Good to see the board backing Hughes as he would not of come cheap, even for three months. The fact we can review the situation at January is a bonus. I think he will do well, he has class but also has a very high work rate which sometimes goes unoticed.

I know its just one game but Fergsuon looked out of sorts last night. Didnt seem to have his mind on the game, looked dreadfully slow. Put one good pass of note in the second half. Knowing how good he is, we are getting no where near the best out of him. As other people have been saying it was the type of the game when we needed our captain to be more influential. -
Charlton's wide men were pressing and marking very tight against Emerton and Jansen. Would only put Jansen on the left if we are short in that area- we dont appear to be now. Jansen needs to play up front.

good move by Hughes. Can play deep and will add much needed creativity. Not a matter of ability but how quick we can get him fit.

Ferguson had a bad game- looked a bit sluggish as well. Not as bad as Flitcroft though who did put a big effort in. But his days are surely coming to an end. He is simply not upto the athletic demands to be a Premiership player. Considering he is one of our highest wage earners we need to get rid. I would rather see Douglas doing Flitcroft's role as I think he would do it better. I think credit to Charlton's midfield though who were always tight against us and constantly pressing our 4 players in midfield. It really was a physical contest for everyone of our midfield players. Also for our strikers who got fouled all night. -
Probably didnt want MGP to get his legs broken. I couldnt see him having much influence in a game where Charlton players were happy to kick lumps in any of our players as soon as they got the ball.

My thoughts: Conceded from a set piece again, getting tiring. Too many off nights- Ferguson especially. Cant really judge Jansen from that, although some will. Flitcroft put in effort but really doesnt add much- not mobile enough for his position. Good individuals up front but lack of conhesion as yet. Not too worried as I think we can only improve under the coaching staff we now have but need to start getting points or doom mongers will mount. -
Poor Douglas- I havent seen him play recently so cant accuarately comment. Always thought though he could do a messy job in midfield of being our ball winner. Well he is on a nice contract now....

I am sure Eddie will have his work cut out on the training ground. Will be interesting to see if they can stop Amo making the mistakes he has been making all his career.
-
got to remember by making 9 changes you cant expect a flowing team performance. Yeah we were poor, problem is with Short out now we have to find our best combination at the back. Just glad I dont have to do it....

Defending looked awful for all of their goals.

Was our reserve team who played well but we still lost. Hughes will know a bit more about our squad now.

[Archived] Souness Goes To Newcastle
John replied to Brownie's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Could not help but chuckle when reading these comments by a Newcastle fan on Football 365. Already two matches into his reign and people are having a pop. If Graeme Souness thinks he can achieve success at St. James' Park by letting his players play out of position he is wrong. Craig Bellamy is not a right winger. I think Souness is afraid to make some tough choices. What also concerns me is the signing of Ronny Johnsen. Is Johnson at his age so much better than Elliott? Why not giving Elliott a chance and add a defender of the reserve team to the squad to get him some experience with first-team football. As Bryan says, not our problem anymore..... -

Souness said he played Jenas on the left to make Newcastle 'harder to beat'. Where have I heard that before.... -

We all know when you fall out of favour with Souness there is no way back. That is unless your Dwight Yorke. Jansen is quoted in the papers today saying, Souness made his mind up on him a long time ago. He never spoke to Jansen explaining why he would never get a proper chance. He never felt he would be part of the first team squad again and the only people supporting him were his team-mates and fans. Now he does have a chance and confidence is his only enemy but playing games will help Jansen and thats what I think Hughes will do. -

Amo still worries me. I just can never feel comfortable with him playing. I do appreciate his efforts in helping us stay up last year but I just dont rate the guy. Isnt his contract up at end of the year, if so we should go our separate ways. His wages would be quite high as well I assume. -
[Archived] Mark Hughes - Good Choice ?

Hughes is well into appyling science and technology to aid players in terms of preparation for matches. He is very much a forward thinking man. -

Prior to joining us he played in a league based in Europe. You know what I meant... -

All this bull about Emerton. I have seen him play a lot and I agree he has been poor. There is no doubt he has talent though and I am confident he will get better as the season progresses. I really cant understand some of the things people write on here, lets get rid of him etc. Some players take a while to settle in the Premiership and Emerton is one of them. People who watch European football on a regular basis know he is a good player. I really wish people would try to think a bit more logically before they post some utter cr*p on this messageboard. -
[Archived] Mark Hughes - Good Choice ?
John replied to Ste B's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
http://skysports.planetfootball.com/list.a...tball_Home_Page Best pundit around sums us up well. Key areas- Centre Back: Agree with verdict on Amo, too many mistakes. Hughes will need to invest here as a priority unless someone comes into their own between now and January- Matteo? NEJ? Cant see it happening. A partner for Ferguson- Thommo? Douglas (too limited maybe) Also up front- If Jansen could come back it would be tremendous, if not we need more firepower. Will be interesting to see how Hughes see these areas of the team, as more often than not Souness seemed to have no strategy when it came to the transfer market. -
He is talking as if he will bring some players in January. Doubt that means free transfers or loans- so there will be a few million to spend

Hughes does play direct when Hartson is playing, similar to what Celtic do. It generally works.

From- http://www.brscn.com/nyheter.asp?action=visNyhet&id=928 What does this say exactly?? Hughes signed a contract this evening at 8:30 to take over from next Monday Waliseren signet for en time siden BRSCN er som vanlig forst ute, i hele verden, med den offisielle kunngjoringen. Mark Hughes signet for Rovers for ca en time siden.

He had Eric Harrison but he retired last month Come to think of it he probably would put Tony Parkes assistant manager? Anyway I am going to stop speculating unitl he is actually in!
