Those believing Wharton should move to a top 6 club are wrong. Too many young players end up on the bench and as such are overlooked for the England team. Being a Crystal Palace player ensures the player is regularly playing. Proof is in the pudding as Crystal Palace have the most representation in the England squad for the euros. Wharton will be a massive player for Palace for the next few years, there’s no reason why the team can’t push for a European place.

You sound bitter. There was no ‘closed’ market - anyone could have offered more money. Also, he was a championship player so unproven at the highest level. That affects the price. I guarantee he will be with us for at least 3 years + he doesn’t need to move on for international recognition as witnessed by the England call up. Too many players fancy a big move and end up being a squad player for the big 6 clubs. Wharton will undoubtedly know this. We will pay him what he’s worth.

As a Crystal Palace fan I just want to say what a fantastic player we’ve bought from you guys. He just does the basics so well. Control, passing, tackling etc… nothing outrageous but just so consistent. He covers the pitch very well and is very disciplined in his positioning. Well ahead of his age. He stepped up to the team because we had a number of injuries in that position and he’s gone from strength to strength. I honestly hope he stays with us for many years and we can get some sort of success - cup or European place.
