Remember it very well. Like it was yesterday. Flicking between Sky Sports and Sky Sports 2.
The Redknapp goal was totally insignificant. I dont know why the commentators and whoever else made a big deal of it. With 5 mins or evem more to go it was clear it was all down to Utd getting a winner at Upton Park.
Although Shearer should have buried that half volley to put us 2-1 up. What a waste of money!

Alan Shearer. He knows the club and what the fans want.

I had to laugh, just good ol’ derision & contempt, sometimes says it all, lol.
I’m probably the most recent Rovers convert on this board. I converted all the way from Texas, when I was 51 years old (I’m 60 now). I never knew the Rovers when they were Englands champs, or winning a League Cup, or playing in Europa. I never even knew them under Big Sam, Hendry, or Kean.
I chose the Rovers (or, maybe they chose me?) But, I didn’t choose them because they were champs. It’s the easiest thing in the world to choose a team that’s winning big. I didn’t fall in love with Liverpool, Arsenal, or either Manchester club. I certainly didn’t fall for Chelsea, or Tots. I’ve been to Blackburn, one day, and to Ewood, one time. Never been to burnley.
I’d like to believe we’re a much bigger club, but the reality is, Blackburn is a bigger city, with a larger stadium, more hardware, and possibly more adherents. But burnley has been in the PL 9 years, while we’ve languished in lesser divisions for a decade.
Maybe we can soon say we’re a bigger club and it won’t ring so hollow.
Interesting. Are you American or an Englishman in New York?

So Colour me stupid, but what specifically does a director of football do!?
He directs the football towards the goal. Remember Kenny Dalglish. He did a great job of it in 1995/96

Troy Parrott. Mentioned him a number of weeks ago. Scored last night for MK Dons.

We know that's not true - the Championship is nothing special.
Wycombe are drilled to within an inch of their life. It would be a shock to the system to our players if Ainsworth signs (he won't).
He can't take the Blackburn job as he is too busy holding hostages in the Nakatomi Plaza

Was in the club shop a couple of months ago and they had no home jerseys. Bit of a joke.

Hope Macron are quick to design and make the new shirts for the 22/23 season. Would make a huge change.
He's probably too busy running France

Heard today through a source close to the club Mike Tyson is taking over with Phil Bardsley as assistant. I must stress these are rumours at this point.

Glad Mowbray is going. However I am worried what dud they will appoint now and will it be another decline.
Farke, Dyche or Keane for me.

Difference being other billionaires use their clubs as a vehicle for glory, political clout, sport washing, brand development etc etc, so put their money where their mouth is… this lot? 🤷♂️
Oh contraire Rodney, oh contraire.
They are Chicken People chickening out. They do exactly as it says on the tin.

Keane was a truly great player but to say he’s mellowed is stretching things. He’s gone from being a psycho to just a nut job. Would I prefer him to Mowbray - too right. It would be an interesting 3 months.
Mellowed not mellow😂 He hasn't much tactical nous but if he got the right number 2 he could do well imo. He would get leaders in. The team lacks leaders. Lenihan and Van Hecke seem like leaders but not sure there's any more. He won the Championship before and kept Sunderland in the Premier.
The championship is awful standard. Keane is capable of doing well in it. Maybe not the Premier League but he can do well here.

That doesn’t mean the fanbase is small, it means there’s a shed load who are outside the tent after walking away over 12 years of mismanagement, so how about an ambitious appointment to help draw some back?
Its still on the small side. Even in the premier before Venkys there were only what 18,000 home fans per game (excuding away support). Hence Roy Keane as a big appoitnment as my suggestion. Sky would cover a lot of the games and the profile of the club would definitely be increased. I actually think he could do a job here and I wouldn't have been his biggest fan. He has mellowed and if he had a good tactical coach as number 2 I think promotion would be possible.

The best way to attract new fans is to win more games which is why the sole factor should be managerial ability, nothing depresses fans less than not winning matches. Roy Keane is a great pundit but it doesn't directly translate as a manager.
Who's to say he wouldnt get results? I guarantee he would get better reaults than many of the names bandied about on this thread. The only names I would take over him would be Farke and Dyche.
What did we average this season ? 12-14,000? I'd say thats small.

Becoming "box office" and raising a profile via a name generated as a playee and then as a pundit should not be considerations.
I disagree. The club has a very small fanbase and anything to generate interest and new fans and bums on seats is a good thing. The club needs a lift. More attention means more sponsorship money from shirt sponsors and others. Appointing a no name z lister is not going to inspire fans let alone players. The list of names being touted is nothing short of depressing, And its not like he is any worse than anyone on that list. He has won the championship before. For me its worth a punt.

Can we even achieve mid table Premier League status? I hate the way modern football has meant only big clubs can dream of success. The hope of winning trophies seem like something from a different stratosphere now.
-
While fans of other clubs disliked the documentary I loved it as it gave the club a lot of coverage. Gave it another watch recently. Episode 1 and 2 were great and Episode 4 mentions the fall of Rovers.
I miss the 90s.
