With just over 24 hours before the transfer window closes at midnight tomorrow, the only confirmed dealings involving Rovers are the season long loan transfers of Paul Gallagher to Stoke City and Jay McEverley to Ipswich Town. At present there are no confirmed incoming transfer activity, although there are speculative rumours regarding Rangers defender Zurab Khizanishvilli.

Rovers have announced that their Carling Cup tie against Huddersfield Town, at Ewood Park, will be played on Wednesday 21st September. kick off 8pm

Rovers today anounced that they will not appeal against Andy Todd's misconduct charge. Rovers central defender Andy Todd, will now serve a 3 match ban, starting with the game against Bolton.
-
Rovers right back Lucas Neill will only miss the Villa game after, referee Dermot Gallagher made clear in his match report that Neill's dismissal came as a result of a second yellow card rather than a straight red. If Neill had been issued with a straight red in the Spurs game, instead of two yellow cards, Lucas would have had to serve a three-game ban.

Referee Dermot Gallagher has made clear in his match report that Neill's dismissal came as a result of a second yellow card rather than a straight red. That means Neill's punishment will not mean a three-game ban as would have been the case. -
Preview by Cookiemonster Three games into the season, a win, a loss and the Spurs result means that we are above the big team (Brum) and the clarets, no not Arsenal but Villa whom we meet on Saturday. The season so far for Villa, started with a 2-2 draw against Bolton. It was a frantic start at Villa Park where by the time Chris Kamara had shouted “Unbelievable!” four goals had been scored. They then lost narrowly 1-0 to Manchester United last Saturday and on Tuesday they had a game against Pompey, in which they had Nobby Solano sent off in a 1-1 draw. This means he maybe missing for the game against us, pending an appeal. In the transfer window so far Villa have brought in a few solid players to enhance a somewhat ‘small honest bunch of lads’ that O’Leary seems to mention every Saturday in the post match interview. He has brought in Phillips in place of Vassell, Berger in place of Hitzelsperger, Milan Baros to replace the on loan Carlton Cole and Stuart Taylor in place of Stefan Postma he has also brought in Aaron Hughes as an extra player. At the time of writing, Physioroom.com reports that Berger, Delaney, Samuel and Laursen all have injuries that could keep them out of the Rovers game. Hendrie will possibly be back from suspension and may come in to replace Davis. Now we all like to predict the outcome of the match and I’m no different. I am going to attempt to use the SOS method, bear with me – Statistics, opinion and simulation (doesn’t involve diving) to try and find an outcome for the match . Totally agree, except for. Blackburn is a passionate football town, It's not the population of the town of Blackburn, thats fanatical it's the clubs supporters. A lot of the Rovers supporters that I know live way outside the town of Blackburn. You only have to look at the membership of this site alone to see a large per centage of those that attend Ewood on a regular bases dont live in Blackburn. Whilst the fanatics, who have followed the club since the 70's 80's 90's will make the effort to attend games at every opportunity, if the club are to increase attendances they have to provide a value for money entertaining package for the "want-to-be" supporter from the larger catchment area than Blackburn itself. Ok those want-to-be supporters may be glory hunters, but the cash in their pocket is no different that the cash in a rovers fanatics pocket. Until you get them through the Ewood turnstyle, that money can easily be spent at any other football club. And that also comes back to Modi's arguement, if those want-to-be supporters arent affiliated to any specific club, and dont experience the atmosphere of a live game, they are going to accept that watching football on the box as the norm. And at a considerably cheeper price, without the discomfort of travelling, weather etc. -
Rovers have today signed Watford 22 year old goalkeeper, Richard Lee on a 12 months loan, with an option to buy, for a reported fee of £500, 000.

