Enjoyed it, well worth watching. Definitely OTT but come on, Temple of Doom was hardly realistic stuff was it. Also thought Ford became more Indy like as the film wore on. Didn't look quite right at the start. Plenty of (not very well) hidden cross references to other movies as well.

Whilst I don't think Shilito's argument stacks up, I think you're missing the general point here Rover6. When Souness took over Rovers none of us were sure what to expect and I think the majority were a little concerned about the appointment. After the first couple of months it became clear we had a new type of Souness, a calmer, more laid back approach for a start. It seemed we had a man who had learned from his managerial mistakes. He gave everyone at the club a chance, quickly recognised who had the talent and who didn't regardless of transfer fees and egos. The following season they way he managed the club from kicking out the dead wood and bringing in new players to the weekly task of picking the team, formations and tactics was nothing short of faultless. Let's not forget the number of games he left Jansen on the bench to give him a "kick up the arse" as he put it. Or the way he ruthlessly axed John Filan and replaced him with premier league "flop" Brad Friedel. Berkovic allowed us to switch formation to 5 across the middle and for me the signing of Bent (who scored the most vital goals in the big games) was the icing on the cake. Regardless of the years to follow, at the end of the season we had not only a new squad which was good enough to gain promotion to the premierleague, but we had a spine of a team that would be able to compete in it. Mistakes followed (anyone fancy an Italian?) and sometime in the 2002/3 season there were signs of the old Souness returning, but that's why football is a series of chapters, all of which have an ending. For me, that promotion season was one of the most enjoyable years in the 20+ years I've been following Rovers. And as Souness was the man at the healm, I won't say a bad word about the guy. And I think that's the feeling of most Rovers fans who were there and experienced it, and that's something you don't understand.

Isn't Colin pointing out that this guy's comments are spot on? Thought it was very funny -
I am Legend = I am a 28 days later Legend but with crap CGI instead of scarey zombies I thought it was ok. Like most of these type of films they start well and I was fully gripped wanting to know how it all happened but as usual the special effects take over and the suspense is lost as the plot falls apart. Will Smith does his best to play a disturbed man but there's too much pointless script in there to keep him cool and very Will Smith like. I guess if it ain't broke don't fix it. I Robot (his last big action blockbuster?) was far far better as a movie. Not read either book

It's a good point though and rightly brought back up. He was playing very well early season with Savage without being spectacular. Wasn't trying to go past players but playing some great forward passes as well as tidying up in a Tugay style roll. Lately he seems to have gone back to David Dunn mark 1.2 (mark 1.1 had some pace) and trying to do too much, taking on too many players and running into trouble. I like him though as he does try and be creative. He lacks that athletic build that most prem league midfielders seem to have these days but with the right player alongside him I think he has more than enough talent to be an asset to us. As for when we bought him, we didn't have much choice as Birmingham would have sold him to Bolton in Jan and for the sake of his career Dunn wasn't going to hang around at Big Club for any longer. Verict: Yes, right decision -
Fantastic stuff Oz and I can't wait for the rest. Don't often visit this section so must remember to do so more in future. This was my first season watching Rovers and as a 7 year old I don't remember much about the play, or the goals, but I do remember going to the games. Leeds on Boxing Day stands out as I remember my Grandad (from Leeds) coming along with us and we sat in the "posh seats" in the Nuttall St stand. I'm sure Colin Randall scored an overhead kick and a very old Peter Lorimer was playing as well. I got a home Rovers shirt that season and got my mum to sew a number 7 on the back as my favourite player was Ian Miller. It worries me now that my childhood hero was a ginger bloke with a tash!

4 points behind Liverpool still as well...... I was always behind Souness, right up until the last season that is. He first couple of years he managed to get rid of dead wood , nuture our more talented players (Dunn, Duff, Jansen) and bring in some good experienced players for great value (Friedel, Tugay, Berg). He then brought in some good young blood when he signed Neill and Thompson. At the end of 2002/03 season we had a great squad. Then he fell out with Dunn, Yorke, and things started to go wrong. This is when the romance ended. The thing is we have a much better squad of players now than we had at the start of the 2004/05 season. Souness failed to replace aging players (Berg, Short, Flitcroft), sold our better players (Duff, Dunn, Cole) and although some of the players he brought in had talent, he also failed to nurture that talent. Reid, Emerton and Thompson spring to mind here. Hughes now has that test upon him where he may have to deal with unrest in the dressing room. But I'm willing to bet that he handles it a lot better than Souness did, and we finish this season a better team than the last one.

Not true. Hard working, tracks back well, excellent timing runs into the box, ability in the air gave full backs a torrid time defending cross field passes, 2 good feet, close control, great shot. I've just listed the aspects of his game which have remained consistant up to this point. His set pieces have always been inconsistent, as has his ability to play a killer ball or take on his man. But now, it all seems to be going to pot. For me it all seems to have stemmed from that miss in the Semi Final against Chelsea. He's now struggling from a mental point of view and needs help. And it's up to Hughes to get the best from him again. Whether that's performances on the pitch or ££££ in January. Either way it can't carry on.

