[Archived] Emerton At Rb
Brownie replied to -foreverrovers-'s topic in Football Messageboard Archive
That quote needs to be regularly re-used as an argument to those who wish to ban women from ever voicing their opinions on footballers. Neill was outstanding last few games of last season at centre half and was again excellent in the world cup, though he did play poor sides like Brazil .... Admittedly he was under the cosh against Portsmouth and had to resort to fouling. At left back he has shown superb versatility to help Rovers out showing how two-footed he is " awful ........even worse ..........." Lord help us -

Glad you are big enough to praise him after slating him Captain. I hope now you can understand why I was annoyed at people moaning that we had re-signed him. Squad strength and quality cover in all positions are essential Brett will never be a world-beater but his signing up for four more years was good news if not eath moving. -
Whilst watching my nephew play for Lancaster last season, they had a lad who left off a piercing scream at the top of his voice every time the opposing keeper was about to kick the ball, apart from making the crowd laugh at every goal kick was far more effective than rythmic banging with the drum pushed towards the pitch in a ridiculous attempt to get the sound nearer to the keeper. Me and about 20 others who have sat round me for 15 years, affectionately (?) know him as 'Retard'.

My dislike for Emerton as a player is very rational Can honestly say I have never 'disliked' any Rovers player whilst at the club. I think T4E, its time to put your dislike of Emerton to bed for the time being, before it becomes dull. -

I'm not particularly an Emerton fan, bryan. he's lost his way career-wise. My point is simply, how can Emerton signing be bad news ? Why get on his back ? He's a player of reasonable ability, and the best crosser of the ball from the right side we have. He's a very useful player to throw on in the last 20 when we're chasing a game. He also provides valuable cover at right back which we blatantly need given we only have Neill who is really accustomed to playing there, and he is unsettled and will probably be needed at centre half anyway. I'd have thought with a squad that is showing to be too small even for our first game of the season, anyone with any sense would welcome Emerton signing as good news. -

So some of you lot reckon losing Emerton would automatically strengthen our squad ? F' in idiots -
Latest from The Sun Fratton boss Redknapp, who has also seen moves for Stilian Petrov, Nicolas Anelka, Ryan Nelsen and Juan Pablo Sorin collapse, said: “That deal is dead.” Nelson last night signed a four-year deal at Blackburn to take his pay to £30,000 a week. Defender Nelsen, 28, was the subject of a £4.5million bid from Pompey boss Harry Redknapp. That forced Rovers into contract talks — and now the Kiwi has netted a big wage rise.

[Archived] Rovers Foul All The Time - Ferguson
Brownie replied to jim mk2's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Ferguson has astonishing views on penalty decisions considering his stature in the game. I remember he claimed a couple of years ago that it couldn't be a penalty because the player was going away from goal !! So what ? And now he stated that it was a soft penalty becuase the ball was going towards the keeper !! So now we know, if the ball is going to the keeper an outfield player is ok to pick the ball up and give it to the keeper - according to Sir Alex -
Wonder why they didn't show Kuqi's jaw dropping miss on Football First ?

If Bellamy is fit , I'd expect to see Kuqi on the bench with Bentley supporting him. Same team as saturday except Todd for Zurab, Bentley and Bellamy for Kuqi and Dickov. We'll win 1-0. -

Whilst being a huge fan of mark Hughes and his modern style approach to fitness and team preparation and acknowledging Souness is behind the times with this. we shouldn't forget that Hughes wouldn't be having the success he is enjoying was it not for a succession of wonderful signings made by GS Friedel, Neill, Todd, Gray, Tugay, Pederson, Reid, Dickov are all crucial to Hughes success and were picked up for a combined figure of less than £6 million. Not many managers could achieve such success in the transfer market so I'd think a little before launching into a scathing attack on the man who re-established us a Premiership club. -
[Archived] Savage Bad Press
Brownie replied to ihateburnley's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Whilst agreeing that sometimes Savage can leave you wishing he hadn't done something or kept his mouth shut, people still fail to realise how essential he is to the whole Rovers work ethic. We took the heart and soul away from Birmingham when we signed him and they realised this hence how hard they fought to keep him. No coincidence that the fortunes of the two clubs changed almost immediately and now we are a club on the way up and they are one their way down. Give the bloke a break, I don't think it's humanely possible to put more effort into a game than he does. -

Unbelievable me and my mate were saying this all through the game last night. How he runs , how he kicks the ball how he passes, he's like a replica. Hope his free kicks are as good ! -

I will make it my priority to ensure Benni McCarthy signs before Pre-Season training commences. Regards David -
My mates have just been down to get their tickets and were told the BB End Lower tier is sold out !

Was a game we should have won. Pedrson's booking was the worst in history, Neill was booked for showing his his sheer disbelief at the decision. Stead is the unluckiest player I have ever known

As rough as it may seem, of the youngsters I've seen for the reserves, and I've only seen them a couple of times, I can't see any of them making the dramatic leap to becoming a regular Premiership player, and that includes Jemal Johnson. Andy Taylor looks a decent left back but it is such a big jump, it's difficult to see it happening. Look at Ciaran Donnelly for example, the wonder-kid who scored freely for International junior sides. He has been very quickly removed from the Blackpool side and apparently was very poor playing for Blackpool reserveslast week against a group of kids from Burnley masquerading as a reserve side.

Is this the same "pedz" who hasn't managed to link up play up front positively in his last three outings? v. Arsenal - nothing v. Palace - OK scored a goal that was laid on a plate (but that he almost contrived to miss) and not much else. v. City - nothing bar long throws and the odd easily gathered corner. This guy's hardly prolific ability to score goals is his only saving grace. I myself will be somewhat dissappointed if Pedersen is still an automatic first choice next season. Tugay - still the best passer of a ball in the side, can't understand why he didn't get on against City. Flitcroft - better defensive midfielder than Savage (perhaps not better than Reid, who has improved immensely since treading on the ball against the Turkish no-marks) You should have stuck by your name.

Agree with that Rev, but my point wasn that players are too easily written off by our fans. Matteo has had a great career at Liverpool and Leeds yet he was deemed a huge flop a few months after his debut. Also thought Lucas had a quality game again last night, his chest back to Friedel under pressure was class. His over-lapping was also top drawer. -
