John Brown doesnt ring a bell, it was a slightly weird name from memory.
-
The way JW is talking suggests that LDRover info may be correct. For me if Curbishley is one of them snap his hand off! As for the trustee fund, the main person connected with the fund is on the board but never attends meetings unless of great importance- cant remember the name of him though!

[Archived] Souness Goes To Newcastle
John replied to Brownie's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
According to the Mirror article yesterday Souness enjoyed his new rule book which he introduced this season. I have copied and pasted some interesting things from this article. Please read all of it! http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/sporttop/tm_...-name_page.html So the Rovers squad were far from sorry to see him go when he told them yesterday he was leaving after four-and-a-half years at Ewood Park. One unnamed player said: "The worst thing was the little rule book. It was a joke. It said if ever the players had a problem someone would be there for us to talk to. But that was a ridiculous statement considering Souness wasn't on speaking terms with so many players."They even brought in a rule that we had to get special permission to go and have a round of golf. There were so many petty rules and Murray even started to fine players for parking their cars too close to the training ground building." -
Dont know if anyone mentioned this so far, but here is a link to an insight on what went on behind the scenes. Some of this may be lies but there must be some truth in it. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/sporttop/tm_...-name_page.html

Kenny Sansom said tonight we will approach Mark Hughes because he thinks he commands respect and players will listen to what he says. I tend to agree with this, he seems to have a temper when things dont go well too which you need.
-
Papers will be speculating for a couple more days yet, doubt we will get good gossip until after Thursday.
-
I was thinking about the Mark Hughes thing. He certainly would prove an attraction for players out for sheer respect and what he has done. Only question mark would be coming into club management, also didnt realise he's been Wales gaffer for 5 years!

heard it today- Tugay said he is coming in on Thursday to say his good byes and explain himself. Board are meeting on Thursday because they all cant meet until then! -
It is just a long term issue for Robson, surely he cant really go on for more than two years?? However we may need an old pro in as it looks as if we could be rooted to the bottom of the table when a new man comes in.

Souness will explain himself to our players why he left on Thursday afternoon. The board also meet on Thursday to discuss the candidates. -
It just seems that the candidates who we may go for are nothing that special at all. No one seems that appealing at all to be honest. That is unless someone who we havent discussed has applied or we manage to target someone in a job who seems a lot more desirable.

Souness did talk about relegation but most clubs apart from 5 usually say that. Steve Bruce said that at the start of this year for example. It has to be a priority to stay up first and foremost for most clubs. GS told Duff that with him we had a chance to get in the top 5 with him, but he left. Doesnt sound like ambition to me. Or to get Emerton who was highly rated when we got him, I wonder if GS had anything to do with that, I wonder if he sold him the idea that 4th from bottom would be fine for us. I really wonder if GS enjoyed losing at all. Cant you see he is ambitious, and I am pretty sure it rubs off on players he is trying to sign when we are in transfer talks. Fact is GS was realist, not like Kevin Keegan who sets him up for a fall. It nice to hear things from managers but to actually back them up is slightly different.
-
Need a manager who makes players want to come and play for him. Whether you like it or not players such as Fergsuon, Tugay, Dickov (9 clubs in for him!) and a few others would not of come unless GS was the manager. Gone are the days when Blackburn can attract a player because of wages, training ground and facilities. We need all the extra help we can get and that means having a manager people will respect a lot. He might of fallen out with a lot of them but I am sure the Souness factor and his ambitions for the club helped to get Cole etc.
-
Quite difficult for Ferguson to increase his value when he is not playing due to his injury. He is slowly coming back into stride, few more games yet.
-
We will now find out how ambitious the club is. As JW said the most important role he plays along with the directors is in appointing the manager. Tony Parkes has gone on record saying a 'big name' will be appointed. We can read into that what we like but it has to be said there has been some shocking suggestions for our new manager made on here by people who know not much about the way football works and much about our players. Fact is a lot of the players came to the club because of our ex managers burning desire not because of Blackburn. Our fantastic set up is an added bonus but it does not sway players to come here. I would like the board to really have a go and try to attract a top manager who has some experience of the Prem League. There is one thing you could never criticise GS for and that was ambition, he obviously doesnt believe the board had the same ideas as he did but he did get a lot of finance to spend so he cant complain too much. It may be a case of a rocky ship when a new manager comes in so I am making my suggestions on that. Hopefully we target (my opinion here) 1- Curbishley- If you dont try you dont get, but would be unlikely to come. 2- Strachan- Easy to get, no compensation but got an ok record of managing in the Prem. Cant really think of anyone else because I havent given it much thought but those are the best and maybe realisitc preferences of a manager in work and out of work!

[Archived] Newcastle 3-0 Blackburn Rovers
John replied to Roaming Rover's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Yeah Jan, and what a failure he has been. You dont like him as a person, fair enough but I did and that maybe clouded my judgement on him as a manager. It has been looking a bit rocky of late with some bizarre decisions but I think he has left a good squad of players behind and those players only came here because of him. -
I wonder what Barry Ferguson must be thinking. We need a manager who can get the respect of the players as they were all mostly bought by Souness. The managers available and who we could get does not inspire me. However Strachan is probably pick of the bunch.

rover6- do you have a clue about what our club is about?? Take it from me when we sign a player it is about can they do a job when then come in not what cash can we get in the future. We are not bothered about that at all. Your comments seem logical but make me really wonder some time. I would go as far to say I am starting to think you are a real pr**k. -

Been speaking to people who know more about Bothroyd than myself. He is tall, quick and skillful. Been playing well in a poor team and there was interest in him this summer from a few clubs. Its only a loan deal and as Yorke is going he gives us a good option with his pace.
-
Its hard to judge players in reserve matches.
-
I take back my earlier comments. Celtic and Brum have both agreed £300,000 deals for Yorke!!
-
Souness says he is on holiday????
-
Birmingham agreed fee with us for Yorke
-
Souness on Sky Best for Dwight and the club- fee agreed for Dwight along with Birmingham matching the fee- Yorke favours Birmingham Souey thinks. Good young striker Bothroyd, had our eye on him for a while.
