What, the same Steven Carr who is one of the best right backs in the Premiership? Lucas Neill, like a lot of our players seems to have had a new lease of life under Hughes and he has been a solid figure in our back line. I'd hope that the board would reject any offers from Newcastle or any other clubs for Lucas, because he has improved hughley and is getting back to what he was when we first signed him. Although, another right back to provide cover for him would be welcome.

This is a game that we must be targeting for a win. If we win this and the other teams around the bottom lose, then I'd think that we would definitely be staying up. We are playing well at the moment, we are defending well and proving hard to beat. I hope that in this home game against a struggling Southampton side we would be able to show more of an attacking side to our play. But it is the result that matters and if we win, which I think we will, then I'll be happy. 3-0 to Rovers with Stead, Reid and Thompson getting the goals.

Those two players are out work now! Bowyer is a lunatic and Dyer is a spoilt brat, but I wouldn't mind having him on a free transfer!
-
Great result for Rovers, especially as Palace and Norwich both lost. It sounds like United totally dominated the match, but just couldn't break us down and that is a sign of how well we are playing at the moment. We have had 4 tough fixtures in a row and only lost one of them and that shows how far we have come under Hughes. We are edging our way to safety!

It sounds like we are living a charmed a life. United have hit the post a couple of times and have had some other efforts cleared off the line. Pedersen missed a sitter before half time, according to Charlie Nicholas.

With a lot of United players being away on international duty, hopefully they will be tired on Saturday. With very few of our players away, we should be well rested for what is going to be a very difficult game. I would consider a draw a good result. 1-1.

[Archived] Buying A Shirt (read this if you need help)
RoyRover replied to Leo1875's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
I got myself a home Blackburn shirt on Friday in Belfast, for £12. There was nowhere in Belfast that you could get Blackburn stuff, because all the sports shops only stock the likes of Arsenal, Man United, Liverpool, Celtic and Real Madrid. But I found this massive sports shop in the south of the city, which has almost every football top you could want and at knocked down prices. I'm going to get a name on the shirt, but I'm not sure who I should get. Pedersen, Stead, Reid and Emerton are the only ones that I'd really consider, but I'm going to wait until the season starts to see who is still at the club, who we have bought in and whoever has been brought is any good. -
Being hard and uncompromising, isn't the same thing as being dirty.

I just have to say how bad Dickov was today. He can work as hard as he likes, but when you are a poor footballer and you are up against a class side then you will get found out. I think that he should be kept, because he would make a good squad player. But in the summer Hughes needs to buy a striker, to possibly pair with Stead, or two new strikers, to form a new partnership. -

Quite a disappointing result for Rovers against a hugely under strength Arsenal side. We had a very good first half, apart from the goal, but we failed to create very much going forward. But in the second half Arsenal were the better side, but we has some good chances, with Emerton going close and Reid really should have scored at the end. A win would have put us 11 points clear of the relegation zone and it would have set the semi final up nicely. -

I think that we have a pretty good chance in this game. Arsenal aren't playing that well at the moment, they are defending badly and Henry is out. A win would almost certainly guarantee our survival, as long as other results went our way. Even though this suffocating style that we have brought to our game is working well, I'd hope to see a more open game, where Rovers can show what they can do going forward. At the same time, this could play into Arsenal's hands, but without Henry, they aren't the same threat on the break. I'm going for a 2-1 win for Rovers, with Stead and Reid getting the goals. -

I forgot to say how bad Pedersen was last night. Recently he has been putting in some top performances but last night he was dreadful. It was funny listening to Andy Gray, who just couldn't put into words how bad his deliveries were from set pieces. As for the rest of the team, the defence looked solid again, Emerton did ok, as did Flitcroft. Even though the performances of late have been very good and we are no longer conceding lots of goals, I do hope that this isn't going to be our style of play, under Hughes. -

A great result, from a pretty awful match. We are looking solid at the back, although I was crapping myself when Matteo came on. We offered very little going forward, but Stead did do well up by himself and Reid tried his best to support him. Reid had another good game on Merseyside. Mokoena (or Mokewenka, as Robbie Savage refered to him as, must know him well) IMO is becoming a top class defensive midfielder. He is the type of player that we have been missing, for so long. He does the dirty work like Makelele and Hamann, but they are so important to the team. If we sell Flitcroft at least we know that there is someone in th eteam who can do his job, but only better. Well done lads! -
At least he can concentrate fully on Rovers now and he won't be picking up any injuries from playing internationals.

I'm abit dubious about the draw itself. Would it is be ridiculous to think that a Manchester United v Arsenal final, would be a more appealing final for the FA? I know that there was a 50% chance that we would draw United are Arsenal, but it makes you wonder. Well, we'll just have to go to Cardiff and ruin the party. It makes Saturday's game against them even more interesting.