A few weeks ago we played Liverpool, didn't win, but made the whole of Blackburn feel proud. It was a great performance, both technically and passionately, and had pretty much summed up how far we'd come under Hughes and what we had achieved. In 2004, Hughes came in and inherited a very poor side, and a pretty poor squad overall. In 18 months he had transformed us, and made us in to a top eight side. We then lost the catalyst in Bellamy, and Reid who had arguably been our best midfielder. It made things tough for a while, but other fringe players came good (most notably Bentley) and Hughes again did wonders in the transfer market in January. We started this season with out best squad in around 5 years. We had a great start to the season, but we've come off the rails a bit. I do hope there isn't unrest within the camp but if there is, he must deal with it straight away. We have players off form, some low in confidence, and others not fully fit from injury. The transfer window is just round the corner and there's no doubt that we'll strengthen. There's no point picking out individual players at the moment, all bar 1 are playing crap. Let's rest the tired ones, sack the troublesome ones, and tighten up at the back. A couple of clean sheets and then we'll wonder what all the fuss was about.

When were the other times?

I was at the game and thought McCarthy played terrible, worst game I've seen him play. Terry had him in his pocket. He was still trying though, and saw enough of the ball. Was clearly frustrated as well as he kept messing things up.
-
No, he repaid us with 20 odd goals scored in a season. If he goes he will also bring in more cash than his transfer fee and season´s wages cost us. He´s under contract and Rovers have made it clear he´s not for sale. So he´s being stupid and answering press questions because his angent has told him it´s the best way of getting a move for more money. or even more likely, get a new contract at Rovers with more money.

My God! One report from a red top without quotes and you're already slagging him off!!!!! Link needed to Extras series 2 when Andy "assaults Down Syndrome kid and his mother in restaurant rage" "But it must be true, it's written...."

One of the more honest interviews you will ever hear. Would liked to have heard more stories about his earlier years. It does sound a bit like he's almost shocked at the way the team is now run under Hughes than it was under Souness. Almost like he misses the "old days" with Flitty and the lads. Of course it just means he knows how hard he has to work under this regime. Poor Birmingham. Don't sound like a good club at all. Still, they got promoted so I guess we'll see next year. Here's to Dunny, a true Blackburn fan -
So what? If any of the 4 champions league clubs want our players then they have the power to get them. Any player under contract though, with the new tv deal, will cost them a fortune. If we don't get at least £10m for Benni, then why would Hughes sell him? (assuming, maybe stupid, no release clause) Who's going to buy him for that much? Chelsea? Just let a bidding war commence then.

Don't think ManUre will be looking for a goal poacher. Under RFW they've always played their best football with a good creative workhorse front man and lots of goal scorers coming in from midfield. The only exception is funnily enough the striker who looked like a horse, who while banging loads of goals in the team overall got weaker (not his fault) and I don't think they'll go back to the goal poacher. Saha and Smith can lead the line pretty well, so someone in that mould but a lot better would fit the bit. Definitely Berbatov more than McCarthy. He's also unlikely to be willing to sit on the bench as the replacement for the baby faced assasin. So big now are the big four that you only need to worry if you have a truly outstanding player would walk into their first team. Otherwise they have to be young enough to be "bedded in" or a bit past their best and happy to rotate off the bench (Laarson, Fowler). I don't think Benni quite fits this discription. Bentley on the other hand.....

Jamie Redknap was awful yesterday on Sky. Spent the whole of half time moaning that the Israel defender hadn't been sent off instead of slating the Enlgand performance. Hansen is still the best pundit after all these years. With prob Andy Gray next. Of the commentators Jonathon Pearce is by far the best, and Clive Tyldsley the worst of a bad lot. -
Why? explain Great player, will only get better under Hughes. Why would we want to sell at all?

It's a 1 million pound gamble, and on his day he's a match winner. Certainly not worth getting more and more angry about -
I'm willing to give Benitez the doubt and assume he wanted Lucas as back up only, and a reliable utility player. If he really wanted him surely they would have paid up. Don't tell me Steven Gerrard didn't move to Chelsea because of his loyalty to Liverpool.... How's his WAG going to feel when they're sunning themselves on the Cote d'Azur this summer and Frank Lampard sails up on his yacht? "What's the matter Stevie, not got yourself one of these yet? You're a better player than me too."

Lucas Neill, what a guy.. what a captain!!! Not fit to where the shirt blah blah

It's a sell out

Lathund you are absolutely correct, although I would say your points support the argument that there are less gifted "footballers" making it in the UK as opposed to talented Athletes being moulded into football stars. I actually think things will only get worse, as we are already seeing exceptional footballers disappearing at an early age due to their lack of physical presence. Managers just won't take a gamble on them. Might be poor examples (as I'm not sure about their attitude in training) but 2 of our players we have now, Gallagher and Jeffers spring to mind here. These days I wouldn't be surprised if a premier league scout watching a young Duff or Sheringham would dismiss them as being too lightweight or too slow respectively for the attacking players they need to be.

As much as anything else it's the buzz you get during the build up to the game. I don't get back to Blackburn much but the main thing I miss is those Saturday afternoons. Meeting good friends and blokes you only see at the footy in the Fox n Hounds around 1pm. A good chat and a moan usually followed by a sing song. But, as soon as 2:30 approaches the beer is forgotten and all attention turns to the game. For me I don't know how people can do the first bit but then stay in the pub to watch it on Al Jaseer (or whatever) knowing the game is going on only a few hundred yards away.
