Shame it wasn't sorted a day or two ago, could have played tonight and rested Pickering before the DingleDome Derby. -

You're right, bit unfair when Dolan actually has better goal contribution numbers. -

If he's not attaining much in terms of goals and assists as a number 10, even if that's in a slightly deeper role than Szmodics played, it suggests weakness with his final product. -

Maybe you're not that big an admirer actually if that's what you're calling him! -

What's the basis of thinking he can tear up the Championship? Because he has a reasonable goal record in the SPL for the 2nd best side there? A league that contains plenty of clubs who are League One level? A league where our youth team player earned rave reviews, yet the best deal we could get for him was 200k from a League One side? Or is it the 0 goals in 11 games and 0 goals in 18 games he attained in his last two Championship spells? -

I think he's talking about the wages, which I believe are rumoured to be 25k per week. -

I feel it's more a case of the purse strings have been snipped from above and the budget is bugger all. The people below Waggott, rather than Waggott himself, are doing their best to scour the bargain bin to stop us getting relegated. So far they've done a good job. Obviously Waggott will claim credit for any successes of others, that's one of the only things he's actually good at, but I don't think he'll have much to do with it. Not sure the owners are mad at him for those players walking for nowt either, if they were he would have been canned. In fact, in two cases (BBD and Rothwell) they pretty much forced it to happen. -

And what do you think is more likely, this, or Waggott and Venkys pocketing the money and loaning Ruddy instead? In fairness, Iversen's wages are probably out of our wage structure...I think someone said he's on 25k p/w? Don't quote me, I may be thinking of another player. But clearly we can't pay what's likely 10k above our highest wage to a keeper, we'd have everyone in the team asking for a pay rise. It could perhaps be circumvented with a huge signing on fee or a settlement where Leicester 'pay' (commas because really it would be us) the rest of his contract up, but that would require some savvy. -

Yep, another joke of a deal. A good CEO essentially pays for themselves, potentially several times over. Waggott's dire negotiation skills (apart from when it's for his own pay apparently) and utter ineptitude at all levels of how he runs the club has cost us many times his inflated salary. -

You're goddamned right I expect them to spend when they're 200 mill in. I might be more forgiving if they hadn't refused to even consider selling the club. But as it stands they've spent 12 years ruining our beloved club, and they should either put in whatever they're allowed to put in to try to remedy that (or at least keep us competitive) or fuck the hell off out of here and make way for someone else to do so. Leaving us to slowly asphyxiate is not an acceptable third choice. Also, as has been said many times already, the 200 million is their own fucking fault. They fucked up big time and got us relegated. They've continued to fuck up big time and squander countless opportunities to get us back to the golden honeypot of the Prem. We are where we are and have wasted the money we have wasted because Venkys are fucking shit. They've employed charlatans and chancers, flogged assets and failed to adequately replace them. Far as I'm concerned, they should shit or get off the pot. -

Ipswich won a jackpot worth what is it, about £200 million? And they were allegedly haggling over 500k too. Some of our fans even said we should give in to them over it. -

Yeh I was thinking about this the other day. It doesn't make sense to give your shiny new keeper their debut against the Dingles. Too much of a baptism of fire in a real confidence position. One blunder, and they and the fans will suffer a serious loss of faith. Sadly we may have to risk conceding the game to the Dingles (by having Pears in goal) to avoid having two keepers we can't rely on for the foreseeable. Cue somebody telling me footballers should be immune to the effects of psychology because they're paid a lot, I'm sure. -

I know you haven't been here (or at least posting) all that long, but Unleaded has consistently, for years now, been the most reliable ITK on this forum. He actually works in the industry. I'm not saying everything he reports will be true, but when he says something like that it can't just be written off as BS. -

My guess is it's not a non-starter yet, but that it depends on whether we want to use the foreign non-WP player slots (I forget the rule name) for someone else, especially if we get a foreign-based keeper. And/or the budgetary restraints meaning we might need to hold back until higher priority positions are filled. Although I believe the Japanese window has closed now, leaving his club unable to replace him, so that's probably added a fair chunk to the price. -

6 yards. He's stood right on the line of the 6 yard box when the shot is struck. As I explained in the other post, being stood on his line in that situation would be an unusual choice very few keepers would make there. Just because he probably would have got to it if he'd done that doesn't mean it's the rational place to stand. It's a bit like saying a keeper would have saved a penalty if he'd stood central instead of jumping right/left. Sure, but they're not psychic. We still need a much better goalie than Pears, but he's not at fault here. -

Whoever finds players for Peterborough, we should really try to add them to our recruitment setup. Superb track record for a League One side. Always seem to have some quality players good enough for the Championship and with potential for the Prem. -

I'm not a fan of Pears and would be delighted if we sold him and bought two new keepers, but this time I think that's a little harsh. I really wouldn't expect my keeper to be stood on their line there. Just because in hindsight it would have helped doesn't mean that's the right spot to take in that situation most of the time. You don't want the goalie to have too much to do to cut the angle off if someone breaks through the line instead of shooting. Also most of the time, a shot from there won't rise and dip, it will be arrowed straight, and if you're right on your line you're giving yourself a lot more reaching to do to stop it going top corner. Pears isn't the biggest keeper either so it's natural he wouldn't adopt the position which requires the longest reach if it heads to the top corners with a shot with a direct path. I think that goal is beating nearly every keeper in the league 9 games out of 10. -

Yep, we're definitely not the 'someone comes in with enough money' to get a player that a fairly large club want to keep, kind of club. We're the 'someone comes in with enough money' to sign a player you either don't want or desperately want the money for, kind of club. If you're/we're lucky. Likely after offering a derisory loan deal first.
