I've not seen the incident but it sounded bad on the radio. Whatever the reason he should not have done it - no excuses and that's the bottom line. I dont see how Rovers will benefit by banishing one of the better players at the club to the reserves tho?

[Archived] Fans Player Of The Season
JamieUK replied to Presty On Tour's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
I dont think it's that straight forward! Lots of candidates... Brad -back to his best this season. Nelsen - Taken captain's armband with Todd out of the side and led by example. MGP - Just because of the goals. Bellamy - The most exciting player we've had since Duff & stands out a mile every game. Reid - Improved a lot. Tugay - Has been instrumental when he's played and we've been restricted when he's not. I'd say they are the main ones but a lot of players have had good seasons - Lucas Neill & Savage too... Personally I'd go for Bellamy - Doesnt matter what people say bout how well we did without him for a third of the season. We would be nowhere near where we are now with Dickov & Kuqi upfront. The guy is pure class - we've got to build the team around him if we are to progress... -
FFS people moaning bout not being able to have a fag for a couple of hours & maybe having a smoking section! It is TWO HOURS! Why should other people have to breath in your cigarette fumes??

Just got back - That was by far the worst performance I've seen for a while and yet Rovers still won. Dont know whether to be tho cos the last few games we've not been as strong as we've come to expect this season but we keep on picking up 3 points! 2 players stood out for Rovers - Reid & Friedel... Without them we should have been well beaten and watching the game it was hard to tell who had 10 points and who had 50. I hope Hughes has seen enough of Emerton now to realise he just isn't good enough. He offered nothing to the side today, his crosses were poor and on a couple of instances where to looked to have a fast counter attack going the ball went to him and his first touch completely ruined the move. It's so frustrating because we all saw him do the business not too long ago but I think a move away would be the best thing for both Rovers and Bert. I thought that Bellamy had taken picked up an injury. He had a burst towards the corner and a sunderland player put in quite a heavy challenge - he didnt look the same after that. Couldnt tell if it was a knock from the tackle or if he tweaked a muscle when he made the run. I guess we'll find out on Monday. When it was Dickov & Kuqi up front it showed how much he does make a difference - We'll need at least 2 strikers to come in during the Summer. Both are at that level inbetween Prem & Championship and even though you cant fault their workrate they just dont have the quality that's needed for us to push on. I hope and expect next Monday's performance to improve dramatically - We missed Sav today in midfield as none of our players seemed to be encouraging each other. Same with our fans-couldnt believe we werent trying to get behind the players and instead seemed more interested in baiting the Sunderland fans and singing 'sack the board'. :s

Namedropper! If you think he's reached his peak then fair enough but at his 'peak' he is a lot better than other options we have available. I think to keep him because he will continue to improve - especially as he gains more experience from playing reguarly.
-
I'm v annoyed at the change again but can understand Rovers wanting to be helpful... By keeping Liverpool happy it will count in the future re player loans, purchases, etc. (Pongolle?)

On the flip side we get an extra 450k income from Sky Money tho now...

[Archived] Should Dunny Have Come Home?
JamieUK replied to blinddevotion's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
I saw an article this morning - Bruce has come out and said that DD can be the difference between them staying up and going down... The same article also stated that he has only started 35 games since he joined Birmingham in 2003 - That's approx. just 12 games a season! I'd love a fit David Dunn back at Rovers but I dont think it will happen simply because there is no such thing as a fit David Dunn!!! :s -
Think Liverpool were chanting to Risse - "Jon Arne Risse, I wanna know if you've broke his leg?!" Haha. Wouldn't wish that bad an injury on many players but he is one of the few. The challenges he was putting in on the Rovers players in our last 3 games could've certainly resulted in a similar break for one of our lot.