By the indicated times on some of the posts, comments on the game are based on radio commentry and pundit comment. Or are based on TV edited highlights. And before someone bites back, my comments are not intended as critism of those who werent fortunate enough to be at Ewood. It just reiterates a comment made earlier by Paul. Rovers 0 Spurs 0 I suspect that the media this morning will centre on Lucas Neill’s sending off after collecting two yellow cards in last nights game against Spurs, and regrettably no mention will be made of the fact the Rovers dominated the game throughout. Whilst Rovers attacked the Spurs goal throughout the game, apart from having to make one save from Andy Reid, Brad Friedel was a virtual spectator for the entire game. Similar to Saturday against Fulham, Rovers controlled the game from midfield, it was just unfortunate that they weren’t able to capitalise on their dominance in front of goal, with Kuqi being the biggest culprit, in missed opportunities to put the ball in the back of the net. In his defence, this was only his third game at this level and he needs to acclimatises to the speed of the premiership. For effort and commitment he deserves ten out of ten, which hopefully will be rewarded soon with a goal. After going 53 consecutive league games without being rewarded a penalty, the rule was relaxed last season, however I see the FA ruling regarding the issuing of Rovers a penalty is back in force this season. Evident last night when both Kuqi and Emerton claims for a penalty were dismissed by the referee. Fortunately Neill’s sending off, leaving Rovers only with 10 men, didn’t result in a defeat, however up until that point Rovers had been masters of their own destiny, the more the game went on the more likely Rovers looked like taking maximum points. Even with the Davids and Defoe on as second half substitutes, Spurs looked very mediocre and showed no threat to the Rovers, which would indicate that either Spurs are in a false place in the league or the Rovers entertaining performance against Fulham was no flash in the pan. The question may be answered this weekend when Rovers travel to Villa Park, when hopefully we can sweep the memory of the dismal display against West Ham under the carpet, as being a one off poor performance. Rovers: Friedel, Neill, Todd (Mokoena 81), Nelsen, Matteo, Tugay, Emerton, Savage, Reid, Pedersen, Kuqi (Johnson 87). Subs Not Used: Enckelman, Jansen, Gresko. Sent Off: Neill (76). Booked: Neill, Savage. Spurs: Robinson, Stalteri, Dawson, Gardner, Edman, Tainio, Pedro Mendes (Defoe 81), Brown, Reid, Mido (Davids 53), Keane. Subs Not Used: Naybet, Cerny, Carrick. Booked: Dawson, Davids. Att: 22,375 Ref: D Gallagher Fans comments Click Here...from page 8.

Preview by phillipl So no early season form to go by. No knowledge that we got robbed blind by a 92nd minute Wham winner and Fulham hadn't forgotten how to win at Ewood either, nor that Spurs frollicked to an easy win at Pompey before taking their frustration out at not being drawn out of the pansy bowl (oops, fair play lottery) for a UEFA place by thrashing 'Boro. Bottom v Top and huge stakes for so early in the season but could it be the other way around???? Rovers 100% success, Spurs under-achieving ..or will this already be predictable mid-table mediocrity? Enough of this whimsy- Spurs are the enigma of the Premiership with on paper a great coach, one of the best keepers, a more than OK defence, a cornucopia of riches in midfield and several international forwards who lead the line for their respective countries. And yet they always seem to be considerably less than the sum of their parts. A failing which has bedevilled them for every one of their anonymous years in the Premiership. What the heck has a Cornish police series to do with Rovers. -
Agreed. Savage's problem is that he now has a tag, Sav won the ball, which is more than can be said for some of the tackles by Fulham players who got off scot free.

