It's probably better to ask Armstrong, Brereton and Szmodics what his contribution has been. If we can get £1.5 million for him, he has to go if he's no intention of signing a new contract. Replacing his goals alone shouldn't be a problem, replacing his overall contribution to the team and the overall scoring record of the forward line might prove more difficult. Will you be claiming you were right if the replacement scores 7 or 8,but nobody else reaches double figures? I sincerely hope you are right and we stay up comfortably, but I do fear trying to replace both him and Szmodics at the same time will be a big ask.

My most compelling arguments for keeping Gallagher are that by now he should be paid for, and his partners over the past 5 years have scored bucket loads.

We won't get enough to replace him, I was actually hoping he'd have his contract extended. If as expected, we're looking to rely on the younger forwards more, he would have been a tried and tested experienced head to partner any young player on the pitch.

How much is the release clause?

Agreed £20 million is nuts, £6 million obviously isn't enough. Like you say, a fair price could be reached if it's handled properly, which is the stumbling block.

It's a good idea if the fee is set correctly. The main problem is if Rovers are asking too much and price Szmodics out of his dream move to the Prem,that situation is never going to end well.

It's a good idea because the club and player agree the fee between them, therefore any sale SHOULD suit both parties.

What I would say is that if, as reported, the club negotiated a release clause anywhere near that when he extended his contract, it's a good job they did. If he hadn't extended and a clause inserted , we would most certainly be over a much bigger barrel now after the season he had. It's also a case of how high a release clause Szmodics and his reps would agree to.

I might yet be proven wrong, but I just can't see us signing one. Whether I'm comfortable with it or not is a different matter. I'd certainly be more comfortable with it than a lot on here. I think he's adequate, and being young for a keeper means there's room for improvement, look at Steele. I said weeks ago that if he starts as first choice it will be because Eustace wants him, same as Tomasson wanted him as first choice. A few had trouble accepting Tomasson's decision, no doubt we'll see the same happen again if we don't sign anybody.