Saw his goals on Soccernight last night - The second was quality. Driving at the opposition with pace and close control before hitting it into the upper corner of the net with the outside of his right boot. Hope he keeps it up... -
Been away and not read anything much about the last 2/3 games but Reid seems to be getting rave reviews - which position has he been playing?
-
what's neill doing there?!!?!
-
Sounds like MGP's corners are still crap?! I was away last week - Who took them when Peter came on against Newcastle? oh ###### they've scored again.
-
Could be more of a 4-5-1 with Axe & Bentley either side of a 3 man midfield? Brad Neill, Todd, Zura, Gray Axe Reid, Sav, MGP Bentley Kuqi

[Archived] Jansen Rips Up Contract
JamieUK replied to Wild Irish Rover's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
He looked like a little boy lost when he came on and during the warm up. I thought he made the same contribution for Bolton that he has done every time he's been on the pitch since the accident - everywhere the ball was, he wasn't. Don't know if the crash has affected his head but he looks as though he's lost all the positional sense he had and what was one of his major assets. Before the Bolton team came back into the dressing room before the match about 4 or 5 players where taking shots at Walker(?) and Matt was litteraly being the ball boy - not once did he shoot he just kept fetching the ball and watching the others. Shame what's happened but it's going to take a miracle to make him a prem player again... -

I'm with you on this... The club looks to have been either very naive or just wanted rid of him as easy as possible. If Rovers had known of the interest from Man City, Bolton, Everton & Wigan they should have let him go on a free transfer with clauses for goals, appearences & a sell on percentage. The fact that they did not insist on this indicates they did not anticipate Matt Jansen would be at another Premiership club within 48 hours. If he makes an appearance today I wont boo him but moving to BWFC makes it hard to give him applause. 4-0 with a Jemal Johnson hatrick after coming on as sub in the 4th striker role please!.... -

"I am looking forward to working with him between now and the end of the season and I hope he can recapture the form that made him one of England's best strikers a couple of seasons ago." Haha try 4! Gone down a little bit in my book by signing for one of our immediate and local rivals. Good luck to him though I suppose - If anyone can turn him round it's got to be Big Sam. Not sure how he will fit in with their 4-5-1 formation - on the left?! Not his best position though and he'd be crap up front on his own. -
I thought he was brilliant last night and easily man of the match. After seeing the replay for the goal I thought he could have done better but after seeing it again it was Saha who created the goal and not Todd who handed it to him. Todd had an eye on Saha and on the player with the ball. Just before the ball was played through Saha made an excellent run on the blindside of AT leaving him with a clear run on goal.

[Archived] Rovers 3 - 0 QPR. F.A. cup

Peter did ok - kept things simple but apart (!) from the 3 passes for the goals didn't really do anything else of note! He maybe tried to take on the full back 2/3 times - First time I've seen him and he looked more of a left sided midfielder than an out and out winger - Seemed reluctant to go for the byline. Bellamy is on a different level to the majority of our players. If we can build the team around him during the next few years we will be a top 6 side. Overall I thought the performance was ok - The scoreline perhaps flattered Rovers and they were unlucky not to score. If we play the same on Weds I fear another 3-0 but this time reversed. :s Hopefully MGP will be refreshed and have the same impact as when he was left out of the side recently. Onwards and upwards! -

I cant see wholesale changes for this. My team for tomorrow... Friedal Neil, Zurab, Nelsen, Gray Emerton, Tugay, Savage, MGP Bellamy, Dickov Would like to see Peter given a start but would be happy for him to come on at half time once Pedersen's done the damage. I think Dickov will start as he's been the one getting subbed recently so not really due for a rest unlike Kuqi. Ideally I think we'd all like to see some of the back-up players start but not at the expense of a possible upset. Rovers to win 3-1 - Bellamy, Dickov & Emerton. -

I'd rather give Johnson or Derbyshire a chance to shine rather than giving a half interested Jansen a game if he decides he is definately going. Perhaps they could agree to one final chance on Saturday - Play well and stay in the side. I'm sure he would rather stay here and be in the team than anywhere else. -

Cant imagine Jansen at Bolton... He'd either be played up front on his own or out on the wing. For me he's not a lone striker and although he used to tend to drift out wide when playing up front he is not a winger/forward. -

Just had a look back at recent league tables - If we were to double our current point haul and end up on 54 points we'd be likely to finish 7th/8th at the end of the season. If we can find just a little extra in the next half of the season Europe's a real possibility!
