  1. They wouldn't even serve us in a few pubs on the UEFA trip. None of us had colours on, simply an English accent. I doubt it would be as bad for a friendly mind!
  2. Andy Cryer? Christ he was a bitter Bristol City fan who had a right paddy if he was ever questioned on anything. Peter White though, now we're talking. Grew up reading that chaps fantastic reporting RIP.
  3. Ainsworth is the 2nd longest serving manager in England, Warne is the 6th. Coming up to 10 years in Sept for Ainsworth and 6 for Warne in November. Both done great jobs at their respective clubs, I do wonder if they've had offers elsewhere though, and if not why not? Or are they both just super loyal? Both coming up to 50 years old so not complete rookies in the managerial game by any means. Both worked on a complete shoestring budget before and whilst we're not exactly rolling in it, they'd definitely have a bit more to spend. But is that even a factor if we're getting this brand spanking new DOF in? Their contacts in the game might not be all that, but again we'll have the DOF for that right? Almost all successful managers in history cut their teeth at a slightly lower level before making the step up to be fair. Both are gambles but it's fair to say that applies to whoever we appoint. Farke was my first choice, wasn't as keen on Carvalhal but would have been OK with him. I'd prefer either Ainsworth or Warne over Ferguson 100%.
  4. It'll be a name that hasn't been mentioned previously, probably someone shite and they'll last maybe a year at the most. If any of the above is inaccurate I'd be amazed and pleasantly surprised.
  5. For perspective - Skybet still have Carvalhal listed, Farke was still there yesterday too. Not exactly the most reactive bookie out there, the odds will automatically alter as soon as a few fivers go down. That said, I wouldn't be against Warne.
  6. Ayala would make a captain, but only if he ups his game count. Can't see someone like Ferguson wrapping him up in cotton wool and being as soft as Mowbray was. All depends who the new manager is though, might get someone equally as soft.
  7. Someone on twitter said they'd seen him in a supermarket round here. I'm not even joking.
  8. Yep I'd take him tbh. Might help transform Gallagher into a lethal striker....
  9. Tomasson seemingly did well at Malmo, but how much of a challenge is the Allsvenskan. Malmo always seem to be there or thereabouts with the likes of AIK around them.
  10. The longer it drags on, the less likely ANYONE could get us promoted. This pre season is even more critical than ever. A new gaffer needs to come in and assess the current crop of players first, then fill numerous gaps. We already know how slow our transfer activity is from past experience. If we're still scratching our heads at this time next week regarding a new manager we really are up shit creek I'm afraid.
  11. Can I just point out Les Ferdinand has been DOF at QPR since 2015, before we cream our pants too much. Within that time have they really progressed light years beyond us?
  12. I think most fans would get right behind Ainsworth, especially with some of the other names being linked. I doubt he'd be too many peoples #1 choice though. Wheres this Woodgate idea even come from? Purely because of the Boro link? On a side note, we might not like admitting it but Blackpool are probably fishing in the same managerial pond as us right now, if we piss about too much someone like Ainsworth might get snapped up. Of course he'd rather come here you'd have thought but if the offer ain't on the table...
  13. I don't think we should be dismissing Farke just yet. All we've heard is about alleged 'advance talks' with BM. We've heard the same about Kompany with that lot up the road and he's still not their manager. Until its signed and sealed there's a bit of hope. Schalke newly promoted and like Ausburg will be around the bottom of the league so both tough jobs.
  14. Well first of all we aren't a 'proper run club'. Villa are on with their transfer business too, we can only dream of that. Secondly it won't have been 24 hours, they clearly spoke to Critchley at the same time QPR had been having talks with Beale. Thirdly it's an assistant manager post, not the same thing. Last but not least money isn't really an object to Villa.
  15. There was never going to be an update anyway over the Bank Holiday, that much was clear. Sharpes 'update' was put out purely because its his job, I'm pretty sure he's no idea whats going on anyway.
  16. I mean that's Newcastle fans for ya, he even won manager of the year there and took them on a fine European campaign. Granted he also had a Mowbray esque post Xmas collapse one season too. His time at West Brom and beyond have been shite though and he wouldn't be on my shortlist. There's no reason to even be discussing him though unless you believe a nonsense rumour from someone on here with a 0% track record of getting anything right from his 'sources' 🤣
  17. As soon as I saw the Pardew news earlier I knew some goon would post 'info' that we wanted him 🤣 Imagine my surprise to see it happen, I didn't expect it to have been posted THIS soon though. Waggott will have his union jack bow tie and bowler hat on now and will be doing Jack shit till next week so it's probably best if people don't read this thread for a few days, unless of course you have a keen interest in bullshit 😉
  18. Ah but don't forget to factor this in..... Candidate walks in for their interview to be met by Waggott sat there. Looking like he's about to try and sell someone a 13 year old Ford Fiesta. His tie is badly fastened as the collar of his ill fitting shirt strains under severe pressure. The room smells a bit funny, he's clearly been sat there farting out last nights chicken jalfrezi for the past hour. He reaches out with a swear riddled palm to shake said candidates hand. "Hi I'm Steve pleased to meet you, I take care of the day to day running of the club". Steve asks a handful of questions he's pulled off Google, none really relating to being a football manager. Then as the interview is getting wrapped up he asks the candidate do they have any questions to ask him about the role. Imagine the absolute guff that follows! Candidate at this point thinks "fuck that". End result is we end up with someone a bit desperate. They're either not qualified for the role as they've never managed before, or they've been out of work for a while and getting bored of the golf course. That in a nutshell is exactly the situation we're in if you ask me, I'd love to be wrong but.....
  19. OK a 15 minute taxi ride is close enough for me but each to their own. There's loads more under 200 quid too but ill leave you to it
  20. That's just a few, there'll be more
  21. There's plenty of hotels <£100 a short distance from the centre unless you're particularly picky
  22. Not sure if tongue in cheek but he fell out big time with the board at Marseilles because of them signing players against his wishes, doesn't exactly lend itself to the Venkys DOF dream
  23. Well Sharpe's pretty adamant on a few things in that report, which is quite unlike him....... Has Mark Fotheringham been mentioned at all in relation to our job? Said he wants to manage an English club in recent reports.....cheap, contract at Hertha expired - some boxes being ticked and I bet he's applied. Xabi Alonso? Recently left Real Sociedad B and has a promotion on his CV.
  24. SV Lippstadt 08 certainly weren't rolling in cash when he took them up a few divisions 🤣 He signed players like Krul and Pukki on free transfers for Norwich, plenty of loan deals and various youth players promoted. Of course he made a few signings, an open chequebook he most certainly did not have though!
