[Archived] Season Tickets.........

Well that's encouraging news. -
Paul Dickov today 26th May, signed for Manchester City on a free transfer, after being released by Rovers.
-
Rovers left back Michael Gray has signed a new contract, that keeps him at Ewood until the summer of 2008.
-
Have to agree with Rev...it was a backwards step by our previous manager. Cant blame Dickov for his workrate but I wont be sorry to see the back of the moaning jock. Those who suggest that his goals kept us up, maybe true but I'd be more inclined to think he hindered the other strikers. Some stats from 2004-05 season relating to Dickov. Goals League 9 cup 1 total 10 Assists League 3 cup 0 total 3 yellow cards League 7 cup 2 total 9

Whilst no official announcement has been made by the Rovers, it is understood that striker Paul Dickov, has been released by the club, after he failed to accept the offer of a new contract. The Lancashire Evening Telegraph are quoting, Rovers' chairman, John Williams, as saying: "Paul has been released by the club after he decided not to accept our offer of a new contract. "I don't think there was any problem with the terms we offered him, it was more of a football decision. "We'd like to thank Paul for his efforts over the last two years, and we wish him all the best for the future."

What a load of ###########to blame the club because someone forgot to take up a special offer. Season Tickets dont normally go on sale until JUNE. The club gave EVERYONE, yes EVERYONE an opportunity to buy season tickets at 2005-06 prices for the WHOLE OF APRIL. before they put season tickets on sale at 2006-07 season prices. Its no DFS where theres a sale every ########## week. -
Whilst I know he's injured, but a certain midfielder missed Big clubs last game as he was in the box at the back of BBE.

Rovers are to prepare for next season with an away game against Accrington Stanley on the 19th July, before they set off for a 10 day training camp in Germany, where they will play friendlies against. Hamburg on the 22nd July, and Greek champions Olympiakos on the 28th July. As a curtain raiser to the season Rovers will play the New Zealand national team at Ewood Park on the 12th August a week before the 2006-2007 Premiership season starts.

May. The End Game. by Bob Fleming “Never cast a clout until May is out” they reckon. Which apparently means; don’t go out without a coat until after May because of the unpredictable weather. I jut used to presume that you were more likely to get a punch in the face on June 1st. Anyway, the next eight days would decide our season. Will we be off to Europe next year? Will it be via the InterTonto? Will I get to a game (or two)? More importantly can we win another game in Europe? And even more importantly than that, after April, can we win another game this season? Click here for the rest of The Fleming Report

[Archived] The Final Curtain - Rovers V Man City

Just a Small Town in Europe Excellent performance by the players today. After qualifying on Tuesday for Europe they could have easily just strolled around the pitch, but they were all worth the admission fee. Thanks to Hughes, we now have a team that never says die. -
A mistake by England’s Number 1, goal in each half, a sending off, a clean sheet, and a streaker, plus an atmosphere second to none, was a terrific finish to the season at Ewood Park as Rovers signed off with a 2-0 win against Manchester City, this afternoon. Having qualified for Europe on Tuesday night against Chelsea, Mark Hughes made changes to the team, bringing in Mokoena at right back, Peter on the left and Kuqi and Dickov up front. However without regulars, Nelsen, Pedersen, Reid and Bellamy Rovers took the game to City from the start, taking complete command it was inevitable that they took the lead in the 35 minute when Calamity James in the City goal failed to hold Peter’s corner, allowing Rovers defender Khizanishvili to beat him from close range with a left foot chipped shot. Rovers had to make changes early into the game when Mokoena was stretchered off injured, to be replaced by Bret Emerton, who in the second half linked well with Bentley on the right to set up Kuqi for Rovers second goal shortly after the restart. With a two goal lead and in complete control, Rovers were reduced to 10 men when Tugay was sent off for a rash challenge on Sommeil who made a meal of the incident, to influence the referee with more rolls that Warburtons Bakery. However even when down to 9 men when Kuqi went off for treatment on a cut head, Rovers never let City off the hook and continued to dominate and could easily have increased the lead with a Gray diving header that crept passed the post. After the game there was the customary lap of honour from the players and a promise from Mark Hughes of more exciting times to come next season from Rovers, who are just Small Town in Europe. Rovers: Friedel, Mokoena (Emerton 12), Khizanishvili, Neill, Gray, Bentley, Savage, Tugay, Peter (Gallagher 80), Kuqi, Dickov (Sinama Pongolle 64). Subs Not Used: Enckelman, McEveley. Sent Off: Tugay (59). Booked: Neill, Bentley. Goals: Khizanishvili 35, Kuqi 52. City: James, Sommeil, Dunne, Richards, Distin (Wright-Phillips 83), Sinclair (Croft 69), Barton, Reyna, Musampa (Riera 61), Samaras, Vassell. Subs Not Used: Weaver, Jihai. Booked: Distin, Richards, Sinclair, Dunne. Att: 25,731 Ref: H Webb

