but I'm glad we didn't renew his contract. He doesn't fit the system we play and I'm unfortunately not convinced that he is able to produce the magic of yesteryear on even a semi-consistant basis. A sad end for sure.

Couple of howlers from the goalie in the Stanley game.

Nice win over Nice last night. Winner in extra time after it looked likey they had snatched a draw with a late equaliser. Well done boys.

It's taking the piss sticking with Pears in goal, utterly pointless. -
