  1. Yeah, dumb footballers make dumb mistakes.
  2. That must be another Gallagher that I haven't seen play. The one I saw play was big but powerful he wasn't, and he couldn't head the ball.
  3. I just read he's on £24k a week at Southampton ! Football is a mad world. You'd think he could afford a personal trainer and some Guinness and steak on that sort of money.
  4. Average pace for a striker, he wasn't rapid by any means.
  5. I can see the sense in what you're saying. As far as I saw he didn't really get a running chance. He was playing with his back to goal most of the time.
  6. Gallagher may be " mobile and quick " but will he be able to hold the ball up ? I thought he was a lightweight when I saw him play. I agree with the other poster regarding his heading ability. Another one in the long list of 6' 1" players who jumped 5' 10". I was hoping we could do better to be honest. Maybe other teams aren't interested in our magic beans. I think we can infer from the players we've been linked with that there is no real money coming from the Chicken Chokers.
  7. Looks like Leeds didn't rate him either and that's the level we're playing at now. The lad had no pace and no strength, he didn't really have a trick in him. He ran around a lot but to no great effect, I don't think I ever saw him win the ball in a one on one challenge with a defender. He was a decent finisher but didn't contribute much to team play. I'm relieved he's not coming back.
  8. I don't watch the Prem much any more so I haven't seen a lot of Harry Kane. I thought he started the competition well enough but the longer it went on the worse he got. From what I saw he's nowhere near a World class player. He's just not dynamic enough. I think his success in the Prem says a lot about the standard of football in the Prem. Having said that he didn't get much service from the rest of the team. I also thought he was a strange choice as team captain. I suppose the thinking was he was the one certain starter in the team at the beginning of the tournament. That says a lot about the rest of the team.
  9. I hope both you and rovers go on for many more years Shaun. In the case of the club as long as the Chicken Chokers are in charge we'll remain in the intensive care ward.
  10. Hand on heart I didn't think all the ball was over the line at the time.
  11. No, of course not, sorry about that.
  12. Last season we were playing for the very survival of the club. Another bad season and who knows we're we would be now. England can go again next time and the time after etc for ever. You need to get a sense of perspective. It's a game. In 1966 we didn't a week off work after the Final. It was old news on the Monday and we got on with normal life pretty quickly. We seem to make a massive deal out of everything these days. I look at like this, what would you prefer - those kids in Thailand getting out of that cave or England winning the World Cup ? If they'd have died that would have been a tragedy. England losing to Croatia at football ? Come on, it's a bloody game.
  13. No contest, I've seen us win the World Cup before. We need to be back in the big money ASAP.
  14. That's because I watch both teams, not just the one in blue and white. I praise Rovers and the playing staff when they deserve it. I gave Dack , Raya, Bennett, Lenihan etc plenty of praise. In that Wigan v City game Wigan defended like their lives depended on it. They nilled a team that had scored goals for fun against the best in this country and in Europe last season. We struggled to keep a clean sheet against teams that got relegated. Give credit where credit's due. If you only watch one team in a game you'll never really learn anything about football. How did we go on in the FA Cup ? Just remind me.
  15. Not a thing. Is he any better than Downing or Williams ? All that says to me is our " War Chest " looks like being a handful of magic beans.
  16. Yeah, it's like all those footballers we called tossers until they pulled on a Rovers shirt, The Bellamy's, Dickov's, Savage's of this world. They were all great then ! Don't your personal prejudices cloud your judgement when you're looking at football players and managers.
  17. So is Ronaldo but I don't let that get in the way of my judgement of him as a great footballer. Maybe Cook has something to be arrogant about. I watched them beat City in the FACup last season, Rovers couldn't have done that.
  18. Like him or loathe him Cook's a good manager at this level. He'll keep them up no problem.
  19. Wigan won't go down just as long as Cook is their manager.
  20. He needed to think on his feet in the second half last night and he didn't. We had no real plan " B " he was just swapping like for like. I'm a bit harder to please when it comes to football.
  21. Bringing on Delph for Alli would have entailed a change in formation as far as I can see.
  22. I'd mixed emotions to a certain extent. Me and a pal had seen West Germany absolutely thrash a decent Swiss team in their first match so we scraped together a £10 to put on West Germany at 10 to 1. Beckenbauer was awesome that day, that's still one of the best midfield performances I've ever seen. They were a very good side and England were pretty poor in the early game. Bearing in mind my weekly wages as an apprentice then were £5-5-0 a week we had a lot riding on the Final. It was win - win really. People took things in their stride in those days. We all used to meet up at a local snooker hall before going on the usual Saturday night pub crawl around town. We were all amateur players then but we only spent about an hour talking about the game and then it was on to the usual subjects of beer , women, and where we were going next. On the Sunday afternoon we met up for the usual 3 hr game of football ( first to 20 goals wins ) and the Final was hardly mentioned !
  23. I thought we should have reverted to a back four when they started getting on top after about 50 minutes. Not many teams can try to defend the last third for 30 odd minutes and survive. You certainly can't defend the penalty area for that amount of time unless you're very, very lucky.
  24. The scorer took the chance well but it came from a comedy of errors by England and a pretty fortuitous header.
