Rovers midfielder Steven Reid has avoided a ban but has been fined £1,000 by The FA. after he was charged with improper conduct following an incident involving Jesper Gronkjaer during the home match against Birmingham on the 21st November 2004. Rovers have this afternoon confirmed the signing of DC United Washington and New Zealand Captain Ryan Nelson. The 27 year-old centre half who can also play midfield, had trials with Rovers, towards the end of last year, has been offered an 18-month contract. Nelsen who has been voted American Soccer League All-Star twice, as well as the 2003-2004's Defender of the Year. Captianing DC United to their 4th title in 9 years.

Rovers have had a second bid for Robbie Savage turned down by Birmingham City, despite the player submitting a transfer request and being dropped for last nights game against Bolton. A game that Bolton won 2 – 1 at St Andrews. Rovers are reported to have increased their bid for the 30-year-old player by 33%, making the deal worth around £2.5 million. A Birmingham supporter stated on BBC Radio Wales this morning that whilst he wouldn’t like to see Savage leave the club, many of the Birmingham supporters were annoyed regarding the transfer request, backing Steve Bruces decision to drop Savage for last nights game. He even went to suggest that maybe Savage should be dropped to the reserves until the matter is resolved. Meanwhile a representative from www.brfcs.co.uk told the radio station that Rovers supporters would welcome Savage to Ewood Park, however this should only occur if the price was right. Ive supported the team through good and bad times, heck I didnt even miss a game during the days of Jim Iley, but some of the stuff we had to endure in the last 12 month, made me seriously concider whether I should renew my season ticket. It got to the point that I was going out of habbit. Another season like the last, and I suspect my money would have gone instead on subscribing to sky instead.

After the disappointment of Saturday's defeat at Villa Park, Rovers bounced back with 1 - 0 home win against Charlton, thanks to a text book header from Australian International Bret Emerton. Rovers who had dominated the first half eventually got the winning goal five minutes before the break when Ferguson cut the ball back to Thompson, whose pin point cross found Emerton free at the far post and the Australian made no mistake in thundered his header back across the goalmouth into the back of the Charlton net. These are Souness's players, but what is becoming increasingly obvious, this is Mark Hughes team. To date Hughes has had to work with the players that he inherited and he must take credit for transforming players who performances at times last season were'nt fit to wear the shirt. Whist I have mentioned certain individuals, there are no star players, none that the kid on the park can identify with, this is because the players are playing as a team, they are playing as a unit. That is principally why the team isnt conceding goals. On todays display I wouldnt nominate any one player as man of the match. It was a collective performance of individuals who have gelled as a unit. If I were to highlight one player it would be Stead, who would get my vote for most unlucky player. He grafted hard today, running into channels and trying to create chances for himself. The shot just before half time, after he'd gone round the defender and cut in from the corner looked a goal all the way, until the Charlton keeper got a hand to it.
