  1. I only got ten minutes warning of going on air. The main thrust was to see if we would boycott the match. The issues weren't raised - that's not headline stuff is it? Once I'd made it clear we are happy to be going but would prefer a neutral ground they switched to the rumour that Arsenal and Rovers only want 45000 tickets. I had to say I only knew that from the radio. Then got asked how many we would take. After saying 25000 I got stick about that and the size of our crowd so i had to do the town club, % of population bit. Questioned how many people are there in London, Manchester, Newcastle. I think the guy is an Arsenal fan - was it Tom Watt from eastenders? So we moved on! What they wanted was "Yes we are going to boycott the game" and I can't give them that as it isn't true. Suggested a crowd of 45000 would tell the FA the semis should be played at a neutral ground etc. Hope I did OK for the club.
  2. More like Surrey Rover!!
  3. brfcs.com just did Talksport and we have tried to give a consensus view: 1. Happy to go to Cardiff but the general feeling is the semis should be at league grounds but that it won't happen this year. 2. We won't be boycotting the game - except Scotty 3. We will be taking 25000 - I hope - and this is a good turnout from a town with a population of 140,000.
  4. Rovers are currently reporting Savage is likely to miss out and Dickov is subject to a late check.
  5. Am I the only person who enjoyed Sunday? It wasn't great football but it can only have been what we all expected.
  6. The article from This is London is full of contradictions: There is no way Arsenal and Rovers fans would be clear of the city before the Utds arrive. Absolute rubbish and the potential for more chaos.
  7. The heart says I do, and I could give a whole list of indicators, every where I look there are those silly little superstitions that football fans grab at. The head says to beat 2 out of 3 in Arsenal, Man Utd and Newcastle would be an astonishing and fabulous achievement for our club.
  8. Thanks for that top tip, Shame you couldnt have posted that before the last trip to cardiff coz getting out of cardiff was a total shambles. To be honest I only thought of it when I was in Cardiff and saw the traffic chaos. My folks lived in Cardiff for about ten years and I used to know the city quite well. After the Worthy cup and seeing the traffic chaos I took a chance on my local knowledge. We did this (why am I telling you all?? ) got home by 10.00pm latest. From the car parks head towards the city centre (assummes you are in official car parks to roughly the west of the stadium). Through the city following local signs for Roath and major signs for Newport (A4161). Don't get on the A48 trunk road but keep heading towards St.Mellons on the B4487 and then head to Castleton Join the old A48 towards Newport which runs parallel to the M4 Go straight through Newport and at Junction 24 of the M4 go straight over on to the A449 which will take you up to the M50 and home. Using this route gives you options to get on the M4 at any junction from 28 to 24. There is another alternative that follows the coast and eventually swings back into Newport but I haven't been on that road in 20 years. There other routes to avoid even this but I can only drive them by instinct rather than give directions. So I'm saying nothing.
  9. OK I'll leave you to reach your own conclusions on this one, don't shoot the messenger. An IMUSA representative, interviewed on Five Live this morning re a boycot unless the Newcastle - Man Utd game was moved to Elland Road, stated the following: "This morning we (IMUSA) have information the Arsenal-Rovers match could be moved from Cardiff as the total ticket allocation requested by the two clubs was 45,000." His inference being why play the match in front of a half empty stadium? The same person also suggested he had information Utd could be looking at a 5.15pm Sunday KO.
  10. It's pretty difficult to weigh up all the permutations on these games for KO times. The one thing I'm sure of is Cardiff can look forward to a weekend of total chaos as up to an extra 140,000 people try to find food, drink, parking, accomodation etc. all in the space of about 36 hours. Genius bit of organisation, perfectly designed to ensure fan safeyt and comfort. For those who drive down - a tip on getting home. Avoid the M4 and use the parallel roads to Newport. Here you can join the M4/M50 without a problem. Did it last year and got home in around 3.5 hours, no jams at all.
