  1. "some very ugly beer guts?" a can of skol was the half time refreshment in our side and those pitches at astley park in chorley were truly terrible, you had to arrive an hour early to clear away the dog **** and check for needles, the only positive was at least the council mowed them from time to time
  2. did anyone escape unscathed from sunday league football??it was`nt about a kickabout for 90 minutes, more a look how hard i am
  3. dad was a pro footballer(albeit a short career),he always had me playing from an early age, schools(i played against david unsworth,he was actually pretty ****,just bigger than everyone else, how me made it as a pro is a miracle),local u14`s and u15`s,i was`nt a bad player, two footed and a nippy wide player as well as a full back,i was just completely unmotivated, especially when i left school and beer, betting and chasing girls were the main objectives!!!!!,played pub football as well which was`nt the wisest choice, you spent most of the match hoping the ball and local pyscho would`nt come near you when we were little dad used to take me and my sisters to matches round lancashire,if it was`nt rovers,it would be chorley or north end sometimes,i should be eternally grateful to him really because he was born in bolton and if it was`nt for a leaking radiator in his vauxhall viva id`e have ended up a bolton fan, fortunately ewood was only a short drive from our house so thank the lord, imagine the misery of a lifetime supporting that lot ? to sum it up,football was a big part of our growing up,i`ll watch a match whatever the standard and iv`e never understood anyone who does`nt like the game
  4. only thing i remember about this match is turning the radio on in my dads car and finding out that wrexham, bottom of the whole football league had beaten george grahams brutally efficient arsenal, this of course was a time when the fa cup was still considered as the one to win
  5. this will not be an easy game, barnsley overpowered us twice last season,we were lucky to win at home and got completely marmalised at their place, however im`e confident we can withstand their no nonsense aproach and get 3 points, just hope we don`t put a stinker in because we`ve got a sniff of the top six again?
  6. they were an absolute nightmare to play against,it was literally a fast ,ariel bombardment for the whole 90 minutes
  7. the only way it`s going to work is to put gally through the middle and hit it long in the hope he gets few knockdowns for armstrong to run on to,pretty certain that`s not going to be how we play,so in reality it`s the same old **** from mowbray
  8. ironic is`nt it,playing two centre forwards who cost a collective 12 million quid and both of them out wide?
  9. he`s suspended under the yellow card rule i think, trybull should be better in his natural position, though the jury is still out on him
  10. gally will be scampering down the flank like a startled gazelle
  11. i was due to go but was ill so i gave my ticket away for next to nothing, the lads who did go also said it was a fantastic trip and the feyenoord lot were complete headcases, did`nt one of them throw their pint of beer at morten gamst pederson !!!!!!!!
  12. he had williams on a silver serving platter,it was painful to watch, tony just stood there shaking his head,it was one of the most sickening episodes of the last decade, this year having no crowd might help us tbh,i think the noise scared our snowflakes last year, preston bullied us without mercy in the 2nd half
  13. decent sides don`t have any problems figuring us out, thats why im`e not looking forward to tommorow, although at least there is no walton to **** things up and wharton looks a solid defender, hopefully he`ll have that big, clumsy oaf stockley in his pocket,i just hope everyone turns up tommorow and it`s not one of those insipid ****shows we put on more times than not
  14. cowans always had loads of time on the ball, the sign of a class player, arguably up there with glen hoddle, zico and michel platini as the finest passer of football iv`e ever seen, incredibly only got a handful of england caps, which says a lot about the strength in depth of the england team in the 80`s
  15. we should be chomping at the bit to get at a side that is playing poorly at the moment, however,it does`nt always happen with the current rovers side, you never know though, hope springs eternal that we`ll have one of those games where everyone shows up
  16. we were flying at this point of the season, promotion looked pretty much on,i remember it was a bloody cold winter that year as well
  17. dingy,dinghy,dingey,dangly,dongly,whats the difference!!!!!!!!!
  18. tbf to preston, they hav`nt had much to cheer about since the 1960`s,it`s not surprising they are bitter and angry, seen blackpool, rovers, burnley and bolton all reach the top flight, while they languish in their own sad world of " we are a sleeping giant syndrome",i have no dislike for pne,i don`t really consider them a rival
  19. river, city centre,we travelled in a mini bus,by the time we arrived in oxford,id`e drunk so much carlsberg,i would`nt have noticed if we`de been in the middle of the arctic circle?
  20. moggasaurous???,what a fantastic description
  21. i don`t suppose you can moan about a point away from home but we are going to have to raise our game another 50% against pne, they are a far better side than luton and i doubt we can match them after our exertions today, unless tony has some master plan up his sleeve
  22. sam should have picked up the ball and thrown it at mowbray, shouting "look at that"
  23. lol at the luton commentating *****,they`ve gone into despond mode?
  24. lol,i was thinking when he was offside from a corner!!
  25. i agree,i don`t think he`s any use,send him back
