  1. Not arguing over those three, but Ronnie and duggie?
  2. I only said this century because I was trying to narrow it down a bit. It's just arbitrary to make it easier. I didn't see emerton against wolves but apparently that was a good un
  3. I was just stood here idly pioneering this one. From the last twenty of years, what has been the individual performance in a match by a rovers player I've liked best Funnily enough the last thirteen years didn't figure in my considerations. There was one stand-out performance that I really loved, but first two honourable mentions. Friedel in the cup final, the man was just a wall that day. Secondly hakan Suker against Fulham, the man was just different gravy, a centre forward masterclass. But the one I've liked best... Was mcateer playing at turf moor. Good lord, he was bloody everywhere that day. Just immense. There'll be a ton that I've missed, so interested to hear what others think.
  4. Before my time but how about that blacklaw fella? Friedel was an amazing keeper, and I'm not disputing he was the best, but I'm just interested is all. I'm the end, it doesn't really matter who was the best
  5. Just checked Google maps, it's a six hour drive. I should imagine in an mg that's not totally comfy. Running a hotel as well, you'd think he went up and back in a day?
  6. https://www.waterstones.com/book/black-arrows-blue-diamonds/brian-mercer/9781526796813 Learn something new every day
  7. Oh, I forgot to mention, he loved a pie from lever's as well
  8. Yeah, funnily enough there's a story on his book about that as well. He wasn't too keen on the football league I would say. This is the funny bit, he got a yellow and the ref got his yellow out and showed it to all four corners of the ground in turn. Waggy commented to him that that was jolly silly as it would upset the crowd. At which point he got booked again and sent off 😂 Funnily enough, he showed the red to all four corners as well Also mentioned was squadron leader Joe mercer, who travelled to every rovers away game from Newquay. Blimey must've cost a packet
  9. Some clips of him here for wolves. still no idea on who smigga was. Mauve bobby svarc? I found out from his wiki page, he was name checked in a half man half biscuit song
  10. I had waggys tales delivered at the weekend. David wagstaffe is the author. Somewhat limited interest as it's mainly wolves, but there's some good rovers stuff in there and it only cost three quid. When he signed for rovers he bought a guest house in Blackpool to run, Jack walker have him some steel at a good price to do an extension. When he turned up to sign he was shocked to discover Jim smiths office was the upstairs bedroom of a house opposite the stadium He refers to Wh Bancroft as Billy Bancroft. He used to come off at full time and Billy would hand him a lit fag There's a story about a striker, well it is seventies football Then there's this hysterical story about how after training the players were due to have a team meeting in the dressing room. Stuart metcalfe turns up late with everyone's chip shop order.etcalfe is referred to as Mecca by waggy. There's another player called smigga no idea who that is. Jim Smith does his nut. So funny
  11. Yeah nothing changes unless the owners do, so it's just pie in the sky. We're not getting promoted while they're here, I'm sure of that. What changes you make to a football club that's been hollowed out and losers money hand over fist...I guess you go for promotion then run the club on a shoestring, get spanked every week and try to offset the losses?
  12. No shot of the manager welcoming him to Ewood?
  13. If you're gonna go, beggar off now mate, or else you gotta stay all season.
  14. Yeah, that hurts to read that. Imagine a child having to go through that, particularly with no pain relief. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
  15. Amazing you see that Graeme is swimming the channel to raise awareness for DEBRA and particularly Isla. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-65664357 I can't imagine how difficult it must be to live with that.
  16. It does seem a bit of an unstructured approach. "Hey, how about asking an ex player about who we should employ as manager?". Can't imagine the walker trust going over John Williams' head and ringing up Simon garner for advice on who to hire. But then again John Williams was a sharp operator who didn't look like Peter Kay's stunt double who got dressed in the dark after a real heavy night. So, yeah, fucking bizarre. Off it the worst thing they've done? No. Not by an extremely long chalk
  17. It was back Dack or crack We cracked Struggling to see why, but not much about this club makes sense. All the best, Bradley
  18. As a going concern, bugger all as things stand. How would you like to buy a business that loses £20m/year?
  19. I do remember the game but I don't remember the goals. Bolton were threatening to catch us and I think that put them in their place. Not only did we spank them, we properly outplayed them too. Great days
  20. I seem to remember him knocking in a belting free kick
  21. I would absolutely agree that this summer is pivotal. Let's see where we are come early August and reassess.
  22. I think the origins of this are the owners. No ambition other than vague mention of a "project". It's balls, it's absolute bloody balls. The way this club is set up with so many people on easy Street, we'll never be successful. I tell you what the project should be. Never take a backward step, let no one outwork you, be second to no one when it comes to hard work, preparation, application and belief. Never give anything up, and if you go down, go down fighting. Instead we get all this cobblers about journeys and projects. It's just displacement talk, deferring actually achieving anything to some unspecified future point. It saps the life out of people, ruins morale and ensures you'll stay stuck where you are
  23. Full disclosure: I didn't see the game yesterday. I wasn't even keeping up with the live scores to be honest. But I do get the feeling we're scared of success. The minute we're in a position that there's no chance of success, we turn it on. It was the same when Bowyer was here.
