  1. Maybe the two are related . They should be .
  2. There is no logic when Political Correctness is allied to short term expediency . A bit like banning smoking in a pub full of consenting adults ....and allowing it in homes where kids haven't the choice to walk out .
  3. In polite society it's not the done thing , old chap .....
  4. In your haste to have a dig you've missed my point - (not for the first time but never mind ..) I would suggest that maybe the GB Government should have used its influence to better effect in the building of the national stadium for the national sport in the national capital . Don't tell me they couldn't have made their presence felt .. Like I said , a lack of political accountability . What do we have a Minister of Sport for if not to bang heads together to make these projects work ...?
  5. Only a lowlife would grass on anyone . Anyone who thinks that people are suddenly going to start flocking down to Ewood on the strength of this is plain stupid . Sooner or later punters will be able to watch games on their own TV or computer .....Sky and the Rovers(?) are trying to stop the tide of technology - and alienating people in the process . Better to entice people methinks .
  6. So who's going to bail Multiplex out and finish the job if they go bust ? Some MP was on the radio today saying it might not be ready for next year's FA final . Sounds a bit like the Scottish parliament shambles to me . No real political accountability .
  7. These developments are like a silver lining on a dark cloud . Just maybe the big clubs will bugger off to the mega boredom super league and let the remaining clubs redress the power struggle that has for too long been a money making machine for the top league players . Consequently wages could come down , followed by admission prices and genuine enthusiasm for the game as a "peoples'" game would return . In 5 years time the leagues could dictate terms to the big clubs desperate to return - wage caps , squad sizes , more equitable TV money distribution , etc . In the meantime - look at this season's league table - well managed clubs like the Rovers and Bolton could be challenging for the title . Well worth it !
  8. No way would the Rovers willingly give him up . The trouble is if UTD want him it's hard to stand in his way if he wants to go . Players have all the power .
  9. A bit of both really . Pongolle's first touch generally was impressive and controlled the ball effectively . His second was bloody awful and lacked any kind of conviction and belief that he knew what to do with the ball . Maybe one more game with Bellamy up front but if he's not producing the goods then maybe bring back Dickov or Bentley .
  10. I think Tiny Taylor needs an experienced man playing alongside him . Get Ammos agent on the blower.....
  11. Oh and by the way , Abbey's right . Double the ticket prices and I reckon 4000 would be about right . My local landlord would appreciate my extra custom though....
  12. I've been doing that for years , Drog . I don't even know where my season ticket seat is these days ....
  13. Young Frosty is correct - for a change Considering we have no chance of filling the ground against anyone it would have been a better move to get kids in against Man U or the Ar£e . Slightly more attractive than the Villa ....and more chance of them returning . The bloke reporting in the Sunday Times commented that some of the kids may have felt shortchanged on Saturday...
  14. Fair enough if they do make the attempt to come over every now and again . But a few of our most critical and annoying know all "fans" who post on here never seem to make the effort . Europe isn't all that far away to those with a bit of brass....
  15. But balancing the books in the short term is not the whole point . The club has to be looking long term to guarantee survival - and I mean survival in the literal sense . If that means subsidising kids to an extent then it's an option worth considering even at a short term cost . I have to say I'm pessimistic either way , but doing nothing and just seeing the gates go down a couple of thousand season after season is the worst option of them all . (Apart from the Lancs UTD option that is .... )
  16. That's a bit of a generalisation . If kids' prices were dramatically reduced , adults who would obviously have to accompany them , may well be tempted to take them more often . At present I would guess that there are many who don't go at all whereas they may go as a family unit if the prices were realistic . My guess may be wrong but it's worth trying .
  17. I agree ; Hall is one of those people who end up being characatures(sp) of themselves - Peter Allis is another . BUT ...in his offering on the game last week he described Bellamy as leaving his defender stranded "....like a pillar of salt " . I've taken him off my death list for that one
  18. Yep , I'd put this game in my top 3 or 4 matches without a doubt . Tremendous game between the top two clubs at that time in the old Division 3 , and there must have been 5,000 visiting loonies from Plymouth who created a top atmosphere and caused a lot of aggro down town if I remember correctly ....
  19. The drummers got a close up for a few seconds on MOTD last time . Unfortunately I didn't have time to hide behind the sofa ......
  20. I've just been thinking about this one and the main drawback to offering kids for a quid all the time would be the effect on the next year's season ticket sales for children ; obviously they wouldn't sell many .Someone would have to do their sums and weigh it up against the long term benefits of getting kids into the ground on a regular basis . Something imaginative has to be done . I do reckon though that if they going to offer these discounted prices they may as well do it against the big clubs . It would have worked this season for sure ...
