Valérien Ismaël: Blackburn Rovers Head Coach
Gordon Ottershaw replied to DE.'s topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I work with a Watford fan and his memories of Ismael are some stunning wins and performances as well as some dismal runs of form. Sounds very familiar but these are different circumstances, different players and a fresh club so I'm hoping for more the Barnsley version and less the West Brom. -
New manager wishlist
Gordon Ottershaw replied to Madon's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Loads of experience. A fairly uninspiring but safe 'ish'' appointment. Pretty much becoming a standard Venky managerial appointment in the mould of Mowbray and, to a lesser extent, Eustace. Nothing to get particularly excited about, Nothing to get particularly despondent about. -

Perfectly pithy and very much appreciated. -
New manager wishlist
Gordon Ottershaw replied to Madon's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Just dipped in for my daily attempt to update myself on the Managerial situation. As with the biannual transfer thread it's barely readable. From what I could glean yesterday we were having a meltdown about Karanka. For the sake of clarity and to save me wading through pages of hysterical nonsense can somebody let me know who we are having a meltdown about today? -

In my experience Rovers fans from areas East of Blackburn couldn't care less about preston. They're like Reading or Charlton. -
Being from the Accy area I have a lot of experience of Dingles. Worked with them, played Football against them, never had one as a mate. Summat not right about them. When we were enjoying our halcyon days in the mid 90s I still rejoiced when they got beat. I'd get " you're in the Prem but obsessed with us" I'd reply "I'm not obsessed, I'll just always fucking hate you."

3-1 inbreds. I'll take that, I just couldn't cope with a hammering. -
Rovers kits 24/25 season
Gordon Ottershaw replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I may have posted this last year but I think it bears repeating. Even accepting that the Issa Brrothers are only football fans to the extent that they like Liverpool, surely it shouldn't be beyond the wit of semi competent Commercial Department to pitch that a sponsorship deal with Euro Garages would be mutually beneficial for Blackburn's two pre-eminent businesses? -
There was a time when our shirt sponsors were Insutance giants who relinquished their privilege to a multi national Micro Chip producer. Now a Vape company makes way for the local place where you go when you get nicked for drink driving or want your divorce sorting. But, you know, let's be grateful to the Roa family for their careful stewardship of our club.

A few weeks after we'd won the League Cup and playing some Champaign football. Not many would have predicted our fall from grace at that point. -

I looked up the Fulham home game from 2002 as I needed the date and remembered being at Ewood that day. Just look at that attendance! It actually makes me feel quite sad. -
Venky’s & Waggott Out Protest Ideas
Gordon Ottershaw replied to DuffsLeftPeg's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I've supported the club since 1975. It's been a massive part of my life but but early this season I decided to turn my back on it. At my age you don't want things in your life that make you angry and upset. You cut those things out of your life if you can so I did. I live overseas but was home earlier this year. I didn't want to go to Ewood but went to spend the day with my mates. I saw the Norwich, Millwall and Plymouth games. Awful, just awful. Such a terrible atmosphere at Ewood, so depressing. I don't blame the current manager, he's clearly limited but what can he do with that shower and a dysfunctional club? Ultimately we stayed up by virtue of a freak result. Were Leicester at it? If they weren't then we have that to thank for our undeserved survival. I have a horrible feeling of foreboding about the club's future. I believe next season will be catastrophic. I might check in around October to see if my worst fears are being confirmed. Otherwise life is too short to be made sad and depressed by a football club. Fuck Venkys, utter scum. -
Alan "Birdy" Birkbeck - RIP
Gordon Ottershaw replied to Herbie6590's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I migrated to Australia in 2009 and was delighted when, a few years later, Rovers took part in a pre season tournament in Sydney. I felt quite pleased with myself having flown to watch Rovers from my new home in Adelaide but hubris deflated my ego when I saw Birdy and his Mrs strolling around Circular Quay! Amazing! A true 'Super Fan'. R.I.P.- 86 replies

Adelaide based here. I'm trying to wean myself of Rovers though as as following the club makes me sad and angry. Life is too short. -
23/24 kit; is a new sponsor needed?
Gordon Ottershaw replied to alex l's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I wonder if our Commercial Department got on the blower to Autolab? It's a Blackburn company which, apparently, supplies high end vehicles to Footballers. It would seem like a good fit and nothing like as cringe as a Vaping company. -

Gordon Ottershaw replied to alex l's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I certainly don't want Rovers to go cap in hand to the Issa brothers but is it beyond the club to sell them a mutually beneficial commercial partnership on the basis that their various businesses and Rovers are Blackburn based entities with a national profile? Apparently it is. This sponsorship is very disappointing. I'm sceptical about the anti vaping propaganda but I just feel that vaping is poorly regarded and percieved which reflects negatively on the club. Such a poxy logo that looks terrible on our shirt too.
