We looked the opposite of the Eustace team today. Going forward we looked like we could score and created a lot of chances. Lots of crosses coming in as well, two of which we scored from. Defensively though we were not convincing and the goal was entirely down to shit defending and a really shit keeper. If we sort out the defence then there's a slim chance of a late playoff push, although bear in mind we haven't had our annual January sabotage yet.

Nobody is claiming Tugay to be one of the best Premier League players of all time though. As I've said previously, Scholes was top class and there's no denying that but in more recent years he's been elevated to this legendary status that is a level beyond where he actually was. Time will tell which level Adam Wharton will be at. We all know he's pure quality but we'll have to wait and see if he cracks that very top layer.

We play Ryan Hedges there because Pickering, a player who has been a first team regular for years, is being frozen out of the squad due to his wages.

Nothing new about top earning players being frozen out of the squad at this club. I see they've fully committed to the 'model' of 13-15 years ago.

We'd retain some of those players if the club had the slightest shred of ambition to do anything other than just simply exist.

He's certainly up there but there's a few ahead of him that's for sure. Put ot this way, I never saw him play and came away thinking "fuck me what was that?" Always a solid player though, even though there's no way he'd have got away with half that dirty shit if he didn't get the protection from the refs.
