After the condemning comments about Blackburn manager Graeme Souness by recently transferred David Dunn and Keith Gillespie this week, Blackburn’s Gary Flitcroft and Andy Cole have spoken out in support of the manager, as has new signing Brett Emerton. Flitcroft has stating "There is a great team spirit here. You don't have the success that we've had here in the last three years without a good team spirit. Whilst Cole who has had his run in’s with Souness is reported to have said. "The manager is doing a great job. We have have come a long way at Blackburn and the club is still going forward. He has assembled a tidy little team and no one can argue with that. "When I first arrived here we were in the bottom half of the table. But to finish 10th and then sixth since then is some going. That's down to the manager." Emerton is quoted as saying “Obviously I have a great impression of him otherwise I would not be considering going to the club. I cannot comment about the other players but as far as I am concerned he has treated me well. Editors comment Maybe there is an arrogance about Souness, but is it a case of Sour Grapes. As reported on this site yesterday, transfer speculation in respect to Blackburn Rovers and Feyenoord’s Emerton is hotting up in the media. Brett Emerton could fulfil his dream of joining the Premier League after Blackburn confirmed today that they are ready to complete a deal to bring the Aussie midfielder to Ewood Park. Some sources are even predicting that the deal could be completed within 24 hours. Several Premiership clubs, including Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Tottenham and Newcastle have been linked with Emerton. Now it’s up to Graeme Souness to convince the versatile player, who can operate in midfield or in defence, that his future lies at Ewood Park.

If press and media reports are to be believed, Blackburn Rovers will sign two new players this week. The future of locally born Blackburn Rovers player, David Dunn now lies in his own hands, after Rovers accepted Birmingham City’s bid for the player today. A number of clubs were reported to be interested in the midfielder after he refused an extension to his current contract at the end of the season. However it would appear that only Birmingham made a firm offer, for the midfielder who has gained one England international cap. Unsubstantiated reports this morning (2.7.2003) suggest that Middlesbrough have made a last minute bid for Dunn. Dunn, who progressed through Blackburn’s youth system, achieved every supporters dream of playing for their home club, decided this afternoon where his loyalties lie, when he agreed to sign for Birmingham City. Subject to passing a medical Dunn will sign a four year contract, joining up with former Rovers players Damian Johnson and Jeff Kenna at Birmingham.

Meanwhile Blackburn’s official web site are reporting that Lorenzo Amoruso has passed his medical and talks are continuing with the Italian defenders representative regarding personal terms. It would appear that Spurs have a clone of the Burnley transfer reporter. After it was revealed last week that Ronaldo was to sign for the Yorkshire club, Blackburn have laughed off rumours coming out of White Hart Lane that Tugay was a transfer target for the North London club.
-
Reports would suggest that Blackburn manager is concerned regarding the protracted transfer of Vratislav Gresko. Rovers having agreed a transfer fee with Gresko’s club Parma over a month ago are still waiting for the left back to agree personal terms. These delays may result in Souness making enquiries elsewhere, as he currently doesn’t have a recognised left back on the books, although young centre back Jay McEveley was the find of last season when he filled in at left back. Reports today on various sites are quoting an article in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph that suggests that Blackburn are considering signing Monaco's Philippe Leonard. The Belgian international left back Leonard is available on a free transfer after being released by French side Monaco.

After being unable to impress at Ewood Park, Blackburn striker Cicco Grabbi could be on his way back to Italy. The Italian striker is being linked with a move to Napoli, to join up with his former Ternana manager, who is now in charge of Napoli. With manager Graeme Souness this week confirming that Egil Ostenstad still has a part to play in his plans for the coming season, Grabbi’s first team opportunities will be limited bearing in mind that Blackburn have Cole, Yorke, Jansen and Gallagher fighting for a place on the bench let alone automatic first team selection.