  11. Mark Bowen on the s/f draw: "We've never felt so wanted as we have in the last 24 hours," he said. "Everybody wanted us, but we're going to show everybody that if Arsenal take us lightly then we're well prepared and they'll come a cropper. "We're delighted with the draw and delighted to be in the semi-final with three of the biggest clubs in Europe." Like it...
  12. Don't remember anything about two
  13. Done that - nearly fell off my chair
  14. I'm of much the same view as Stu and will be surprised if we get over 20,000. I think the best we can hope for is 20,000 with an option on a further 5 - 10,000. The FA can be pretty certain of selling 40,000 to Newcastle and Utd and to a lesser extent Arsenal. From a ticket allocation view our best bet is Arsenal in the semis as they have the next samllest crowd out of the four clubs. Might have helped if the toiwn had turned out in force on Sunday - but that's another thread.
  15. Craig Levein interview in The Guardian Saturday Now Craig who do you think should take responsibility for your defeat today? Did you actually plan to win this game or did you just want to "bring them down to our level" ?
  16. John chances are every Rovers fan who wants to go will get at least one ticket. We won't need more than 30,000 if we take everyone who swears they bleed blue and white. Draw Numbers 1 Newcastle United 2 Manchester United 3 Arsenal 4 Blackburn Rovers It's being drawn by Trevor Brooking
  17. I can't find anything to back this up officially but on 606 it was stated both games would kick-off at 5.15pm. Now 5.15pm for the Saturday match makes sense but I'm less sure about the Sunday one being at that time.
  18. Leicester support was no better than ours.
  19. Shame and happening to a big club like them. Gutted for the lad.
  20. Just been checking the Scottish cup semis.....I was surprised to see Rangers aren't playing. Did they get knocked out Bazza or don't you bother with that one?
  21. April 16/17th
  22. Blackburn Rovers will take their deserved place in tomorrow's draw for the Football Association Cup Semi-Final draw. For the first time in 45 years the Rovers will feature in an FA Cup semi-final to be played at the Millenium Stadium, Cardiff on the weekend of April 16/17th. Today's 1 - 0 victory over Championship side Leicester came courtesy of a Paul Dickov penalty after Morten Gamst Pedersen had been brought down in the box. After missing his last spot kick against Chelsea, Dickov struck the ball hard and dead centre to leave Ian Walker in the Leicester goal diving hopefully to his left. The Blackburn End erupted. The club, the town, the fans needed this result. Cheers lads!! Join the post match discussion HERE
  23. Going to have to take issue with that. Sickening way to lose? Leicester deserved nothing, zilch, nil from this game. The Leicester defender goes to ground to play the ball in the box and brings down MGP, he gets up tries to step/jump over the defender who brings him down again. This was a nailed on, bang to rights penalty, it's in the rules so they lost. Leicester showed the attacking ambition of a road-kill. They deserved to lose and it would have been a travesty if this had been a draw. Not a great performance I agree but then the opposition chose to defend with 11 men and play the entire game in their half. This is how you lose games of football. Leicester did not create a single chance, it was 30 minutes before Friedel touched the ball.......and we have to feel sorry for them? Rovers haven't put in great performances in the cup? I'd argue with that. Against Burnley (twice), Leicester and to a lesser extent Colchester, we were asked to play against teams with only one intention - stop us scoring and hope they can nick one. In each game Rovers did not make mistakes, concentrated hard, took the game to the opposition for 90 minutes and WON. Burnley created four chances in two games, Leicester none at all today - they where there to be beaten. What else are the team supposed to do? Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd etc all struggle to beat teams who are determined not to lose. Look at the game against Chelsea at Ewood, we made them look very, very average as we tried to avoid losing first and foremost. I'm delighted with the whole team, I feel they are playing for the club and the fans. It's not the greatest football, but it is WINNING football. Given our current squad I'll settle for that. Would we rather have four wins and a draw out of five or the gutless stuff Souness gave us? You choice, I know who I want to support.
  24. Do you want to re-phrase that?
  25. Tough Talk as Hughes defends Rovers' Style Sounds like this could be an entertaining day! Dickov's ready for it! Rob Kelly interview Dickov again