Well it’s the last game of what has been an incredible season. Who in August would have contemplated that Rovers would have got to a cup semi final or finished sixth in the league. Mark Hughes, his back room staff and the players have pulled Rovers out of the wilderness and back to the world stage, to play in Europe next season. Win, loose or draw against Manchester City, the team deserve a full house lap of honour this afternoon. The Ewood faithful should also stand up this afternoon and applaud themselves. They are the fans that are keeping “The Rovers” alive. With the ever increasing televising of live games in pubs from foreign channels, regular attendees to Ewood Park, should this afternoon stand up and take a bow. Pub based television viewers will complain that “The Rovers” are failing to buy or retain star players, such as Craig Bellamy. All I would say to those so called supporters and the landlords who broadcast foreign channel 3pm games “make the most of it, there is very limited televised coverage from the Championship.” Speaking to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph after winning the Supporters Player of the Year award, Craig Bellamy praised the Ewood faithful stating. "I've played in front of 50,000 and although we don't get the biggest crowds at Blackburn, the people we do get make more noise than when I've played in front of fifty or sixty thousand week in, week out." So “one more time” lets thank Mark Hughes, his back room staff and the players in the best way we can by lifting the atmosphere for the final game of the season at Ewood this afternoon. Thats because new topics have been merged into the old topic.

Mark Hughes has signed a new contract until 2009. Hughes has stated that he is excited at what is happening at the club and that he is very happy to pledge his future to the Rovers.
-
For the same reasons as 11 years ago. 8th May 1995. Only those there could experience the nervous tension, excitment, and eventual release joy, both on and off the field of play. Need I say more.

Oh, now youve got us all wondering - hope it's not serious. -
Classic comment from Hughes about the appointment of the England manager when being questioned about how the constant speculation over the vacant England job could have been unsettling for Curbishley. It should have been done and dusted a long time ago, but it is always difficult when you have got a committee.

Despite losing 2-0 away to bottom club Wolves yesterday Rovers U18’s will finish top of the U18 Group C League. With their nearest rivals Manchester United having completed their season with a 1-0 win yesterday against Crewe to give them a maximum of 52 points, Rovers currently on 54 points, will win the league even if the lose their final game away to Leeds next Thursday. Meanwhile Rovers reserves play their final game of the season tomorrow night against Bolton at Christie Park, Morecambe. Kick off 7pm.

Rovers on loan keeper Drench, helped Morecambe make the play offs today after beating Grays 2-1

Rovers moved back into a european qualifying place, with a 2-0 win against Charlton at the Valley this evening. Rovers who dominated the game, had to wait until just before half time, to go into the lead when Reid rose to head home a long throw in from Pedersen. Rovers went further ahead in the second half thanks to an own goal from Charltons Powell. Today’s win against Charlton has set the scene for an exciting night at Ewood on Tuesday against Chelsea, before the final game of the season against Man City at Ewood next Sunday. Hopefully supporters will turn out to give Mark Hughes and the team the deserved vocal support for the final push for European qualification and also in appreciation of what has been an outstanding season.
