[Archived] 2005/6 Season Ticket Sales

I know how you feel Paul. I didnt get my usual seat for the TP Testimonial and had the missfortune to be sat next to a father and son from hell. In years past, when I was more able bodied, I suspect I would have lost my self control and smacked both of them. The father started the evening by abusing a couple sat in front of him who had stated that they hadnt been to Ewood since the championship years, this continued to a point that the couple never returned to their seats at half time. Its no wonder that fans dont turn up when they get that treatment. The son in his late teens was the most load foul mouth idiot you wouldnt wish to meet, who attempted to start chants throughout the game, although didnt know the correct words, then spent the last 10 or so minutes of the game abusing a bloke who'd asked him to shut up whilst TP was speaking to the fans over the tannoy. As I said, years ago I suspect I would have confronted at least one of them, however now I have more restraint and its a case of the pen being mightier than the sword, hopefully. eg Seat numbers have been reported to the club. To come back to the topic, this incident did have one conclusion that I shall be renewing my season ticket, for the simple reason of knowing who Im sitting next to. Although I do have to cope with bob fleming's flatulence. -

The Rovers Official Web site are reporting that Mark Hughes hopes Matt Jansen will return for pre-season training, refreshed after a lengthy break from the game. Hughes is quoted as telling the club's website: "The situation with Matt was that earlier in the year he was struggling to cope with the pressures of the game. It was felt that he needed to get away from all the demands that come from playing and training at Premiership level day in and day out. "We spoke to his people and they felt earlier that it would be preferable for him just to get away from football and have a complete break. "We were quite prepared to take that advice and do whatever was best for Matt and now we are very hopeful that he'll be back with us the first day of pre-season. "Then it is a case of see how things go and see if we can get Matt Jansen back to the level he reached prior to his accident."

Rovers have announced that defenders Craig Short and Nils-Eric Johansson are to leave the club. Both players are out of contract this summer and it appears with Todd & Nelsen now first choice centre half pairings, Hughes has decided that Short & Johansson are surplus to requirements. This decision means that Short's last league game in a Rovers shirt was against Fulham when he was sent off for pushing Boa Morte. He made 134 league appearances for Rovers, scoring four goals.

Just checked the tv schedules........its not on. And theres no radio com either...... Not sure about internet coverage.......maybe some obscure far east betting chain might be covering the game. The only way to experience this game is to be at Ewood.
-
Typical result 0-0 Ah well time for a summer break, cant say that this season will go down in the history books. Change of manager, solid defence....but no goals.

To follow Gav's fears, I wrote this elsewhere and have edited slightly. There were a number of us discussing the game last week and the season as a whole and it was alarming the numbers who don't propose to purchase a season ticket next year. One of which usually bought four tickets as a family. A number stated that with declining gates there is never a problem with getting match-day tickets at Ewood, and with so many games now televised it was more financially viable to pick and choose games. However the main factor was the lack of a *star* player, someone who made the hair on the back of your neck stand up, someone that made the crowd stand up when he got the ball, waiting in anticipation on what he would do. Someone you'd pay the admission fee just to see in action. The consensus of opinion suggested that that in today's game there are very few clubs who now have this type of player, or if they do find a gem of this calibre he is quickly the target of the mega rich clubs, which helps to continually widen the gap making the Premiership a non-competitive league. With the virtual dominance by Chelsea, Man United and Arsenal the Premiership is quickly becoming a replica of the Scottish Premier League with the main challenge for the remaining teams being the avoidance of relegation. To a degree I envied supporters in the Championship last Sunday as their teams fought for remaining play-off places and although I'm glad to be clear of the Premiership relegation battle, of supporters of Norwich, Southampton, Palace and West Brom who still have a weekend of excitement to look forward to. Rovers of course have a game this weekend at White Hart Lane, but who in their right mind wants to spend £34 a ticket, not to mention travel costs, to watch the lack lustre displays dished up this last couple of weeks, there isn't even a player in the team that gives that "buzz". A far cry from an end of season game between Spurs and Rovers 2 years ago when Rovers won 4-1 to finish sixth and qualify for Europe, with players such as Duff, Dunn, Jansen and Cole. Watching those player alone was worth the admission fee. The people who followed Rovers prior to Jack Walker will continue, but I fear that a large per centage of those who joined during the revolution are outside the catchment area, so dont bother any more plus there is a worrying factor that the younger generation are now going off to university and finding occupation outside the Rovers catchment areas.

OK I'll admit it, I've been crying, I thought we'd blown it. I was one of the unlucky ones who couldnt get a ticket and was sat watching this new Satelite whats it, remote in hand flicking between stations. After kicking heading passing shouting diving over the livig room carpet to try and stop goal bound shots Im mentally and physically exhausted. I saw the camara close ups of Rovers fans in dispair, I saw heads drop and saw Kenny's face when the result came through from West Ham. I saw Jack clamminging over seats tears in his eyes and I swelled up inside, the hair on the back of my neck stool on end as Rovers players collapsed and others jumped for joy. We are champions, it will be written in the history books, Blackburn Rovers, Premiership Champions 1994-95 Season, just watch our fan base and attendances grow now. Jack Walker has spent a lot of money but he's going to have to spend more to increase capacity then we will be self financing in attendances alone, think of all the revenue from European gates.

Bob, you wont win. Not until they bring back terracing and standing areas.

-
Noooo, dont get sloppy and spoil your image.
-
He'll be ok phil, as soon as summer comes and he can get a bit of golf in, and a new coat wouldnt go amiss.
-
Hey, any of you Rovers supporters in Dublin heard of this young kid over there that Rovers are reported to be looking at signing on for the new academy. Someone says hes the next George Best / Ryan Giggs. Darrion Dough or something like that
-
Take no notice of rumours about Kenny, it's Man U trying to upset the apple cart, southern London tabloids with nothing to do. With Jack financing the club were else better could Kenny go. I cant ever see any other club being financed to the extent that Mr Walker has done with Rovers.

BRFCS.com is proud to present a special 'retro forum' for you to participate as if it were May 1995. We are fast approaching the end of the 1994/95 Premiership season. Rovers are top of the league, but Man Utd are breathing down our necks. How will things turn out? Can Rovers do it for Jack? How are you feeling? Can we do it? Will we stumble at the final hurdle? How **** were we against West Ham? Air your views! In May 1995 the internet wasn't the preferred way to talk about footie and fans around the country, around the world, couldn't share their fears and hopes for these tense last few weeks of the season that could be Rover's finest hour. Now you can! Pretend you were there Air your views! You don't have to been around at the time to participate, just act as if you were. The only proviso is you don't use hindsight and try to pretend now is then.... Click here to enter 1994/95 Retro Forum
