  4. Steve Bruce wont leave Birmingham fo Newcastle. He belives in loyalty
  5. Flopsy, could you rephrase that, sounds as if they are a premier team.
  6. Today, like another script from 24 HOURS, there could be some twists and turns as the transfer window deadline comes to a close. Added to the speculation and intrigue as to whether Rovers will beat the clock and secure the services of another player, or whether Rangers come in with a last minute bid, matching Rovers valuation of Ferguson; it is also the draw for the next round of the FA Cup. 7. Yes it would be great to have world class players gracing Ewood, but it would also be great to have the characters eg the end of game salmon leap of Flowers. MGP did a lot to gain favour with the fans when he, maybe by accident, dived into the crowd after scoring. It was very refreshing on Saturday, to see the Colchester keeper smiling and joining in the banter with the Blackburn Enders. I suspect if he had ignored the BE early applause after clearing the next back pass the fans would have started a chant such as Dodgy Keeper, however due to him joining in the banter all he got was applause at every opportunity. Lets be honest - How many of our current crop of players give the fans any recognition. Brad, Tugay at the end of the game !!! And Matt Jansen will allways applaud the fans.
  8. Oldham have just been knocked out tchocky
  9. There are a core of die hard supporters who will attend Ewood no matter how they play or whatever division they are in, so preaching on this messageboard is a waste of time. Whilst Sky / TV packages help the clubs financially, the blanket coverage of tv coverage is in my opinion driving away the casual supporter. Why should they pay the high addmission prices when they can view a game virtually any night in the comfort of their homes and be in bed at a reasonable time of night. The only way at present, whilst there is tv coverage to saturation point, to entice the casual supporters is to provide them with exciting, successfull football with as Paul puts it "A HERO" that they can identify with. Fans are fed up of mercenary players who ultimately funnel into their own pockets the money recieved from tv. The average man of the terrace cant comprehend or justify the wages received per week by an average player, which causes resentment.eg Why should I pay to watch that lazy so and so, he earns more per week that I will in 12 months. How many supporters with families to support can justifying over £100, taking into account tickets, travel cost and parking for 3 games in a week, worst still if he / she has to take along junior members of the family. As for thenodrog's comments of use it or loose it, well to be realistic, the casual supporter couldnt care less. The only people who would mourn the decline of the club would be the die hard supporters. The remainder will quickly throw their allegiance to which ever club is currently at the forefront of English football. With regards to a Lancashire United team, whilst fanancially it may be the answer to many a clubs problems, traditional supporters of clubs would prefer to cut off their right hands than merge and you would end up with splinter groups setting up their own new clubs.
  10. PS. Must say well done to the U's keeper, he didnt let his head drop and the smiles that he gave the Blackburn End every time he cleared the ball afterwards was a joy to see. Nice to see someone playing for the enjoyment of the game, and not the pay packet.
  11. oii, Mrs 75 might read this. Dread to think what she says when she sees petrol account. Seriously though, for those with families to support and also have to finance tickets for the kids it cant be easy. Well done Rovers for reducing prices for the game. What I did notice today, was that there was less moaning from supporters. sitting near me. Admittedly the anti Lucas Neill fan club were conspicuous by their absense.
  12. Where is Jansen anyway..............he hasnt been seen or heard of since coming on as sub at Cardiff.
  13. Mokoena, to be polite is a raw talent. Tends to win most balls in the air and gets his foot in, but has no ball didtribution. A modern day Faz. Nelsen, got turned a couple of times and gave away a silly free kick on the edge of the area. Read the game well, and wasnt afraid to throw out instructions to other members of the defence. Dare I say it, that once he adjusts to the Premiership he could be a revalation.
  14. Rovers strolled to an easy win against Colchester this afternoon, after U’s keeper Aidan Davison missed a back pass, that is bound to be a candidate for the next goalkeeping blooper dvd release. Davison only managed an air kick and minimal contact to Kevin Watson's backpass allowing the ball to run freely into the back of the net after 21 minutes of the game. Within 6 minutes Rovers increased their lead when Jemal Johnson scored on his home debut, striking the ball past Davison from 18 yards, after Pederson had laid back Thompsons low cross from the right hand side. Half time Rovers 2 Colchester 0. Within 6 minutes of the restart Dominic Matteo diverted a Robbie Savage's free-kick into the left hand side of the U’s goal to make it 3 – 0 to the Rovers. Rovers : Friedel, Neill, Todd, Mokoena (Nelsen 52), Matteo, Emerton (Reid 71), Savage, Thompson, Tugay, Pedersen (Stead 71), Johnson. Subs Not Used: Enckelman, Gallagher. Yellow cards : Mokoena. Goals : Watson 21 og, Johnson 27, Matteo 51. Colchester : Davison, Stockley, Baldwin, Brown, Hunt (Chilvers 55), Halford, Danns, Watson, Johnson (Keith 79), Fagan, Williams (Ndumbu-Nsungu 58). Subs Not Used: Gerken, Cade. Attendance : 10,634 Ref : H Webb

    Glory Or Bust.

