  1. Welcome to the club, it took a while, but better late than never.
  2. You’ve been Venkys biggest supporter on here over the years, trying to deflect every issue away from Pune where possible. Parson is on record many many times saying he despises the owners, but it won’t stop him going and all credit to him. Do you still support these abhorrent owners Rev? Or have you finally had that epiphany?
  3. Many people lost their jobs when we were relegated from Premiership, many local businesses also suffered, administration doesn't mean everyone on the dole, but it will secure the future of this football club and start the healing process in my opinion.
  4. Back in those days my aspiration was to get to an FA Cup semi final at a neutral ground, I had no expectations beyond that, I didn't even want to get to the final, just a semi final at Villa Park or Hillsborough, that was it. Little did we know what was coming rigger, 20yrs+ in the big leagues, winning cups and PLAYING IN EUROPE! They can't take away our memories.
  5. He never mentioned Premiership, you did and it was a silly point the first time you mentioned it, just like its a silly point now. To want an English manager to mange the national side is a fair ask, its a popular opinion, especially amongst fans that go to games, which says a lot for me.
  6. I think thats a little unfair, the easiest option is to go for the popular candidate at that time, as we did with Capello & Sven and we all know how that worked out. The Southgate appointment certainly had some thought behind it, with Gareth coming up through the England setup as a player and manager and it almost worked. I said yesterday that I don't envy the FA this time around, Carsley would be the natural choice, but its just come a little early for him as far as I'm concerned and why would Howe leave Newcastle with all that Saudi money burning a hole in his pocket? Be interesting to see how this plays out.
  7. Fabio Capello had a better record than most of the managers being touted around today, he was a disaster. But equally, Bobby Robson and Terry Venables were seen as the 2 of the best managers in the world at the time, both also failed. I don't envy the FA here, its a hiding to nothing this appointment.
  8. That wasn't really the point being made, but if we are going for this lazy "Best of the best" I don't see where Mauricio Pochettino fits into that list. As for him not being backed by Levy, I recall him spending £100m on Ndombele and Lo Celso alone, not sure what else he spent, but we aren't talking small change and he won nothing.
  9. The vast majority of managers are 'club failures' its the nature of the job. I noticed you mentioned Mauricio Pochettino earlier, what has he done in club management? I can't recall him winning anything worth writing home about? He seems to spend big and win very little, like many of todays cheque book managers.
  10. Southgate has shown you don't need previous managerial success to be a success at international level, but it would be a disaster if someone like Lampard or Rooney got the job. Both treated England duty as players with contempt at times, not the sort of people you want around the modern day England setup for me. One thing that was clear with Southgate, he'd created a bond with those players and they'd run through brick walls for him, we need someone who can do that again.
  11. Some really warm words for Southgate tonight from across the country, pundits, players, managers, politicians, royalty and fans, all paying tribute to the man and the job he’s done in restoring pride back into the national side. I wish him nothing but the best of luck for the future.
  12. We took our largest away following in Europe to Feyenoord, maybe thats why he felt penned in. It was a segregated area of course, our seats were in the top tier, its was fenced in with perspex. the bottom was more open. All the European away trips are a little over the top on the policing front and segregation, but the most trouble I've seen was Rovers fighting Rovers in Leverkusen and some handbags with the police in Lyon. Great trips, great memories, those bastards in Pune can't take those away.
  13. I'm not a fan of picking the best club manager at the time to come into the national fold, its not worked before for England and doesn't work in general. Spain have just won the Euros with a Spanish manager most have ever heard of, Argentina won the last world cup with Scaloni, another manager most had ever heard of. What do these managers have in common? They both came through the national coaching ranks, like Southgate, food for thought maybe...
  14. The guy commands £15-£20m a year, has just left Liverpool in some part due to the pressure, can’t see that happening Herbie.
  15. Not unexpected, he looked like his race had been run, but what a ride, the fans that actually follow the national team to the tournaments will be sad to see him go I'm sure.
  16. Lets hope Southgate stays on then: WC 2018 - Semi Final Euro 2020 - Final WC 2022 - Quarters Euros 2024 - Final
  17. Most of those leagues you mention have all just been won by foreign managers.....just sayin. We've tried foreign managers before, neither could get us near a final. In Capellos case the players actually revolted mid-tournament as he didn't understand how to manage English players, it was a disaster, especially for the fans who had paid good money to travel to SA. But you do make a good point on the talent pool of English managers, like the player pool, its getting smaller and smaller due to the spending power of the Premiership clubs and that ability to sign the best players in the world, many of them are not English, which tells its own story. All that said, we need to stick to a domestic manager for me, someone who understands the country, the fans and our history.
  18. Interesting comments on Walker, arguably our best player in the tournament, saved us countless times with his pace, but I guess you're looking at his age and will he lose his legs? He'd be first on my team sheet for USA world Cup, if he maintains his current form. Kane has 36 goals domestically this season in a tough league which Bayern didn't win, the most goals of any player in Europe. He's been an easy target this campaign due to the role he played for the team, lack of support and very few chances, yet shared the golden boot! But I agree, in the current system he looked a shot player, but what a player he's been if he hangs up his boots for England.
  19. He was born here I believe, but qualified for Ireland having had a pint of Guinness once. He’s taking the same route as Southgate by being in charge of U21’s, but he doesn’t have the playing pedigree like Southgate has. Hardly inspiring is it? Keep Southgate for me if Carsley is the alternative.
  20. You should know by now to take everything said on here with a large pinch of salt chaddy. When push comes to shove, the FA and Southgate will decide the future, Gareth gets results, his tournament record is outstanding, but sadly we came up against a Spain side that reminded me of Man City at times, we just couldn't get the ball of them and no manager could have done anything different with this set of players to counter that Spain side last night. No foreign coach has ever won a world cup and only 1 has ever won the Euros, so if Gareth decides to leave its English only for me and that puts Eddie Howe in the hot seat if he'd leave Newcastle at best! Lets hope Gareth gives it another 2yrs until the next world cup.
  21. If Eustace got us to the next 2 playoff finals and we lost, would you be looking to sack him? Of course he should stay on, no other manager in the history of English football has got us to 1 Euro final, let alone 2!!
  22. History says it does matter. No foreign manager has ever won a World Cup.
  23. You’d know….. Hope you’re well pal 👍
