[Archived] 2005/6 Season Ticket Sales
Alan75 replied to Mike Graham's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Whilst I am on, I must say that alan75’s comment regarding the non-selling of season tickets to those who do not have one is surely a little wide of the mark. I remember last year bus after bus with adverts on and seeing ads at the back of the LET daily. What else do we think they should do? It’s a shame we always criticise but never give them any suggestions. 323200[/snapback] So what about this year. -
[Archived] 2005/6 Season Ticket Sales
Alan75 replied to Mike Graham's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Im sorry to say but a lot of those comments also go for existing season ticket holders. The season ticket pack sent out does nothing to encourage sales. The benifits shown on page 11, does not in anyway sell the ticket. They dangle a carrot in the form of "much more to be announced soon" Surely for a selling impact they should have had it sorted before now. The only encouraging bit in the pack is Mark Hughes's comments on page 2. It is easy for a manager to claim that "next season could be exciting" but in our case, I truly believe it to be a claim worth making. After being starved of entertainment at Ewood, At the moment the only rational reason I can think of for renewing my ticket is to see if Hughes is right. -
Sounds a bit like Rovers if you ask me 323000[/snapback] My thoughts as well, quite fitting that the game was played at Ewood, with the Mark Hughes single striker formation. However it isnt fair to compare ladies football to mens football. Most of these lasses are semi pro or amature who train once or twice a week. They play for the love of the sport and they showed full committment for the full 90 minutes. The only comparrison that should be made is between the skills of individual female players or ladies team. Dont knock it, give these lasses the respect they deserve for being top in their chosen sport.

[Archived] 2005/6 Season Ticket Sales
Alan75 replied to Mike Graham's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
There are a number of topics currently on the message board, which directly and indirectly are associated with season ticket sales. Reading through all the various topics the underlying opinions dont anwser the question associated with this topic. which is 2005/6 Season Ticket Sales, what can we do to help? more so, in my opinion, they tend to dissuade people from buying season tickets. With just 2 weeks to go before I need to renew my season ticket, to ensure I get the same seat, I am getting more and more uncertain as to whether I want to renew. I must admit I was in two minds about renewing last season, after the dismal performances under Souness, but I got optimistic and thought it would be better, but has it. Whilst Mark Hughes has done a good job in ensuring Premiership survival and his recent comments are more inviting than those of Souness, with his annual comment of "our main aim is premiership survival" once again, apathy has set it, regarding renewing my season ticket. A glance through the message board reading various quotes, might explain the reasons for that apathy. Personally I believe its the last quote of buying sub-standard product says it all in respect of the apaphy, where has the entertainment factor gone, what happened to the fighting spirit. As soon as we were safe from relegation the team just sat back, with no thought for the fans who had paid good money to watch a game. Last season we had 11 games that kicked off at home at 3pm on a Saturday, the remainder being rescheduled to accomodate tv at either 12.45, 17.45, or Sunday or midweek. Financially it has to be more inviting to buy tickets for the odd 3pm Saturday match and watch the rest on tv at home or in the pub and thus avoiding the travelling costs. OK you cant beat the experience of being at the ground, but each season that enjoyment is curtailed by the lack of atmosphere. Now if Im feeling that way after x number of years attending Ewood, how on earth can we expect the floating supporter to get a season ticket. Someone convince me. -

With the impending move out of Ewood Park by England U21 striker, Jon Stead, rumours are rife regarding his possible replacement / replacements. Names currently being thrown around include Newcastle’s out of favour Craig Bellamy, Chelsea’s Mikael Forssell, Porto's Benni McCarthy, Ipswich’s out of contract, Finnish Striker Stefki Kugi and relegated Norwich’s Dean Ashton. What is certain, Mark Hughes is keeping his cards close to his chest, very similar to the days of Kenny Dalglish, when the first anyone knew of a signing was during the photo shoot of a player, after he had signing at Ewood Park. Maybe Hughes will lay his cards on the table and reveal the Ace in the pack during a photo-shoot to launch the new away kit believed to be next Monday 6th June, prior to its release on sale around the 17th June; a month ahead of the release of the new home shirt.

Got mine yesterday -
Rumours would suggest that transfer listed striker Jonathan Stead will discuss terms with Sunderland this week and another premiership club, believed to be Charlton Athletic. It is understood that Rovers have agreed a fee of £1.5m, rising to £1.8m on appearances, with both clubs. With the exit of Stead, speculation now surrounds on who Mark Hughes will bring in as his replacement, hopefully a proven striker that will encourage a demand for season tickets, that went on sale yesterday. Shiver !!!!!! More than that. It's depressing, the more I think about how the club has been asset stripped of star players (thank you Graeme) to get into the current situation the more pessimistic I get. If I need a feel good factor, how the heck are the club going to encourage attendance from the floating supporter. -
[Archived] Mark Hughes - Good Choice ?
Alan75 replied to Ste B's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
With respect Bryan, I dont think the club have 10 weeks. In my opinion its 4 weeks, the 25th June deadline for season ticket renewal. If Hughes or the club dont come up with some possitive action, or even vibes, following the announcement of a Stead transfer by the deadline I see a greater loss of season ticket revenue than originally expected. -
The Lancashire Evening Telegraph are reporting this evening that they understand MARK Hughes will sell Jonathan Stead this summer if a club makes the right offer, in the region of £1.5 million. However it is believed that Rovers will also insist on a decent sell-on clause as part of any deal. Meanwhile it is understood that Rovers left back Micheal Gray will not be moving to Leeds due to financial restraints relating to his wages.

Rovers are currently being linked in the media with Ipswich, Finnish Striker Stefki Kugi, who is out of contract next month. Kugi who scored 22 goals during the season, has been offered a new contract by Ipswich but the striker may be tempted with the opportunity of playing in the premiership. In 2001 Kugi spent a couple of weeks on trial at Ewood, but was rejected by the then manager Graeme Souness who stated at the time, that the then Stockport striker was not exactly what he was looking for. Souness was quoted at the time as saying. "He's a very big, strong, enthusiastic forward but he's not exactly what we are looking for. "So we've decided not to pursue that one but I wish him well for the future."