Rovers entertain Colchester United in the FA Cup this afternoon at Ewood Park, a game that could determine the destiny of the club and a couple of players. For the club, a continued run in the cup will hopefully generate a resurgence of interest from the armchair supporters and get them back in to Ewood Park and for two players, should they be selected this afternoon, it could determine their future involvement with the club. With the lack of fire power up front Matt Jansen may be given another chance to kick start his season, and to give Jansen the opportunity to prove to the Rovers management that he deserves an extension to his contract which runs out at the end of the season. The biggest challenge however is for want away, Barry Ferguson, who has been left in limbo, after Rangers cheeky bid to get him on the cheep, was rejected outright by the Rovers board. After requesting a transfer, the "boo boys" are bound to be on his back, with howls of derision at every missed tackle or miss placed pass. Anything less than a 110 per cent effort from the Scott will undoubtedly be criticised. I for one would hope that if Mark Hughes does pair Ferguson and Savage together for the first time this afternoon, that the fans back Hughes judgement and restrict any adverse comments and booing, whilst Ferguson wears the famous blue and white shirt. Team News Mark Hughes has a full squad to choose from, although Dickov had a groin problem in training and Hughes may rest him in view of Wednesday's game against Chelsea.
  16. Lucas Neill and Brett Emerton have been named in the Australian squad for their forthcoming friendly game against South Africa on the 9th February, when they could be up against team mate, Aaron Mokoena. New signing Robbie Savage will also be on International duty when Wales play Hungary. Meanwhile Barry Ferguson and Paul Dickov have been called up for the Scotland get together in Manchester between the 6th and 9th February and Paul Gallagher has been included in the Scotland U21 squad to play Northern Ireland on the 8th February.
  17. What about the manager den. Jin Iley anyone
  18. Rovers defender Alex Bruce has joined Birmingham on a two-and-a-half-year contract. Bruce, who had yet to make a first team appearance for Rovers, will join his father Steve Bruce, the Birmingham manager, at the end of his current loan period with Oldham. Rovers have include a 25% sell on clause in the transfer negociated with Birmingham.
  19. With just under a week left before the transfer window closes, there are indications that despite already signing 3 players, there may be some more new faces arriving at Ewood Park, with a loan striker high on the list of priorities. Rovers' Chief Executive John Williams is being reported as saying: `If there is an opportunity to bring in a striker on loan before the transfer window shuts then that is something Mark would be interested in doing. One striker currently being linked to Rovers by the media gossip columns is Newcastle’s Craig Bellamy who has recently fallen out with Souness. Mark Hughes who was Bellamy’s International manager is reportedly to be monitoring the situation at St James' Park, and whilst Rovers could be struggling to meet Newcastle’s valuation of the player, a loan deal until the end of the season may be beneficial to all parties. The gossip column are also linking Rovers with, Deportivo La Coruna striker Diego Tristan and Standard Liege left back Philippe Leonard. Rovers supporters should however be cautious regarding the rumours as John Williams is reported to have said. `I think we have signed more players than anyone else in the Premier League during the window and our squad is almost too big now.' That said with the count down towards the transfer window closure, Rovers supporters are speculating on recent transfer gossip. Click here for Fans Views
  20. Rovers away fixture against Liverpool, scheduled for the 26th February, has been postponed due to Liverpool's involvement in the Carling Cup Final against Chelsea on Sunday 27th February. A new date for the Anfield fixture has yet to be announced.
  21. Well a conversation I over heard in the Fox & Hounds last night sums it up. A season ticket holder had passed his ticket over to a mate for £5 as he couldnt be bothered and was going to watch the game in the pub. For the exiled suporters information, the F&H pub is no more than a 5 min walk from Ewood Park.
  22. After last nights display, nay the displays from our strikers so far this season I have to disagree. Of our strikers Jansen has looked the most dangerous in front of goal. Jansen on crutches is better than Bothroyd.