Ticket costs in relation to the local income, has to have a major impact on attendances. I heard a lady on the phone in after the game on Saturday, state that she and her husband would love to attend games but with her husband being on the minimum wage they just couldnt justify or afford spending £50 for a game of football. When I started to work out their monthly take home pay, less morgage/rent, council tax, water rates, electric, gas, transport and food expences let alone expenditure if they had children I could fully symathise with her. Football is no longer within the ecconomic reaches of the working class family. -
Now that was the type of entertainment that Rovers supporters have been longing to see at Ewood Park for the last two years. After last weeks display at West Ham, although this was basically the same team, the display and performance was unrecognisable, topped by two goals that were capable of winning the goal of the season accolade. With Rovers kicking towards the Darwen End the Rovers supporters were entertained by an exhibition of fast flowing attacking play, with Tugay orchestrating the play with long cross field passes. Who said 4-5-1 was a boring defensive tactic, with Savage and Reid chasing down and hassling in midfield and Tugay’s vision, Emerton and Pedersen where able to break forward on the flanks to take advantage of good hold up play by Kuqi, to threaten the Fulham defence at will. Prior to Rovers first goal, there was a slight scare when Friedel fumbled a Boa Morte shot, but that was quickly forgotten when Rovers scored. In a fast flowing move out of defence the ball was laid out to Kuqi on the right hand wing, who out paced the Fulham defence to wip in a Ripley style cross across the box to Pedersen running in from the left flank. With the Norwegian international in full flight he hit the ball first time with his left foot past the helpless Fulham keeper, to score one of the best goals scored at Ewood for many a year and a worthy contender for goal of the season. With Rovers in total command there was a further scare towards the end of the first half when Friedel’s brilliance stopped Diop scoring with a header. Rovers were caught napping as Fulham came out for the second half with a bit more bite and confidence resulting in an goal early in the second half, when McBride got in front of Todd, to glance a header past Friedel. Yes once again some sloppy schoolboy defending had infected the Rovers defence, however, this was short lived as Rovers once again took command to control the game, with a string of corners in Rovers favour. Warner in the Fulham goalmouth was kept the busier of the two keeper as he managed to scoop a Pedersen in swinging corner out from the underside of his cross bar. Warner’s luck wasn’t to last as Rovers implemented a training ground move. Pedersen changed his tactics of in swinging corners towards the cross bar by laying the ball out from the left right hand corner to Tugay unmarked on the left of the penalty box. The majestic unmarked, Tugay hit the ball first time on the volley, like a missile through the Fulham defence passed a motionless Warner and a Fulham defender on the line who must be more than pleased that he didn’t attempt to head clear. With Rovers now full of confidence they attacked at will, with Emerton and full back Lucas Neill coming close on two occasions, the first after a dribbling run through the defence saw his shot go over the bar and secondly a long rang shot that hit the underside of the cross bar. With Rovers 2-1 up and playing some entertaining attacking football, a sarcastic chant of 2-1 to the Bully Boys, erupted from the Blackburn End, before the team were deservedly applauded of the Park. The only disappointment of the afternoon was the gate of just under, 17,000. However with a few more performances of that nature Rovers should quickly see the return of some disillusioned supporters, who have had to put up with some dire displays in recent times. Rovers: Friedel, Neill, Todd, Nelsen, Matteo, Tugay, Emerton (Flitcroft 90), Savage, Reid, Pedersen, Kuqi. Subs Not Used: Enckelman, Gresko, Gallagher, Johnson. Booked: Reid, Savage. Goals: Pedersen 15, Tugay 71. Fulham: Warner, Volz, Knight, Rehman, Niclas Jensen, Malbranque, Diop, Claus Jensen, Boa Morte, McBride (Helguson 81), Radzinski (John 81). Subs Not Used: Batista, Elrich, Leacock. Booked: Diop, John. Goals: McBride 49. Att: 16,953 Ref: H Webb

The availability of £250 season tickets are limited. -
Despite the excitement of the first home game, after last Saturday’s performance, I’m apprehensive about the game itself against Fulham tomorrow, especially as it doesn’t seem that we have an experienced injury free, premiership striker available. Bellamy has been ruled out because of a thigh injury, Dickov is suspended, Jansen is still recovering from a leg injury that he sustained in the Espanyol game and Kuqi has yet to play a full 90 minutes of premiership football, leaving only 20 year old Gallagher with more than 90 minutes experience. The only saving grace would appear to be that Nelsen has recovered from his injury, and although not match fit, should help to stabilise last week’s shaky defence. Having watched Fulham on the box last week against Birmingham they looked full of commitment and running and I feel reluctant to suggest that with our lack of fire power tomorrows game could finish with the same score line as last season. 3-1 to Fulham. However I will hope at best that it’s a scoreless draw. With such limited options and in order to achieve limited damages, I would suggest that Hughes will revert to a 4,5,1 formation with Emerton dropping to the bench allowing Mokonea to operate as a holding midfielder in front of the defence and Gallagher playing on the right, to support Kuqi, as the lone striker. Suggested line up. Friedel. Neill, Todd, Nelsen, Mateo Gallagher, Reid, Mokonea Savage, Pedersen Kuqi Dream prediction, Jansen to come off the bench to score the winning goal. Realistic prediction. 0 – 0.

ditto what Paul said. Either a lot of the so called football fan idiots are realising how bad it's got, or it's a generation thing that eventually you wake up to. I remember my father in law, stating in the 70's when he would have been about the same age as I am now. "I WOULDN'T PAY THIS LOT WITH WASHERS"