It's going to be another hard game and on paper, it is probably the easiest game that we are going to get from the next three games. If we play like we did against Everton, then we have a chance. A draw would be a great result, considering that Liverpool are playing pretty well at the moment. Just as long as we don't play like we did last season! I'm going for a 2-2 draw. -

A great result, not the best of games, but I'm not really bothered. The result makes the game look closer than it actually was. Leicester didn't come to win the game, they were looking for a draw and to bring us back to the Walker's Stadium. In saying that though, Rovers, will have to improve dramatically, if they want to have a chance of getting to the final. Apart from Pedersen's free kick, Dickov's chance and Neill's run into the box, Rovers created very little. They keep the ball well and look solid at the back, but they are missing that bit of class up front and in midfield. This can only be corrected in the summer, when Hughes has the chance to bring in new players. Apart from his goal, Dickov did little to impress by himself, showing that if we are to have a greater threat going forward, we need to play with two strikers. However, I can see us playing the same system in the semi-final as it makes us harder to break down. I hope that we get the winner of Tottenham and Newcastle, instead of Arsenal or United. But at this stage, any of the teams left will be very hard to beat. I can't wait for the next round! -

I'm glad to see them go out on loan, McEvely especially. It will give the some games and experience. I think that it is important that we let promising youngsters, like McEvely go out on loan. -

I'm really looking forward to this game and it makes it even better that it is on the TV. Rovers have the chance to get to an FA Cup semi-final, which is somewhere that they haven't been for years. Leicester will come into this game full of confidence, after they knocked Charlton out in the last round. If Rovers play like they did on Sunday against Everton, then we should win. However the players shouldn't go into this game thinking about a possible semi-final match. They must concentrate on the game in hand. I'm not sure on what formation we should play. The 4-5-1 worked well on Sunday, in closing down Everton, but I didn't think that it lead to many chances being created. For it to work, you need your wide men to come into the box, to support the striker, which didn't happen enough on Sunday. However, Reid showed that he is willing to get forward given the chance. If he were playing in a 4-4-2 formation, then his ability to get forward maybe reduced. It does on the other hand give you 2 strikers, which is an obvious benefit. Both formations give us a great chance of winning, but the players must be in the right mindset to do so. 3-1 to Rovers, Stead, Pedersen and Reid with our goals. -
I was delighted to see United go out last night. It is all worth it when you see Ferguson's face, when he realises that his team just aren't good enough! As for Chelseas, I would have like them to have lost, just to shut Mourinho up. Some of the football that has been played in the Champions League has been awesome. I think that either Ac Milan or Juventus will win the competition.

I too think that Nissa has done more than enough to earn himself a new contract. When Hughes first came in, the first thing that he did was to sure up the defence. Todd and Johansson were playing together and it was their performances, which stopped the team leaking so many goals. Since Nelsen has arrived, Johansson has been playing at left back, partly because Matteo has been injured. But I feel much more comfortable when Johansson is playing, than when Matteo is. He can play in both positions, which makes him a very good utility player and one that all teams need. As for Koumas, I wouldn't really want someone, who can't get on for WBA. -

I do believe that we will be getting rid of more players than we wil be getting in and I do think that we wil be playing more or less the same line up, with a few exceptions. I think that Rovers need to get rid of alot of the dead wood in the team: Matteo Amoruso Gresko?(I'd be inclined to keep him, but if he were to leave I wouldn't be that bothered) Short Douglas Tugay?(He can be used as a squad player, he isn't able to play every match, if the club were to sell him and bring in a replacement, I'd be happy) Flitcroft(He's been a loyal servant, but there are better players about who can do his job) Bothroyd Jansen?(If we kept him I'd be happy, injuries have kept him out of the side and I'd like to see what he could do with a run in the team. But if he left, I'd have no complaints. This will be Hughes real chance to bring in the players he wants, and to form a team that he wants. With so many defenders possibly leaving, I'd say that Hughes would look at bringing in a new left back and another centre back. I'd also like to see two new midfielders, one defensive and another attacking. If reports are to be believe, Bellamy looks like he is coming to us. I'd also like us to bring in another striker, possibly from abroad. Alexander Frei is a player who I've seen on a number of occasions. He is fast, strong, good in the air and is a great finisher. Last season, he scored 20 goals for Rennes, while this season he has got 12. So, I've put 9 down to leave and 6 to come in, which would reduce our squad by 3. I don't see this as a problem, as many of the players listed don't get a game anyway. It could be a very interesting summer. -
The Guardian match report was pretty good. However, I was a little annoyed about the comment that Mokoena is starting to get a thuggish reputation. That's very harsh, because he hasn't justified it. Yes, he broke Robben's foot, but it was an honest challenge and apart from that he hasn't done anything that bad. Sure, he wil have made some bad tackles, but doesn't every defender? I also had to laugh at Neill being described as being intimidatory toward Kilbane.
-
I'd rather play Neill who is a right back, at right back, than a right winger, who can play right back. Neill was terrible at the start of the season, but since Hughes has come in, he has steadily improved and I don't have any complaints with how he is performing at the moment.
