And in that spell up to November he had 5 assists and a goal - certainly not breath taking but certainly not awful either. Then his form fell off a cliff like many others in the team and he certainly looked his age the coming months no doubt about that at all my point really is he’s 20 and I feel you pretty much writing off his career at that age is quite laughable really. Hirst wasn’t great is one of the biggest understatements iv read. He contributed zero to rovers absolutely zero that’s why he barely got starts/minutes and when he did he did nothing we even gave him a penalty to get him going and that didn’t work. Some players for some clubs just don’t work is my main point Hirst took a bashing on here most laughed when Ipswich signed him and it’s worked out tyler Morton took a bashing on here and hill fans loved him not saying the players aren’t right to take a bashing based on performance for rovers but I wouldn’t go writing off careers

Personal preference wouldnt be with dembele having said that some players flourish in different surroundings or under different management particularly ones they have worked with before. Again I’d like to see us explore different options and not the usual suspects but if we were to get him I wouldn’t be gutted either

Kamara was this summer pope 2022 the fundamental point is that age is a massssive factor which fans don’t seem to appreciate if Sammie had top level experience and it didn’t work out and came to rovers and did what he’s done then the 12 up front plus add ons would be realistic but he hasn’t the highest he has played is championship level he’s 29 next month there were no other clubs in for him and he wanted to explore the opportunity to play ( in his own words) so with all that considered I’m not sure how fans can be up in arms with the fee what we do with the money is a completely different topic but the fee is fair

You get what you pay for - never really fully got behind this saying in football terms. Some players just need a chance Seamus coleman vardy mahrez gestede to name off the top of my head not for one second comparing these lads to the above and I’m well aware there have been plenty of duds but to write them off after two games is very silly based on their price tag

Your price inflation argument doesn’t really work considering Iv covered 10/15 years right up to this and last season and there’s little to no change in the prices secondly ONE team was in for him that tells its own story - no bidding wars just one live interest from the prem league Brighton paid 40mill for Rutter best recruitment team in England why not go for szmodics? So it simply just doesn’t stack up people saying he’s worth 15-20million given he’s no top flight experience anywhere is 29 next month and had one good season wish him well though

Firstly to make it clear I don’t trust venkys/waggott to do anything remotely positive with any money we have had this last while so this isn’t in their defence at all. But I’ve been seeing a lot of posts saying the fee is way too low. Here’s a list of transfers with similar age profiles from the champ Jay Rodriguez 29 wba to Burnley 10mill Leo Ulloa 28 Brighton to Leicester 10mill Glen kamara 28 Leeds to Rennes 10mill Nick pope 30 Burnley to n’castle 11.5mill Samba 29 us to Anzhi 11.5mill Ross McCormack 27 Leeds to Fulham 11.8 mill Nacir chadli 29 wba to Monaco 12mill Chuba akpom 27 boro to Ajax 12.5mill Exceptions Callum Wilson 28 Bournemouth to Newcastle 22.5mill - proven premier league experience eng cap Ward prowse 28 saints to West Ham 34mill - proven premier league player eng cap Salamon rondon 29 Newcastle to dalian 18.5mill - proven top flight/league experience McCormack again 29 Fulham to Villa 14mill consistent goal scoring seasons as you can see above age and value absolutely matter and given he has no previous premier league or top league experience and has had one wonder season the reported 10million I feel is fair. in an ideal world multiple clubs would have been interested and a bit of a bidding war would have commenced to get it up to around 12/13/14 but never happened

I think Ipswich is a good fit for him playing style and time will tell if they have enough to stay up or not but certainly signing players to give themselves a good chance itl be down to McKenna if he does a kompany and refuses to change his tactics in the prem particularly away from home and against the ‘big boys’ they will be found out but I think he’s way better than kompany and won’t be as gung ho

As Iv stated many times but been slated for saying it player age is massive And to add to that szmodics has only had one good season - a wonder season at that no history of playing at a higher level either he’s a risky buy - but I think given his personality and how he conducts himself and plays he will do just fine
