  1. I see the Dutch legend Johan Neeskens died yesterday, he was one of my favourite ever footballers Growing up at a time when England were absent from the World Cup for 12 years, as a kid in 74 and 78 supported the Dutch. He was just behind Cruyff in talent for me, ably supported by Kroll, Rensenbrink, Rep etc.. RIP
  2. What a night ? I was in Munich the other week with my son for a few days, visited the stadium and Olympic park, very advanced design when you think it was built over 50 years ago. That area must have been carnage with circa 9,000 England fans there at that time when trouble abroad was rife?
  3. My son supports Oxford, (rovers his 2nd team) so I have seen them live a lot over last couple of years Bright young well prepared manager, Cam Brannagan best player, defence strong but right back a weakness if Long plays there, press well up top led by Harris, pass the ball well and work hard So wont be easy, however if they concede early away from home they can be vulnerable Play same system as us, Vauks looked good v Norwich so they are a possession based team Also good in the air at set pieces We should be stronger but will need to take them seriously
  4. My son supports Oxford so took him to last week's game Rovers rejects were both slow, however they are a tall team and our set piece defending is not great!
  5. Thanks for that you learn something everyday
  6. Have the Rao family gone yet? Countdown on they need to do one fast
  7. That was the season after we came up with Grimsby and Sheff Weds and missed out last game at Bristol Rovers Jim Arnold was a great keeper
  8. When you cast your mind back to FA Cup quarter final v Sheff Utd last season and winning at Millwall last game of the season it is crazy we are in this position as a football club We were playing very attractive football and had young talent coming through Now we need Norwich a side we battered at their ground earlier in the season and Sunderland ditto to do us a favour The owners and people at the top should hang their heads in shame I just hope we stay up and bury this season in the confines of history never to be repeated Rao family need to sell up and bring in people who care, know what they are doing and bring back pride
  9. That was a game / day out. Was in the cricket field stand behind the goal as the away end was full. As Garner scored a lot of jumping up, row behind me was a rovers fan who got attacked before police intervened. They could not reach me and my brother Coach from Waterside I was meant to be on got put in the bee hive end as away end full, fighting erupted and they were marched around the pitch to the away end fighting anyone on the front row of the Bob Lord on the journey Crazy to think police put you in home stands if away stands full...1977 did not go as too young but my brothers went , I think we were 3 nil up at HT, brother had his scarf nicked outside the ground, sensibly did not chase the guy who took it
  10. That was good to know his Grandson was there and the physio.
  11. Agree Good to see Capt. Sherwood and Big Al there as representatives, I believe he requested a member of Jack Walker's family but unsure how that played out
  12. Yes my Dad took my Mum to that she said she was scared She boycotted for over a decade Her next game afterwards was the Div 3 end of season clash night clash in 79/80 May v Sheff Wednesday we lost 1 nil I think, just before we took 8k away to Bury
  13. Mistakes happen, happy to wait for the ling sleeve Thanks for sorting
