  1. For a very good reason, its got 100% success rate on the world stage, no foreign manager has ever won the world cup since it started in 1930, but plenty have tried. It has happened in Euros, but only once I believe, when Greece won in 2004 they had German Otto Rehhagel in charge. All that said, with the pool of top quality English managers seemingly getting less and less, it won't be long before our only options are to go for a foreign manager and that will be very sad day indeed.
  2. History shows us that national football teams with mangers from that country win the major tournaments, that isn't by accident. Whilst I want the best man for the job, which we apparently had with Capello, I want him to be English unless the pond is dry. You have to be English to understand the country, the history, the hurt and the expectation of us fans, a foreign manager would never understand that and that in part led to Capello's downfall.
  3. Many wouldn't argue with that Ian. The Spain team that won The World Cup in 2010 are probably the best team I've ever seen: Iker Casillas (c), Sergio Ramos, Gerard Piqué, Carles Puyol, Joan Capdevila, Sergio Busquets, Xabi Alonso Xavi Andrés Iniesta Pedro David Villa Jesús Navas Cesc Fàbregas Fernando Torres
  4. On this day 1970 - Carlos Alberto Goal for Brazil
  5. At the last Euros we’d just drawn with Scotland 0-0 and scraped past the Czechs 1-0 in the opening game. We need to improve, buts pots aren’t given out at this stage.
  6. 4 points from 2 games, qualification a formality, job done. You don’t have to look like the Brazil team in 1970 at this stage, but we must improve drastically to progress past the last 16, no doubt about that.
  7. Its that time again - Come on England, do the nation proud.
  8. Yes I was stood on the side terrace also Exiled. Notts Country were in the division 1 at the time, was Warnock the manger? They were relegated as we went up, just missing out on making the Premiership which came in the following season.
  9. Danny Murphy ‘What can these subs do? Bringing them on with only 3 minutes left’ Danny Murphy 2mins later ‘The subs have combined and scored what could be the winning goal’ Still a clueless **** robbing a living.
  10. Good on you, let’s hope for a successful season, one to remember for all the right reasons.
  11. Danny Murphy - ‘Great decision, foul just outside the box, no penalty’ Danny Murphy on same incident 3 seconds later ‘Great decision, booked him for simulation/diving’ Still a clueless **** robbing a living
  12. Great bit of footage here of our game away at Notts County in FA Cup 1992. The Speedie incident was classic, him leathering the ball out of the ground after being sent off. If memory serves me right, both our game and dingles at Derby were called off on the Saturday due to frost. The police had put suggested routes for fans to travel all over the local press to avoid it kicking off, I think they staggered the midweek games over 2 nights.
  13. A very very good Italian side, the best side in Europe in fact. It was disappointing to lose, especially after the start we made, but to call them mediocre is way off the mark.
  14. After we reached the final of Euros at the last attempt with this 'negative football', the first final in over 50yrs and we kept a clean sheet last night, I'm not sure my social circle is the problem Exiled 🤣 But seriously, it does go some way to explaining why some people are not happy to beat Serbia 1-0.
  15. You read some of the comments on this thread and many are highly critical of the way we played, the selection policy and Southgate himself. I've already forgotten about the performance, in tournament football its all about the results, nothing else really matters. I've not read much of the press in the lead up to Euro 2024, I have no idea if they're building everyone's hopes up to a level where a 1-0 win in the opening match is seen as some kind of failure. Or is it actually the fans themselves, thinking we've won the tournament already? I can never recall a time when so many fans expect so much, its usually, "If we can make the semi final we'd have done well" but the message from fans I speak to for Euro 2024 - "Best side by a country mile, we should win this". Its the hope that usually kills you, this time around it could be the expectation!
  16. England always warm into a tournament and tonight was no different. Plenty to work on, first win in the bag.
  17. Good effort Jude Bellingham - Lads a right player
  18. Copyright Bruce Springsteen. Can’t start a fire, can’t start a fire without a spark, Phil Fodens on fire, when he’s playing Germany off the park.
  19. 1-0 England, it’s all that matters.
  20. Brilliant by Tripper, almost on a plate for Foden.
  21. Yet he got us to a final last time we played in Euros, first time any England side had made the final in over 50yrs!
  22. Albanian fans attacking Serbian and England fans, few handbags, the gutter press couldn’t wait to show someone bleeding.
