I dont know, but every avenue is worth considering. Just brain storming....others may want to elaborate or rubbish my thoughts. Asuming you closed the Riverside to seating.......where are those fans gong to go. There will be some who wont want to stand and will take up seating in other areas of the ground. Assuming the standing area is 50% cheeeper than sitting there will be a demand leaving spaces to accomodate those moved out of the Riverside. But there will be less available seating thus creating a demand. Those who have been a match by match casual attendee will have to think seriously about a season ticket to ensure access for the bigger games. The media centre could also go into the Riverside with cameras pointing towards the JW. -

stu, I know it would be safe at grounds like Ewood, where there isnt a demand for tickets and there is space to develop such a stand. It wouldnt work however at grounds where there is a high demand for tickets eg Man U. who are building up to the clouds. Which to me is a greater danger should emergency evacuation be required, and panic pushing occurs. Heck Ive needed oxygen when Ive climbed to the top of some of these stands, where the gangways are so steep it puts the wind up you with the thought if someone pushed during exiting the ground. -

In response to Bobby G. Its, not as daft as it sounds. Remove the Riverside and form a low terraced standing area, for home fans. Before anyone states the safety factor, / Taylor report. Im sure there are ways to make a standing area safe by a. having limited capacity to the area b. low graded / leveled terracing.....(Remember the olf Nuttall St enclosures.) c. a spill out area......already in place at the front of the Riverside. Imagine a terrace of say 5 risers 2 METRES WIDE, running the length of the Riverside, with corporate facilities at a higher level with open seating balconies. HOME FANS ONLY. An area where fans who want to sing can congretate. -
Thousands of people are being evacuated from Birmingham city centre after police issued a terror warning. Bomb squad officers have reportedly carried out a series of controlled explosions in the Broad Street entertainment district.

Biddy & MCMC1875 I just posted the link to the BRISA web site, which gives details in the form of a question and answer plus a contact link to the BRISCA admin. Agreed re. your comments about BRFCS members being founder members of BRISCA, but you dont have to be a member of this site to read it. This site and the BRISA site is open to the general public. It just so happens that the people who got off their backsides, and I'm not one, to try and forge a better link between the club and the fans are members of this site. Those involved as I understand it have been in contact with various supporters groups with a view to meeting prior to a public launch. This site at present is a convenient catalyst in helping in the formation of an independant supporters group, however, my personal opinion for what it's worth, is that this site and BRISA should have separate identities. -

[Archived] Mark Hughes - Good Choice ?
Alan75 replied to Ste B's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
What a refreshing change, from Souness and his annual quotes of our ambition is to stay in the premiership. Hughes is certainly getting me excited about the new season. Hughes Aims For European Place. -
Bellamy has signed for Rovers on a 4 year contract. Bellamy’s signing is a major coup for Rovers and shows the clubs ambition beating off the likes of Celtic, Everton and Aston Villa, for the Welsh striker's signature. Following the signing of Craig Bellamy from Newcastle for a fee believed to be under £5 million, Rovers manager Mark Hughes stated. "I think it is a real notice of intent. We've got a player who I feel is one of the best of his type in Europe," "He's a player that can take us to the next level, which is what I wanted to do. I'm very excited about the coming season." Bellamy who spent the second half of last season on loan at Celtic after his well documented fall out with former Rovers manager Graeme Souness stated that he wanted to shake off his bad boy image. Stating that all he wanted to do was to play football and he believed that Mark Hughes and the back room staff at Ewood would help him improve his game. "All I want to do now is prove my temperament is not a problem and get people talking about my football again."

Last week the Royal Navy celebrated the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar and the memory of Admiral Nelson. This week Rovers supporters continued the celebrations with the granting of a works permit for their very own Admiral Nelsen. The New Zealand defender who in 5 months at the club, has made such a big impact that he is one of the first players pencilled on to Mark Hughes’ team sheet each game, had his appeal for a work permit granted yesterday. Nelsen who was signed from DC United in January on an 18 months working holiday visa, was offered a 3 year contract at the end of the season. However due to New Zealand’s low FIFA world ranking, Nelsen’s initial application for a work permit was refused.

Today the message board is full of discussion following news that, South Africa striker Benni McCarthy will refuse all other transfer offers for the remaining two years of his contract with Porto if the Portuguese side does not let him join Rovers this week. His agent Rob Moore is reported to have told Portuguese daily 24 Horas. "If this week there are no developments in relation to his transfer to Blackburn, that window of opportunity will permanently close," "If he is not transferred this summer, he will carry out until the end the two years which he has left on his contract with FC Porto." So if you forget about the exiled supporters and allow for the people buying ST for the first time, there appears to be a downward trend of 4%. Thus the tread would indicate roughly a drop of 600 ST sales. Maybe philipl will check my maths. -
[Archived] Glazer Set For Utd
Alan75 replied to ainscough99's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Not a happy visit to Old Trafford for Glazer sons — Joel, Bryan and Avi Extracts from the Times. When they consider that they got out alive last night, albeit possibly fearing for their lives as their police van was battered almost into submission by the baying hordes outside. A 100-strong mob unleashed a war cry that doubled as a call to arms. Word spread so quickly that, by the time the van emerged a minute later, its path was blocked by as many as 400 protesters, summoned from all corners of the ground and none of them needing instructions to make their feelings known. The scenes were ugly in the extreme, but, with riot police out in force, the situation did not escalate completely out of control. There were truncheons raised and some protesters were flung out of the way as they tried to stage a sit-down protest in front of the van, but the heavy police presence — made even more intimidating by the incessant barking of some ferocious-looking dogs Among the more traditional chants such as “We shall not be moved” were some that carried a sinister edge : “How we’ll kill him we don’t know, cut him up from head to toe, all we know is Glazer’s gonna die”. The Times on line
