v Preston (h) - 31/1/2025 - k/o 20:00
SpaceBarSlam replied to ...'s topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Lovely bunch of Preston fans proudly singing about Osmajic's bite on Beck as they were heading into the ground, I suppose that's what's considered "bragging rights" over there. As for the match, sometimes you need a bit of luck and we were due some. Great to have Travis back, we look so much more cohesive as a unit with him in the team. -

Nice to be the benefactors of a "you could guarantee he was going to score" for once! -

I hate to say it, but I'm seeing this as a match where the only aim is to get through it without any more significant injuries. Give Trav 15/20 mins to help build him back up to fitness and then there's (almost) a full week of rehab and training for the other muscle strain lads before Preston. Depressing that it's come to this, but that's what the clown show in charge has reduced us to at this moment in time. -

What's worrying me as much as the lack of incomings is the absence of any rumblings about player contracts. Has any first-team player extended since Broughton left? -

It's a difficult balancing act for JE because he must, surely be absolutely fuming at the lack of backing just like the rest of us, but he's always put a big focus on team morale which has played a significant part in getting us this far. He won't want to sow further seeds of discord within a team that is visibly mentally and physically weary already. I wouldn't blame him for walking at all, but I think he'll see it out to the summer and then let his agent tout him around elsewhere. -

First time I've been lacking any enthusiasm for a match all season. It's the disheartening inevitability of JE and the team pushing beyond all expectations to be right in the heart of play-off contention only for it all to be undone by the refusal to back them from those upstairs/in India. Tronstad and Trav's injuries are just the cherry on particularly rubbish, familiar cake. -

I know it's the nature of the fixture list and easy to be churlish with our captain and vice captain out along with the other various injuries, but it does strike me as somewhat ridiculous that we're playing three times in seven days during the coldest months of the year. Surely they could space out these midweek-weekend blocks a bit more across the season. -

My concern right now is that circumstances are going to force Travis back early from injury, along with his own eagerness to get back out there. I remember him coming back from knee surgery a couple of years ago, clearly too soon and he was well off the pace for weeks. It's one of many concerns about the club tbf, but certainly something that worries me over the next week or so. -

To have one of Trav and Tronstad out is bad news, to have both of them could potentially end our play off hopes. -

Brittain is so important to the way we set up at both ends of the pitch. PotM performance tonight. -

Who seemed a bit confused, usually goes to Buckley when Trav and Tron aren't available. -

Well, bearing in mind that it's been a relentless festive season of fixtures, I thought we matched them very well even with our injury woes. It's that cutting edge though, isn't it? And I just don't see where the money is coming from to find the goals that would push this team up a gear. Ahh, to have Szmodics under this manager in this team. -

I worry about this team over the next few matches. Not necessarily just because of the quality of opponent, but imagine we lose the likes of Pickering, Hyam or Sonny to injury due to the sheer load and we're going to be very, very stretched. -

The only way to utilise Gueye is as a sub to stretch tired defences. He just doesn't have the attributes to be a starter. That "shot" managed to be piss weak and miles off target. Feel we're really missing the rejuvenated Travis, in terms of tenacity and those runs from midfield. -

This is really scrappy and sluggish. Am I imagining things or have Hyam and Batth swapped sides? I could swear Batth usually plays on the left. -

This is such a likable team right now, they absolutely work their bloody socks off and you can tell they're playing for each other and the crowd. -

I once watched a tennis match where Serena Williams lost to a much lower-ranked opponent who was surprised as anyone else and asked her coach during the match, "do you think she's surprised by how bad I am?". I'm often reminded of that moment when Gueye comes on for his substitute cameos. I'm not completely writing the guy off at all, but there's a wildness and unpredictability to him that does have a value in its own, bizarre way. Would I trust him one on one with a keeper? No. Do I see the value of bringing him on against a tiring defence and a team with their fans on their back? Yes. -

Pretty even match. Felt we ran out of steam towards the end and waited too long to bring Gueye on. Ohashi had a great chance, but I'm just not convinced him up top on his own. -

We've been debating the fact that Hedges seems to be one of the first names on the sheet for Eustace where I sit in the Riverside (consensus is that he's not good enough, particularly when played on the right and having to cut inside constantly) and I can only think that he gives us some height in the attacking unit? -

How Buckley has managed to get the most passionately sung fan song (after Yuki, maybe) is genuinely baffling to me. Must be the luck of having a three-syllable name!
