I biggest gate I remember in the 70s was 27835 in 1978 against Bolton. Last home game of the season we lost 1-0, Bolton got promoted and we finished 5th in the old 2nd division. Jambed like sardines in the Enclosure. -

He's made his name in the youth team on left side, although he can play in the middle of defence he'd be a bit to lightweigth at present against seasoned centre forwards.

Rovers Reserves kick off their season with an away game against Wigan on Wednesday 10th August, followed by a home game against Birmingham at Ewood on Monday 15th August. The reserves have a further home game at Ewood on the Monday 12th September before once again returning to their traditional home venue of Christie Park, Morecambe for the remainder of the season. A significant change is that the majority of Rovers home reserve games will be played on a Monday night, kick off 7pm. Reserves Fixture List from the Official Rovers Web Site Two of Rovers reserves, Keith Barker and Andy Taylor, who played for the first team at Morecambe last Saturday, have been named in the England Under 20 squad for an international friendly against Russia next month.

From the Morecambe web site. Ryan Robinson joined the Shrimps as backup to first team goalkeeper Adam Sollitt in late September 2004. He began his career as a youngster at Blackburn Rovers before making the move to Southend United for the 2003/2004 season. Robinson spent most of his time in the reserve team but he did make two first team appearances away at Hull City and at home against Lincoln with both games ending in defeat. After being released by Southend he moved back to the North of England where he joined Morecambe. -

Kept thinking on Saturday I'd heard of the Morecambe keeper, Ryan Robinson before. The penny just dropped, he a was Rover youth team keeper years ago. -
There is an old cliché of a game of two halves, well Saturdays pre-season friendly against Morecambe ended up as a game of two teams. Even the Morecambe announcer humorously stated at the start of the second half that he wouldn’t announce the Rovers changes as the whole team had been changed. So it was left to the more Rovers players educated spectator to advise adjacent supporters who were playing for Rovers. Rovers took the lead in the 25th minute through a Paul Dickov penalty after Morecambe’s keeper Ryan Robinson had brought down Craig Bellamy in the area. Although the referee did consult his assistant before awarding the spot kick. First Half Team. Friedel Taylor Todd Nelsen Matteo Johnson Flitcroft Tugay Gallagher Bellamy Dickov Half time 0-1 to Rovers Morecambe equalised in the 54th minute through Micheal Twiss who fires home a Wayne Curtis cross. Rovers eventually regained the lead in the 71st minute after a fine solo effort by Shefki Kuqi on his debut in a Rovers Shirt. However Morecambe’s Jimmy Kelly equalised in the 84th minute slotting the ball past a static Peter Enckelman in the rovers goal. Full time Morecambe 2 Rovers 2 Second Half Team. Enckelman Harkins Mokoena McEveley Gray Derbyshire Reid Douglas Peter Kuqi Jansen As this was the first pre-season game it would be unfair to pass any judgement on player performances as they attempt to gain fitness ready for the season. The game was a friendly and played in a manner that no one over commited themselves, but there were encouraging signs to take away from the ground. The defence in the first half were seldom troubled, Nelsen and Todd once again solid in the middle whilst 19 year old left back Andy Taylor playing out of position at right back, gave a solid performance. Causing Morecambe one or two problems with his runs down the line. Up front Bellamy was a live wire, with some intelligent runs into the box, which eventually resulted in the penalty. With the change of players in the second half Morecambe came back into the game and to be honest the Rovers defence was suspect, especially when Morcambe attacked down the left. A matter that Hughes strengthened by moving Reid to right back with Harkins moving into midfield. Shefki Kuqi making his debut in a Rovers shirt powered himself around the park and was rewarded by a fine solo goal, whilst Jansen looked sharp and Segio Peter caused Morecambe problems with his runs down the left. However this was just the start of pre-season, a run out in the sunshine in an attempt to gain match fitness and the opportunity for the fans to see the players and the new signings in the new home shirts. I would take this opportunity to thank Morecambe for their hospitality and suggest that anyone wanting to watch a good conference league game when Rovers aren’t playing, then a visit to Christie Park wouldn’t go amiss.

18/19 year old German, product of the academy, left winger but plays on either wing, was a member of the youth cup team that got to the finals,2003-04 season but got a bad injury. Was on loan to Cercle Brugge last season. -
Editorial Comment. How refreshing after the pre-season objectives of Rovers previous manager, Graeme Souness, to hear Mark Hughes state that this coming seasons objectives is European qualification. Hughes could have quite easily read from the same script as Souness, so that anything more than survival would be an achievement, but Hughes has been bold and stated his ambition to take the club forward, a factor that every supporter wants to hear. Unlike our previous manager, Hughes is relatively quiet and doesn't court publicity, however, when he does speak to the media he makes the right noises that the fans want to hear. Most football supporters live in a fantasy world, they live in their childhood dreams of winning the league or scoring that winning penalty at Wembley, they never dream of relegation; that's why supporters such as Jack Walker bank rolled the club, because he wanted to full fill his dreams of seeing a successful team. Mark Hughes is saying the right things that the supporters have been wanting to hear for a few seasons. After a number of seasons where the manager’s objective was to avoid relegation resulting in negative play, there is optimistic hope of a more positive attitude from the team and who would argue with Hughes's refreshing statement that the club should be aiming to achieve European qualification.
-
Well he did sign a midfielder (Parker) who still hasnt recovered from last seasons injury.
-
Apart from his ego, do you think Souness will be bothered. I doubt if any of us here would get a pay off if were sacked.

[Archived] Craig Bellamy - Good Signing Or Not?
Alan75 replied to Modi's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Well we will soon see on Saturday -
Rovers supporters should get their first preview of new signing Craig Bellamy in a Rovers shirt, on Saturday when Rovers play their first pre-season game, away to Morecambe at Christie Park. Kick off 3pm. There is also a possibility that Rovers will be wearing their new home strip for the first time on Saturday.
-
Or if he gets injured. HEY SOUNESS..........how do you fancy an irritating Scottish Gnome who will run around all day unless he falls over when backing into defenders.
-
Darn it, cant make it. There's a clash of dates, Rovers will be playing in the Charity Shield after winning the league
-
Wow sounds different. Is the white half on the front or the back.

GS seems to be the favourite to be first prem manager sacked. link

Are we any worste than any other team, if you look at the stats our so called bad boys arent that bad. There werent that many "BAD" fouls a lot of our bookings were for discent. Tugays sending off was for hand ball, Fergusons was for kicking the ball away Opps he only had 2 yellows he wasnt sent off In the modern game of football, it appears to have become acceptable for players to use bad language, deceit, cheating, pushing, spitting and indulge in mass brawls. How many times did Wayne Rooney use a four letter word in a televised game last season, whilst playing for Arsenal last season Vieira was carded 12 times and sent off once. To name a few, at United Roy Keane got 12 yellow cards, Scholes 7 yellow and 1 red. Rooney 7 yellow, Smith 5 yellow and 1 red. at Chelsea, Makelele 8 yellow, Terry 7 yellow, Lampard 8 yellow. Im not trying to say that Rovers are little angels, they are no different from the rest, however because they have started under Hughes to play the game more competitively the big boys don’t like it. Maybe Mourinho and Wenger who cried at press conferences should look in the mirror at some of their tactics.
